    The sm7b sounds too popular for me)) ...
    That's why my choice here is SE electronics.
    Thanks for your great work!

    Thanks for this. I’ve used both recently and my preference seems to change based on the day of the week. Sm7b does me so many favors smoothing out my harshness, Dynacaster trails only slightly in the smoothness but definitely helps the audio feel more open and maybe not as nasal on my voice. There’s still some intangible to using the Shure but damn does SE make it a tough choice.

      yeah i definitely noticed a slight nasal vibe on at least one occasion when i moved to the SM7B, i think there must be more of a boost at about 4-5k on the SM7B.

      @@thedarksidemic interesting. Which mic or pair of mics that you've used to date seems to sound the least nasal . That's a sound signature my voice seems to emphasize. Not to happy with it.

      @@sdaservicetv I feel you! I have bad sinuses at the best of times. The trouble is a lot of modern mics are quite mid forward, the presence boost starts early. On me when the 4-5k region is boosted it gets a bit nasal. But it’s often trial and error, You could look at a flat response mic or one with a late prescence boost - 416 is quite good for that. Maybe a u47 style would work...

    What do you think about mounting the sE v7 in a broadcast mount like you've done in the past with the XM8500? Not sure if its worth a go. I have a pretty deep and nasally voice, and kind of sound like I am whispering at times. Just want to move to a dynamic mic, trying to figure out the best route to go.

    • @thedarksidemic
      @thedarksidemic Před rokem +1

      Yeah, i guess it might be worth it. I kinda feel the V7 is quite a nice mic as it is, a nice body, whereas the XM8500 on its own isn't going to turn heads :D Unfortunately SE don't sell replacement capsules separately (i emailed asking about this) which would be the ideal option for DIY'ers. I find the V7 quite neutral and balanced and might be a nice choice for taming the nasal tones.

    I think Shure SM58 beta is a great alternative for podcasts and streaming and it's much cheaper than sE DynaCaster. I always had great results with it. When people say that DynaCaster is no brainer it is just annoying........

    Thanks, I can't hear much of a difference. Are you processing the audio in any way? I can hear a slight flutter (for want of a better word) on your voice - at 1:30, for example, but on and off all the way through - or maybe it's just me? Not trying to be critical because I enjoy your reviews, I'm just interested.

    • @thedarksidemic

      Hi! No processing just 'match loudness' on the non Podtrak P4 parts. Might be YT compression - listening just now, i can hear a few flutters aswell - the soundcloud verison will be better. But you're right, on me, there is little difference. SM7B feels slightly fuller to me at times, but that could be tiny variations in proximity. if im honest, the choice comes down to whether you care about the reputation or hype around the SM7B. I'd still pick the M201TG over both of them :D

      @@thedarksidemic If you can hear it too, at I least I'm not going mad; perhaps it is YT. I bought an SE V7X after listening to your 'Sound the Same' with the M201TG - I couldn't justify the Beyer, but the V7X is a great mic, so many thanks.

    I have both and I'm so surprised about the DynaCaster performance. More open and clear for my voice. SM7 for me gives muffled voice...

    • @thedarksidemic
      @thedarksidemic Před rokem +2

      Yep I agree, the SM7B is slightly muddier on my voice than I’d want. Just a tad, which makes the M201TG my preference, for me at least. The Dynacaster is a nice option, the high end extension even on the flat settings just gives it a bit more articulation which still feeling soft. I think the presence boost on the SM7B ruins it, and prefer the flat setting

      yep all good, man, It's just been a mad summer, lots of projects. You're right, it's been way too long. At the same time, theres not been much that has caught my eye, for what i'm involved with, anyway. I've been doing a lot of travel projects and that has kinda introduced a dilemma between what id like to use and what is practical. Most recent thing i bought was the Rode AI-micro, mainly because its the only thing on the market that offer separate gain control for 2 x 3.5mm sources (lavs, mostly,) - it works fairly well but kinda underwhelming as a preamp. But you can use it with a laptop / Rode Connect and alongside a Wireless Go 2 for 4 channel 3.5mm recording. Useful for travel with lavs.

    DynaCaster is good, but SM7B is a legend, if you can buy SM7B you should, DynaCaster is a good compact cheaper alternative, but nothing is better than SM7B even much more expansive mics are not as good as SM7B in many settings. Good try SE but no.
