    This is my favourite song of all time. For me, it's the drumming that makes this song, and this drummer is good. I like the double bass drumming he brought into it. My only slight criticism would be that he starts off fairly heavy handed and so doesn't leave himself with much contrast as the song develops.

      Hello from the.u.k.
      I’m 65 now,seen a lot of bands in my time, followed the crim since I was 14.
      Loved the early stuff with sinfield lyrics, and with wetton and Palmer James,
      moving the band forward.
      I agree 100% with your comment, I’ve had this argument many a time
      With old proggers in the pub.
      But in my opinion I’m with you, it the best track of all time!
      Musicianship, lyrics, on another level,and the age of the band when it was first released.
      Could not get into them after RED, and believe me I tried.
      Take care.

    Love how powerful this version is. I love the (for the lack of a better word) fragility of the original, this version though, adds a whole new dimension. John Mitchell manages to add his own unique playing style without disrespecting Fripp. Love it. Loved the drummer, too. And Wetton was an unquestionable master anyway. R.I.P.

    Hate to be that guy, but here's my ramble:
    What stood out so much to me about the original recording -- and the King Crimson live versions -- is the growth from beginning to end. It's slow and quiet in the beginning, gradually growing bit by bit. The fast and intense end section has to be earned first. A version of the song that charges right out of the gate misses the magic in suddenly finding yourself somewhere completely different, new tempo and feel but the same enchanting melody as you haven't heard it before. It just feels like it sells itself short.

    • @MikeBoni
      @MikeBoni Před 2 lety +5

      I agree, but it’s still nice to hear a different interpretation of this classic song. Wouldn’t be much fun if they simply replicated the version on Red. For my money, the best live version I’ve heard is KC,s last song on its last show in Japan, a month or so ago. It’s perfect in every way. Mel Collins is next level.

    • @someoneno-one7672
      @someoneno-one7672 Před 2 lety

      @@MikeBoni I can’t make a choice between the live by King Crimson (especially the “double quartet” rendition but they all are great), and the Wetton-Jobson performance that you can find on CZcams. The latter one requires the best speakers or headphones, otherwise bass comes overloaded but it tells you of depression more than anything else possibly could.

    • @monterinaldi
      @monterinaldi Před 2 lety +1

      I agree. In addition, the rhythm section plays a fundamental part in this piece. This drummer doesn't play the song as it should, and therefore doesn't seem up to the task: the instrument is too present when it should be light, and then remains empty (with that horrible double bass drum) in the final part.

    Se me cayeron un par de lagrimones. Grandes bajistas nos ha regalado el Rock Progresivo, Chris Squire, Greg Lake, todos con voces supremas, pero sigo eligiendo a Wetton como el mas grande de todos. SE TE EXTRAÑA JOHN...
