  • In this fascinating fireside chat, Dieter Shirley, the lead architect of Flow Foundation and CTO of Dapper Labs, and Juan Benet, founder and CEO of Protocol Labs, discuss the latest advancements in blockchain computation and scaling, focusing on Filecoin's FVM and Flow's approach to computation. Learn about the importance of aligning blockchain architecture with physical principles, the concept of hypervisors and VMs, and the future of decentralized computing. Learn how these technologies can revolutionize various industries, from gaming to data management, and gain insights into the potential of web3.
Created by Protocol Labs and co-curated by Foresight Institute, LabWeek Field Building gathered leading individuals and teams from frontier science to drive progress. The weeklong conference took place at Edge Esmeralda, a pop-up event city in Healdsburg, CA, from June 10-16, 2024. For more info on LabWeek Field Building, go to www.labweek.io/24-fb.

I've found the idea of "localized subnets" indispensable when building distributed consumer-facing apps, but with partitions localized to a set of operator-owned nodes via ipns/Kubo instead of a region via a blockchain/FVM. Converging to a snapshot for others to resolve on-demand by observing your own (few) node-independent event streams is a lot easier to scale than sharing a mutable state across untrusted nodes. Interplanetary-friendly, no blockchain 🚀
