When you expect a dad joke but end up feeling the feels 😭

84 and walking the town with full independence is a major landmark of health.
I work at a retirement facility and some of the things these people do is crazy. There's one resident that I didn't even realize was a resident, I thought he was an employee! He not only was always in the fitness center working out, but he was constantly walking around in the building or outside, I'd see him walking in town, he worked as a dish washer in a nearby restaurant. He looks like he's in his late 50s, MAYBE early 60s. Turns out. He's 80!

My dad always said "my body is getting old, but in my mind, I'm still 25." He passed January 30, 2020. He developed Lewy Body dementia and it ravaged him quickly. He was very intelligent, so we noticed things quickly were going wrong. He hated what was happening to him. He was the smartest and strongest man I have ever known, and that disease stole who he was from him. When he passed, he had aged 30 years. He deserved to grow to be an old man. He loved life, and his passing left an enormous hole in our family that has still not been filled. I miss him so much.

Take care of yourself and life will reward. My dad is in his 60s and still works his excavating job shoveling with my brother and I, hammering cement, and picking up logs and brick. Usually he’s in the excavator but when he hops down to help with the hand work you’d think him more fit than most 20-30 yr olds. It’s a shame people think after 30 or so they just become unable to do physical activity and can’t stay fit for much longer. Truth is, human bodies are very adaptable even in older age.
As a 26 year old man, I’ll make sure to be extra thankful for my youth and to do my best not to squander it.
This is absolutely brilliant piece of art that should be preserved for the generations to come. It has layers of meaning for both those who are just beginning to age but have an aging loved one, and a different impact for those of us who are aging and can't align our self-image with that older person in the mirror. Definitely pulls out all the basic emotions. Thank you for creating this.
One of the best shots I've seen ... Truly a real masterpiece with all the hidden details. Loved it.

My dad died a year ago at age 92. He said he still felt like 18. He never looked old, he was very fit and could still run and do chin-ups in his 80s. I can't say he was a great dad, he was mean and cruel, even so, I still miss him.
@crustydownunder I understand that. My mom was a terror. She died when I was 21 and I still grieved her terribly.
My dad was by no means fit towards the end of his life, his health failed over his last decade of life. It frustrated him greatly especially as it became harder for him to walk without pain. He passed so peacefully in his sleep. Just went to take a nap one day and didn't wake up. May we all be so blessed to go that way. 🙏
This is so true. How we see ourselves when we get old is entirely different to how we actually are.
Very true, but physical pain is the way nature tells you are not more that young.

This is literally how I feel. At 28 I haven't aged mentally or physically much in the past decade. I feel very old, but 18 feels like yesterday. Even with all the experiences I remember throughout. every second only last once
My dad is turning 94 years old. He often says in his head he's still a young man. Life goes by so quickly and you want more time. But you do your best with the time you're given. This made me cry.
You must be in your 70's
@@lancevanceGTAWhether 60s or 70s or whatever... and so what?
@@ceterisparibus8966 shut up
I was filled with emotions while watching this. This truly shows how time passes fast and how you need to cherish it before it's too late.
This is exactly how it is. You look up one day, and you are a senior. I'm only 63, but when did all this happen? Its subtle changes.
I like the attention to detail on this clip. The reflection on the glass shows true image while his image shows a younger version. Truly beautiful!
Also the older hand when he picks up the coin
Also at 35 seconds it shows his old self
This is how it feels. I don't feel older, but I am starting to look it. Youth and beauty is fleeting.
Sometimes "Getting Old Sucks (But Everybody's Doing It)" by Bowling For Soup helps me feel a little better about it..
30 years old is a lifetime away for a teenager. 60 is a lifetime away for a 30-year-old. 80 is just a child’s life when you’re 60.
Your body if just a machine you “the brain” operates. The average brain takes many years before it starts to deteriorate whereas the body begins deteriorating much sooner. That’s why you don’t usually feel as old as you look. Until one day it all catches up
Beauty is only for the youth?

This brought tears to my eyes. I was asked about using my senior discount last week... I told them that was for old people!
This is very touching and true. I’m 60 and I am well aware of my physical appearance But in my mind, im still young. I tell my students that I haven’t decided what I want to be when I grow up. Thanks.
My dad got cancer past year, he recovered and looks so much the same as this man, it really made me tear up he is still with us. Thank you for your video ❤
Your dad is a hero ❤️ wishing you both a happy long life
Act fast. Tell them to stop eating sugar and carbs. They're in drinks and food. Sugar feeds cancer cells. They love it. End cancer naturally by eating healthy.
All of worlds love goes to you
Wish both of you the best 🎉
my dad also got cancer unfortunately he didn't make it he passed away last week I miss him so much 😢
Too real. People at work in their 20s started calling me sir for no reason. When I see pictures of myself, I think, "Who is that old man?" Touching sketch. Thanks.
bro they was calling me "sir" when i was 20. even when i was 22, after the military, they continue to call me sir to this day. 24 y/o. being called "sir" is just an aura of mutual respect that collects around you.
by "they" i mean people i work with and work for.

