In South Africa, at a local crocodile park called Croc World, they had an AFE in an enclosure, and I would mimic the cry by cupping my hands together and whistling between my thumbs. The guy working there egged me on because the Eagle was responding, then he told me to stop because of the sign.
Nice, Greg! My Grandpa used to throw fishbits up for one of these to catch while fishing for 'Grunter' in his little fibreglass boat in the estuary at Port St. Johns. I believe they filmed 'Shout at The Devil' there, just after I visited.
Hey Greg, where are you from? You should risk the journey to Borakalalo Game Reserve (Klipvoor Dam) in South Africa. The Fish Eagles are plentiful in summer. But so are the Crocs and the Hippos... so be on alert! Also, it's hard to miss the Lilac-breasted Rollers. I know they're incredibly common, but they're still such beautiful birds to photograph.
