  • The relationship that BTS has between them as members and the company is something that really propelled them forward. I feel like as well, fans and prospective fans can feel how genuine these guys are about their music and their love for eachother and care that it really come across and you can just form that bond.

    I wasn't a huge kpop fan in the early 2010s so I don't know many details, but back in 2013-2014 I loved B.A.P and their case scarred me. Bang Yongguk (B.A.P's former leader)'s song AM 4.44 is an amazing insight in what the group and I'm speculating many others went through with small companies before BTS became big. I recommend it in a try not to cry challenge because that song made me bawl the first time I heard it.
    As I mentioned already, I was not familiar with the kpop industry back then, these are my two cents based on B.A.P's case, but small companies indeed treated their idols like trash because they were desperate to make money. They probably had zero hopes to make it big with their groups, what they knew for sure was that The Big Three were impossible to take down or at least overshadow in some way, so all they could do was at least get their investments back and maybe, MAYBE make some bonus money. But in B.A.P's case TS Ent. literally never paid the boys what they deserved, even after they paid back what the company invested in them. They ended up suing the company, went on hiatus, then came back saying that they got some sort of agreement, but nothing was the same and in the end their contracts expired and the boys left one by one, years of their lives wasted being overworked and underpaid, if paid at all sometimes. The maknae was 16 when he debuted and he had trained for 6 whole years before. A child. When I remember that 13-year-old Jungkook was also contacted by TS Ent., but he chose BigHit instead (forever grateful for Namjoon's existence and JK's appreciation for his thighs, thank you, thank you), I feel extremely relieved because damn. He dodged not a bullet, but a grenade.
    Once BTS' case proved that as long as you treat your idols well, the idols cooperate, they won't sue you, they'll do their best to pay you back and everyone is somewhat happy, I think a lot of small companies these days decided to follow the example to some degree. I can't guarantee that other small companies aren't still treating their idols like trash, but as you said, they're better at hiding it. Not only that, but BTS' success made kpop fans these days focus on small idols more and find amazing groups that otherwise they would've never found. I remember that back then everyone was focused on The Big Three only, literally no group outside of Big3 had won a daesang before BTS, that's how few people actually paid attention to small groups, they had zero chances of winning because no one was buying/streaming/voting.
    I feel like BTS' success changed a lot of things in this industry and in the way kpop fans themselves think now, either they like it or not. These days I personally can name more groups from small companies than from the Big3 and that's crazy. 10 years ago it was the opposite. Even BTS haters choose to focus on small groups to feel special and although that's weird and sad, they're helping them with streams and sells and eventually some of these people end up genuinely liking the idols so that's cool.
    When I see new small groups, sometimes I check them out. What I hear from the members is "BTS are our idols, our dream is to become like them" and I can only imagine how much hope BTS gave to all these kids. Unfortunately not everyone is going to make it big because reality sucks, but they're so cute, they're doing their best, and kpop fans see this, at least they're willing to give them a chance and by giving them a chance they're making sure that these children are getting rewarded for their work for as long as they're together. 2023 isn't 2012.
    If anything, I think the Big3 groups are more likely to be mistreated these days, only because the companies are trying way too hard to push them into the same direction as BTS instead of allowing these idols have their own path in the music world. e.g. SuperM that hurt not only the members, but also the groups they were part of by showing favoritism, overworking them, forcing new dynamics between men who had never worked with each other before, messing up their schedules, making them work on both SuperM and their original groups (that were already well established, iconic and doing great. We're talking about EXO, SHINee and NCT here, it's crazy), etc. That's mistreatment in my eyes. And unfairness, both coming from a Big3 company that everyone used to worship ten years ago. You won't see this kind of desperation from a small company, I think. Most small companies are taking it slow, like BigHit did. Times indeed change.
    If there are any EXO, NCT (and its subunits), SHINee or B.A.P fans here who think I got things wrong, feel free to correct me. You know better.

      Me too like that song is the tannies now idc what anyone says😭😭 just like Come back home is bts' remix but I would say a nice chunk of the fandom doesn't even know that that song isn't originally theirs and that's such a testament to the fact that no matter if they perform their own songs or not they always manage to make it theirs and have that bangtan essence

    It is fascinating. Because with BTS, even though they started small, BigHit was always behind them. Yeah they pushed them, but not inhumanly. But to me it is crazy how both big companies, big 3, or small companies alot of the time, will mistreat the idols in the company even though those idols are what are making the money.

    • @tracy4jester
      @tracy4jester  Před rokem +2

      it really blows my mind too...like myself (like most people) would be so happy having more money and bigger bank accounts, but i'd never mistreat, bring harm or do anything unethical or immoral in making that money. It actually would make me feel so uncomfortable and dirty. The fact that some of these CEOs and companies act like it's nothing and these people's lives and bodies and minds are nothing and they are entitled to doing whatever they please to make money from them, is actually disgusting. 😢😢

    • @revafarleyleebiit
      @revafarleyleebiit Před rokem +1

      @@tracy4jester For sure. And we all know companies need good enough cash flow to stay afloat, but it Never gives them the right to mistreat, harm or underpay the people under their company. What is sad is how many companies get away with it and never face repercussions.

    Why did hearing Tao (the chinese trainer who was scolding the trainees) talking about Exo make me cry 😭 it’s been YEARS but considering that he had to leave the group due to the mistreatment from the company (to the point where his health was in danger and his parents pulled him out and sued the company), every time I see/hear Tao and Lay talk about the group it hurts my heart.

    Hi, I am back. Good reaction, ty. Another good chapter. It's sad that many Kpop groups are like these girls. They don't care for each other thus, they don't last. BTS is different and there are others too. But I think the percent that are like BTS are real small. TXT, Enhypen, &Team, Le Serafim, SVT, Stray Kids I feel have a similar close bond like BTS. So they really started something special here. =0] I hope more groups follow suit. Bang PD told BTS to write from experience. So it was the company's idea from the get go. BTS and Big Hit /Bang PD just worked. The guys are such good ppl. They really learned well. The guys have said that they focused a lot on building their group bond. Some may say they overdid it but I like them as is. Their bond is special. I feel like bands that love each other and respect each other can last a long time in this industry. They share the burden of being an idol. Hugs. -NY USA 2019 Army💟

    Actually they didn't have to become friends. There are many groups in kpop who don't like each other. One of the old guard Super Junior aren't lovey dovey with each other. They are FRIENDLY but not necessarily FRIENDS. It's funny Suga said on video when the guys were together, he talked about how some groups ask them how they are so close. Because they didn't get it.
