    My 2013 EcoBoost (3.5L) has 170,000 miles and it feels like it’s just getting broken in. Many oil changes and spark plug sets later… bigger turbos and an intercooler. Tuned to make 650hp. Intercooler and 3” stainless headers I’m still getting 14.6mpg. Not as good as 22, but it spins 38” all terrain tires and races Baja. lol.
    Glad you’re enjoying your truck. These days gas $$ is the biggest thing.
    Mine was 15.5mpg brand new. 2WD. Ground effects package. Complete smooth cardboard skid plates for air flow. It was totally “streeted out” for the MPg from ford.
    Now it’s got beyond-Raptor suspension, 38” tires, 650hp /485 at rear wheels. Fiberglass high clearance fenders, and the point is- all that shit-- and only lost ONE mpg.
    Trippy.
    Mileage isn’t good when Towing.
    Nice narration. Great video. Send to ford !! 🎉❤

    Regarding towing, you should definitely stick with tow/haul mode to get more engine braking. It helps quite a bit when I tow my 5-6K lbs race-car open trailer, and when I need more, I switch to manual and kick down even more during the long downhill. Don't worry about revving past 4K RPMs at times, and you'll see that you never need to use brakes, at least within the weights I've tried : ) 4K RPMs is not a problem for engine life, and the car wouldn't down-shift anyway if you'd get too close or above the redline..

    • @ArmyProperty
      @ArmyProperty  Před rokem +1

      We'll give it a shot... we've used tow/haul on steep descents without a trailer (partly to keep the engine from switching off), but didn't want to downshift too much and over-rev the engine -- plus, the truck didn't want to let us!

    I bought a PowerBoost F-150 one last week and am impressed with the speed. I wish I would have watched this video before, however, as the diesel sounds like a better choice for my uses. This will be a DD, but I work from home, and most of the heavy driving will be pulling a camper through the mountains. No one is talking about PowerBoost vs the diesel, and I wish they were. I'm really struggling to get over 17mpg, and I think it's because I live in an area with a lot of hills. The people getting 24+ mpg likely live in areas that are very flat.

    • @ArmyProperty
      @ArmyProperty  Před 4 měsíci +2

      Well, it's a tough call. The diesel definitely gets great MPG's under heavy load (and also when it's empty). But you've got zero engine braking when going downhill, and it struggles with a heavy trailer hitched up. And there's no Pro Power Onboard, it's just a 400-watt outlet which really can't power much of anything. So the PowerBoost has a lot going for it!!

  • @mitchellbrown400

    I have an F150 W/ FX4. Whether you "need" or not is highly subjective. Pro for the FX4 is downhill decent control. This is very helpful in on and off-road driving in ice and snow conditions to help keep the back end from slipping on turns in ice.

  • @Electrocycle300
    @Electrocycle300 Před 6 měsíci +1

    Yeah man - towing- you’d need big cylinders / big compression for engine braking. The Ram Cummins has a Jake brake and it’s FANTASTIC. I had a 2008 6.7 with the unimog transmission because Mercedes had just bought Chrysler.

      We've got a gooseneck in our 3.0 PowerStroke and we're probably gonna get one in the PowerBoost also. Payload on ours is only 1480lb so we don't have a lot of room to maneuver with pin weight, etc. Should be a nice towing truck though. Especially with lane-centering and adaptive cruise!!!

      I wish I had the max tow. I have all the options of a max tow except for the actual package on paper. Have the thicker Fran the 3.73 gears. Brake control. Everything but not the stiffer suspension. And it’s not even the fx4 only thing that scared me towing is me maxing out my payload. I have the scales and I can be hooked up with a full tank camper loaded and still be in the green. As soon as I get in the truck it goes in the red. I only weigh 190. I know most things are 5 to 1 when it comes to them testing and recommended the suspension. But long hauls scared the heck out of me. Nightmares of suspension failure or me breaking a leaf spring

    I have a king ranch powerboost I’ve always noticed it shifts a little harder going into 3rd and maybe 7th. it’s every now and then but other than that I don’t have a single complaint about the truck. I’ve got 30000 on it. And also blue cruise is amazing really takes the load off on long trips. I tow a 7 to 8000lb camper every now and then and tows great. The only problem is the payload. With a full tank me in it and a 815lb hitch weight I only have 220 pounds to play with and that’s with the camper pretty much dry. Gonna throw air bags on it and that should help a lot. But even still on pretty flat roads I get almost 10 but usually 7 to 9mpg. I love this truck just wish the payload was better but that’s what you get having that battery.