Jesus saves! Repent and turn away from your sins today.
Why are you making me cry on a Sunday morning?😢 Good stuff, man.
The reflection in the window of the shop was a cool touch!
I don't see anyone mentioned this but the reflection when he opened the restaurant door shows his "real self". Attention to detail is so nice. Great video!
Also in the beginning
The picture on the phone did the same thing
I thought I was crazy
The whole video the hands, the windows and the phone 🤦
Good observation!
That just made this grown-ass man cry. I'm only 54, but I've never seen anything that has shown the reality of the experience as this does. When I was a young man growing up I saw older people (parents, grand-parents, etc...) as "old" and "different" then I saw myself. Like, as a person aged they changed. That their mind aged the same way the body doea and was as different from when they were young as their outside appearance was. So much so that, like most of us do, I spoke to them differently, like we do a child, to insure they understood what I was saying. What I could never have understood, however, is that they found it as offensive as I would have if someone spoke ro me that way making me feel they thought I was stupid or helpless. I now know that your sense of self doesn't age. You are the same person you have always been in your head only you're trapped in a body that ages and falls apart around you. I dont know what it is with the number, but I've heard others say, and I feel the same way, "In my head I'm 28. That has stayed the same, but my body didn't get the memo". It truely is difficult to accept the reality of what's on the outside isn't the same as the mind being carried around inside of it. Sometimes its shocking when you catch a glimpse in a mirror or see a picture of yourself and are hit with this reality. I could live to be 100 but the "me" that lives and thinks and experiences the world around me will always be this 28 year old Me I've always known no matter how anyone sees me from the outside

Beautiful thinking man
im gonna save this post, because ive been suspecting that it works like this more and more. im 22 right now, and it definitley feels like mindwise im not done maturing yet, but ive been wondering whether that just keeps going forever.
and im really sorry, that sucks. but thank you for talking about it, its important that we know stuff like this so we can at least know what to expect and maybe prepare.
Im 34 now, and although I do think that your mind ages as well, I still have to acknowledge that my inner spirirt feels rather like 26. Jumping forward into the future I guess Ill feel like 34 first when im in my 60s…
Gotta agree it annoys me to no end hearing my girlfriend talk about oh they're such a sweet old person as if they're a child or something like damn have some respect that's a whole ass person goals aspirations and achievements in life and just because they've become old doesn't mean now all of a sudden they're reduced to just old person but again I find a lot of people don't tend to think past their immediate interaction with people they meet or comprehend they have a whole existence outside of that moment
That made me cry. Keep trucking young man.
Two Days from now will be 5 years since my Grandpa was last alive on this earth. I'm saddened by it because that day was a very happy day for me up until I learned of his passing later that night. This video hit me in the feels, and I am thankful for the time I had with him. He was a good man, a great father to my dad, and a Grandfather anyone would be proud of. Thank you for making me happy cry tonight
I love the way they show old hands when he's picking up the coin or the reflection in the shop window ...
Aging is inevitable but mind can perceive information differently.
Thanks for this lovely video
😮 I hadn't noticed it until I read your comment
It amazed me. The director's work is brilliant!❤❤❤😢
Oh yeah, now that i noticed, while she took the picture, it's the old guy on the phone. Also while sipping the drink. Good observation buddy!
Also did not notice. Thanks
very briefly you can see him when walking to the crossroad before the tree covers him too
The first watch makes you feel tight in your chest. The second watch makes you feel like everything has become black and white. The third watch makes you feel like your heart wants to squeeze itself.
Sounds like you stressin. I'd say take some deep breaths
Lmao how many times you watch this shit? 😂😂
Perfect edging video

Sir, I think you're having a heart attack
Awww, that was beautiful. Wow! Great job bringing a thought to short film. Please do one about grandma if you haven’t already ❤️✌️
This is so true. Its not until you see yourself in the mirror you realise your old. In your mind your still young.
This is such a beautiful and dignifying way to represent aging.
He couldn't remember his age. That's rough
I turn 42 this year. I miss my youth and all the energy I used to have.
I know how you feel! I'm hitting 50 this year, and although my brain still feels the same as it did 30 years ago, my body not so much 😕
So do i
100% I'm 41 turning 42 next month. I went outside to do a snow angel this winter and I was gonna just fall back into about 4 inches of snow like I did as a kid and right before I did it I decided I should probly squat down and fall from a lower height just incase! When I squated and teetered back, I fell in the snow and my left shoulder dislocated and the wind was knocked out of me and my keys fell out of my pocket into the snow. I went to do my little snow angel manuver and my right arm covered my keys with snow but my left arm had something wrong with it and I was like damn, this ain't happening. I got up and that was when the pain from my dislocated arm hit. Pain was 10/10 while I caught my breath and walked on in pain, catching my breath without my keys! I got to the end of the block, turned around and went home only to not be able to get in! I had to backtrack and look for the keys 3 different times before I decided they had to be in the snow somewhere and I kicked it around only to find I did my snow angel in a pile of dog poo! I did find the keys on the 3rd trip but my god, now I tell everyone DO NOT DO SNOW ANGELS PAST 40! VERY DANGEROUS!
My advice from age 72 is to start focusing on the energy you do have and stop looking at what you lost. It really helps with happiness and contentment levels.
@@nycyo2626 Damn, now that's a run of bad luck, at least we still have the good old days of knowing how to have fun. I went tubing awhile back and flew down the hill so fast I couldn't brake and ran into their end stopper so hard I damn near tore it out of the ground. The worker was super worried I was hurt until he saw me laughing my ass off. I was upside down in the tube 😆
i think nearing 30 is what made me realize i needed to really pursue life before its to late
This guy has impeccable flow.
This might be the best short piece of story telling and cinematography I have ever scene.
