    Im so thankful you are here. Im not a great singer and ive been playing the drums on my legs my whole life. Now i want to play for OUR Lord. Beside my little apostolic church has one drummer. I have to have this down by his trip to Jerusalem so i can cover. I like the flam. I learned that with the only song i can play all the way through we will rock you. (Kids love that)

    Yeah, the pre-build and post-build fills are where I spend the most prep time. So many opportunities there to do your thing without it being really obvious or standing out.

    To be clear: the loud hit with a flam is the count, the other smaller hit is before the count, not on the count. so it is ta-ONE, not one-TA.

    In the first fill you show R L R K then double crash. However, what is important to note is that there is a K with the double crash so actually it would be R L R K (K+C). Just an observation. That fill could also be R L R R K (K+C). The R R on the floor tom frees up the left hand and you can K+C with just the left hand and kick if you want. Then bring your right hand up to the ride and left hand back to the snare and continue your groove.

    • @irongonzales8947

      same observation bro😮

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před měsícem +2

      Are you referring to hitting on the 1 (downbeat) with 2 crashes? I was only considering the 4 notes before the 1 as the 'fill', if that makes sense.

    The rock wont move, by vertical worship has a 32nd note build.
    Its got a snare 32nd note grove that builds into a super fun break down grove on the ride/crash.
    Awesome worship song

      I LOVE that song. I used to play that one a ton at church. That part feels like 32nd notes because its a pretty high tempo, but its 16th

    On the first fill I noticed you give two kick drums, the last one goes with the cymbals

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 4 měsíci

      So that second kick would be the downbeat or the '1' after the fill. So if you count the fill out in 16th notes, the 4 notes would be '4(Snare), e(Rack Tom), &(Floor Tom), a(Kick Drum)'

  • @TochiNweze-yc3vz

    Hey bro. Trust in God is a awesome song. Elevation. What fills would you do for that song?

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 2 měsíci

      That is a good one, I've never played it though. I think these 2 fills in the video would work, but you would just have to change the feel to that 6/8 swing that the song is. Elevation also has a Worship Resources CZcams channel that is helpful.

  • @bpooboi

  • @annacs2345

    genuine question: I'm left-handed, and just started learning the drums; on a right handed kit. Is it advisable for me to learn fills like these with right hand lead so that i dont have to cross hands? it would feel better with left but i guess that's worse in the long run?? what do u think?

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 3 měsíci +1

      I’d recommend switching the kit to be left handed. But of the 2 options, I would say right hand lead. Crossing over wouldn’t be great and it would also help balance your hands as you progress.

  • @Joygulplay
    @Joygulplay Před 3 měsíci +1

    I really wanted to learn to do fills to make my drumming sound better but when I try to do a fill I loose the rythm of the song and I can't come back to play it.

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 3 měsíci +1

  • @flip7081
    @flip7081 Před 3 měsíci +9

    I’m really down for this, as far as basic, rudimental, drumming, and nifty takes on the fills, and things overall. I just really do not see how it correlates specifically with worship drumming as opposed to just good groove fills. Labels are labels are labels. Drumming is drumming is drumming. It’s just straightforward. The label doesn’t matter.

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 3 měsíci +18

      I get what you’re saying. These fills definitely aren’t specific to any style of music, but if you’re somebody that plays in church I think these are important to know. I use this label because I’m playing worship music 90% of the time and I find myself using these fills frequently. And practically, the label is useful in helping my intended audience find the video

  • @Re5M4n

    "modern worship" = contemporary pop and rock music.
    Otherwise nice fills, good work.

    • @Bellendrophone
      @Bellendrophone Před 3 měsíci

      Ikr? I love how they pretend this is actually some kind of genuine genre in its own right. Its just standard rock and pop drumming 😂 unless there's like, some rules about not crossing the sticks too low unless the sermon that week is about Saint Peter or aomething 🤣🤣🤣

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 3 měsíci

      I would say the style of pop/rock/country is closest to worship music but there are definitely some unique elements that make it its own genre. The lyrical content, obviously, but also some of the lead lines on guitar, piano etc can be pretty easily identified

    I have a difficult time with "worship" drumming. Being a drummer on a worship team in Church I find freedom in chops rather than labeling. Labeling is a big issue in society for me, even at low levels like "worship drumming".
    Maybe videos can be labeled "chops to better you groove for the pocket and fills".
    Nice video though.

    • @BrandonWeadon
      @BrandonWeadon  Před 4 měsíci +4

      I think it's just a term to identify the genre of music. Would be like country drumming, pop drumming, rock drumming etc.
