  • Very smart and clever MV that fits perfectly with Queencard. Very talented bunch! I am impressed. Especially knowing that they came up with the whole thing. I should have watched this one first but, I am glad that I went into this one knowing some information. Very smart and talented ladies with great values.

    The I Burn album is their best album. The producer line each has 2 songs each.

    Depending on what sort of time frames you prefer to work with... there is a fan made documentary (it's very professionally made) called "The rise of (G)I-dle" which covers the groups career from the beginning until 2021and introduces each member including their lives before becoming "idols". It makes for a good reaction and provides answers to many questions you may have as well as questions you haven't even asked yet. It is 90 minutes long, just so that you know in advance.

    React to "Nxde". You will be more impressed by their message.
    And "Oh My God", will blow your mind.
    They really break the Kpop stereotype 🫰🏻

    Very nice. I'm glad you stepped back and watched this video also. I think that "Queencard" has become more viral than expected and many people have been experiencing the group for the first time because of this. Their songs "Nxde", "Tomboy", and "Oh my god" touch on some social themes also and are very good. Before 2021, their themes where mostly about love, loss, and growth. Among their most popular was "Lion" (they sang a portion in the "killing voice" episode that you reacted to). "Lion" became known as their female empowerment anthem and has a rich story behind it also.

    I am around the same age as you. It can feel a little strange to look toward the younger generation for inspiration and/or understanding about life, but Soyeon seems to have good understanding of the human condition even from a young age. (G)I-dle title tracks are varied and designed to attract new listeners but many of the b-sides (non-featured songs) on the albums tend to touch on more personal subjects. The albums "I am", and "I made" were a bit of their 'before they were famous' era, with "I trust" and "I burn" they are hitting their stride, then "I never die", "I love", and "I feel" come after the loss of member Soojin. Starting with "I never die" they become unconcerned with the sensibilities of the conservative Korean general public and begin producing the "edgier" music that you have heard so far. Prior to "I never die" there had been occasions where the Korean general public became angry with them and they were forced to apologize or step back a bit. The girls took off those restraints after the cancellation of Soojin and have been pushing their boundaries ever since. "The rise of (G)I-dle" documentary includes the histories of those times in the story. The "documentary" was completed just before the Soojin situation happens.

    Along with the feeling of "being out of place", this song touches on the theme of looking to others in order to gauge your own worth. Instagram, for example, tends to present people only during their best moments. This can lead someone to thinking that everyone elses life is wonderful and gives unrealistic expectations of how our own life should be. Each of the girls in this video see the others as living a better life than themselves and the result is that they are all unhappy.

    These girls are very funny because in so many ways they are ordinary 20 something girls, but then something just clicks when they are together and doing a show or a video. They just transcend themselves somehow, like kpop superheros (haha). Then after the show, at a meal, they are back to regular people, bickering like sisters and talking about food and shopping.

    I think your observation about how the Y2K aesthetic is more than an aesthetic and actually serves as a visual metaphor is really astute. But I’d also like to point out that instead of being a critique on any particular type of women, I think this comeback is mocking a very toxic culture, which anyone and everyone can be a victim of

    • @GG-ef7rf
      @GG-ef7rf Před rokem +1

      I think more than mocking the vanity that individuals may have, soyeon is trying to shine a light on the social pressures that are the root cause of that, and where that actually comes from (this is a much larger question, and soyeon zeroes in on certain aspects like the pressure to follow fashion trends, toxic standards for body types/how we view weight in general, plastic surgery and the entertainment industry)

    • @komerican-og
      @komerican-og  Před rokem

      Great point. There is just too much vanity.

    • @GG-ef7rf
      @GG-ef7rf Před rokem

      @@komerican-og indeed, but something very interesting that soyeon does about this “vanity” that’s demonstrated, is that in Queencard, she turns it on its head and repurposes this seemingly very shallow sentiment into a kind of uncompromising confidence based on self love (the last part of the song with the chants is what made me realise this)
