In 2008 Tony Stark said I am Iron Man. He said those words because of how exciting it was to be a super celebrity. He wanted to flaunt to the world that not only he is super genius but a superhero too. Being a superhero was a game to Tony. Iron Man did nothing but further inflate his ego.
But then Tony Stark met Nick Fury. Fury set Tony down a path where he would meet his friends: Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, Bruce Banner, Steve Rogers, and Thor Odinson. They would fight among themselves with Steve even telling Tony that an arrogant, narcissistic person like Tony would never make a sacrifice play. The team settled their differences when Agent Phil Coulson was killed by Loki. Together they became Earth Mightiest Heroes, the Avengers. Over the years Tony slowly grew from someone playing the fun superhero game to desperately wanting to protect everyone and everything.
Tony would later create Ultron in hopes embarking legacy of protecting the Earth so he wouldn’t have to, but it backfired.
Tony saw the mistake with Ultron and realized he and everyone should be put in check. He felt the Sokovia Accords was the perfect choice for that. Tony later discovers a kid in Queens, New York fighting crime in pajamas using boot leg tech he made on his own.
Seeing himself in that boy he takes him under his wing and upgrades him. He mentors the kid in hopes that he would become the legacy that Ultron was meant to be. He hoped that when Tony stoped defending the Earth this kid will take over. He wanted the kid, wanted Spider-Man to be a better hero than him. Tony in 2008 would never have done that.
Tony will eventually go on to fight Thanos, the person who deeply haunted him since 2012. As the battle ensues, Tony will lose and be spared at an ultimate price...by losing half of the universe...by losing Peter Parker. In order for Tony to live, Peter had to die.
Tony then decides to give up and live his life as a father but decides to suit up for one last endeavor in hopes of saving Peter and everyone from the decimation.
The scheme works and the final battle ensues with Thanos to prevent the decimation from happening again. As Thanos gets the gauntlet, Tony realizes why Dr Strange bargained for his life in the first place. He realizes what he had to do. He had to become the Real Hero. He had to become Iron Man.
As Tony retrieves the stones from Thanos, As the stones begin to destroy Tony’s body, Tony Stark calls himself Iron Man, not as of someone who would flaunt his talents or ego, but as someone who would make the sacrifice play, as the Iron Protector, as the Real Hero.

The thing that drives me is the fact that Tony probably never knew that he would have a kid, be a mentor to another superhero, fall in love with his true soulmate, and sacrifice himself for the greater good of humanity to all back in 2008. Just seeing how much he changed is inspiring.

Everybody wants a happy ending. Right? But it doesn't always roll that way. Maybe this time. I hoping if you play this back, it's in celebration. I hope families are reunited, I hope we get it back and something like a normal version of the planet has been restored, if there ever was such a thing. God, what a world. Universe, now. If you told me ten years ago that we weren't alone, let alone, you know, to this extent, I mean, I wouldn't have been surprised, but come on, the epic forces of dark and light that have come in to play. And for better or worse, that's the reality Morgan's gonna have to find a way to grow up in. So I thought I better record a little greeting, in the case of an untimely death, on my part.
