theory: Zander always listened to his parents arguing when he was younger, one day, he overheard them talking and saw him dad leaving. That was the last he saw of his father. On from his childhood, his personality became colder and had trust issues(?) the music club was his escape from the world, same as it was to Hailey. It made him feel safe, Zander had found a good family that he was happy with. (That’s why he was protective and didn’t want Jake to ruin the music club.)
Another part to the theory, Luke was Zander's first real friend, so Zander alway turn to Luke, soon he started developing feelings for Luke, but didn't want to ruin his friendship with Luke, since Luke was the only thing he had at the time.
Adding on to that theory, Zander pushed away Luke because he didn't want to be like his mother and father, whether he was the one leaving Luke or Luke would be the one leaving him. He is scared and wants to protect the family that he has formed in the group, and doesn't want Jake or his feelings for Luke to ruin anything.

Another part to the theory, Luke was Zander's first real friend, so Zander alway turn to Luke, soon he started developing feelings for Luke, but didn't want to ruin his friendship with Luke, since Luke was the only thing he had at the time.
Adding on to that theory, Zander pushed away Luke because he didn't want to be like his mother and father, whether he was the one leaving Luke or Luke would be the one leaving him.
He is scared and wants to protect the family that he has formed in the group, and doesn't want Jake or his feelings for Luke to ruin anything.
