Sabaton did a vlog of the first leg of their The Great Tour. They give all the props to their stage crew. They get some face time in front of the camera. They show FOH, BOH, catering, and everything in between. With everything temporarily shut down, it seems to be the next best thing to being there.

That's awesome. Most bands I've worked for will always let them know they're appreciated, but few go out of the way to say it publicly or put them on camera. I'm not saying it's necessary or expected, but shows they REALLY care when they go out of the way to do that.

    Two things:
Alestorm is absolutely a band that throws a party. For some odd reason they came to Bergen last year and played in a rather small club called "Hulen" (The cave) with a max capacity of 320 people. The stage was rather cramped and it was in the middle of the week, but Alestorm got the energy of everybody involved right up to the rafters. Air condition tubes were kicked and the atmosphere was wild. One of the better concerts I have been part of, even though I was sober due to having to drive home and go to work the day after.
Second part - I haven't been to many larger concerts, but the points Tank make about the crew and the roadies were very interesting. I will be sure to send them a friendly thought next time I attend a concert...

I have seen Alestorm and I had the chance to toss the duck. But its true there are so much people involved in a live show its plain amazing. Some bands hide or mask them. E.g. Sabaton dresses them up as soldiers and radioman, powerwolf dresses the up as monks so if they have to come out they seem as part of the show. "If a roadie is good you neither see nor notice him/her."

The day the concert was on was national Talk Like a Pirate day so there was a bunch of people dressed as pirates and the lead singer between songs alluded to this fact by saying in his word "Do you all know what day it is? Some shit about pirates or something. But more importantly its BUTTERSCOTCH PUDDING DAY!!!" then proceeds to pull out 2 pudding cups of butterscotch pudding and eats them with a fan in the front row while the band played What do you do with a drunken sailor in the backround.

Agree, it was good sound, I have to admit I wasn't listening for it specifically but I usually are pretty good at noticing bad things and definitely didn't notice any problems (unlike some other venues I won't mention right now). One of my theories why Babymetal choose this venue was because Judas Priest had started one of their famous tours from this venue (long time ago).

about the sound engineering, the mix is done by lasse lammert . who also mixes their studio albums. Ive read him mentioning that he likes to capture the live vibe most of all, so on the dvd or album you hear their mistakes and fuck ups.. wonderfully produced all in all.

That whole concert is a blast, i love everything about it. Also when you discover a band like this, it's also fun to realise that this is a genre: pirate metal. There are other bands like this too. We have many party metal bands in europe in a couple different genres. You could check out german medieval metal like Feuerschwanz - Das elfte Gebot or In Extremo - Herr Mannelig (live) or Saltatio Mortis - Rattenfänger (live wacken - sung complely while crowdsurfing).

I learned to respect the crew when I started putting on dinky little local shows with my own band in a venue we had to set up and run all our own sound in when I was a teenager. It was tiny, the largest show we ever put on might have had 100 people, and it was still a *shitload* of effort to keep things working smoothly. I don't even wanna think about how much work it would take to put on a production for an audience of thousands!

When I saw Alestorm a few years back at Wacken while playing on the Party Stage for the last song they sent one member (think it was the keyboardist) out on a inflatable boat and the singer screamed "Send him to the bar!" Opposite the stage was the Captain Morgan bar.
Also seen them on a cruise where due to a fire on a plane they missed the boat in Stockholm so they boarded in Finland and played on the way home instead of the way over, although the drummer and guitarist didn't make the boat so the bass player got to play the guitar for the show. They did rig the drums though but no one saw behind them.
They have always been a blast to see live when I've seen them and the audience partitipation is always high.

      @rubiconx1895 Před 2 lety

The first time I saw them was back in 2012, opening for Dragonforce. First I'd ever heard of them and they just were just incredible. At the end of the last song the singer threw himself into the crowd and guitarist told them to "take him to the bar!" so he crowdsurfed the entire way there
I also remember me and my dad meeting them at the bar afterwards, and when my dad said he was going to get their albums the singer told him to "just pirate them instead" 😂
All three times I've seen them have just been an absolute blast from beginning to end though, never a dull moment!

Love this band. Local boys :p . Original members came from Perth / Dundee, practised at the same studio (stage 2k) a band I was in at the time used, we played with them once or twice, they have always been loads of fun, right from the get go :) regularly found touring with battlemetal bands - Amon Amarth and Tyr spring to mind. Check out some of their studio recordings, they are usually entertaining in their own right :) (I love keelhauled and Drink)

The singer is a funny guy. Theres a video where he sits at his dinnertable, calls napalm records and asks them to sign his plate of beans. Now exists a 5--song EP called Chrisopher Bowes and his plate of beans. Alestorm also recorded their whole album No grave but the see for dogs as bonus tracks. It's just what it sounds like, lyrics are replaced by dogbarks. Woof WOOF! Woof! There is also a song around called BEER BEER BEER with Korpilklaani featuring Chrisopher Bowes.
I saw someone mention Gloryhammer. Thats a really cool band. The lore is amazing. If you want more funny metal bands theres Nanowar of Steel, an italian metalbad. Alot of their song are in italian but there is also english ones. Valhallelujah and Norwegian Reggaeton for example. Also need to mention Wind Rose who recorded Diggy Diggy hole. Rock on!