    Please don't forget the price of the diesel option, the diesel maintenance costs and the price of diesel fuel when comparing gas to diesel fuel economy. As a Ford Senior Master Technician, I have observed that I can purchase a lot of gasoline for the same amount of expenses in owning a diesel. The maintenance and repair costs, to me, far exceed the cost of fuel at less MPG. Just saying...

And you aren’t losing much in mpg’s, just a couple compared to the 5.0 , and you may find out that with the way you tow you might get over 10 mpg with the power boost. And that v8 doesn’t have much low end torque and then have to tow with rpm’s at at 3500-4000 all the time, that gets old quick

    Substantive and very useful. Thanks. A question. I was planning on getting a new full size suv, but the ability of a pickup to maximize my ability to go anywhere, anytime in any kind of weather, makes one of the high end, luxury, full size suv's like the newest Ford F150 Platinums very tempting. Don't need a pick up as much these days at age 60, but still really want one, for the above general reason, including that extra road clearance, and frankly, that very useful fold out flat work surface center console option, something I would use to take my home office mobile often. My question relates to your comments about the FX4 package, indirectly. I don't do any classic "off roading", though from time to time I might be on a dirt road to get to a camping or fishing spot or trailhead. I do a lot of highway miles and around town miles though. And I live at high altitude in mountainy western ski country. You said the Fx4 makes the drive less smooth, something like that, and for your purposes, sounds like mine, maybe not necessary. But what about getting the Platinum F150 levelled and possibly raised, not extremely so, but some. And specifically, I saw a high end lift kit that included swapping out the front leafs with spring coils. Do you think those coils would make the ride smoother, especially long distance highway miles? I'm also thinking about adding a slight offset, so the tires are flush rather than sticking way out, but do come out further than standard. Do you think offsetting some like that, a visible but more subtly visible amount, will lessen the smoothness of the drive? Thanks, and yes, thanks for reading my novel. 🙂

    • @ArmyProperty
      @ArmyProperty  Před rokem +1

      Really can't speak to how a leveling kit, and/or offset for the wheels, would affect things! But yes, as a general rule I think most people don't need the FX4 package. However -- the one and only case where the FX4 actually comes in handy, is when you have a lot of payload in the bed. That could be a load of bricks, or a gooseneck / 5th wheel trailer (like the one we just bought, which has 850lb of hitch weight). In that case, the FX4 shocks do a good job of controlling the movement of the rear axle, and they keep it from bottoming out or getting "squirmy" and "squirrely."

    @chrisf1147 Před rokem +3

    I’m going to share something strange, but close to my heart - I currently work in Hawaii and drive a LOT with my ‘16 3.5 EcoBoost 4x4 Expedition with the long wheel base and a small lift. I get 13.55 mpg overall and METICULOUSLY try to improve it… but given that I’ve got 166k miles on it and go through brake pads with the hills here.
    I spend about $300 on gas every month and pay $450 a month for my payment. I honestly see myself always driving a newer car… and I idle a LOTTT, which kills the turbos, clogs my (1st gen) 3.5 EcoBoost’s EPA add-on parts… and a litany of other issues…
    I honestly see myself saving money by purchasing a newer Powerboost - for say… $55,000 and paying closer to $800 a month for it… and cutting my gas usage to say… $100 a month - simply due to the economy savings by my idling/hill/brake usage here in Oahu.
    I fully believe that the end of the western civilization may come soon, and with the already CONSTANT power outages here on island, having a truck that can power my house, tools, a fifth wheel, etc - is an AMAZING thought.

    As well, 7500 to 10000 mile oil change intervals are ridiculous in my opinion. If you do the maintenance at a 3k to 5k interval, service the trans every 30k, like we used to do, these vehicles can go 500k. These extended intervals that the EPA wants are ridiculous for vehicle life. I service Fords with only factory filters and fluids, more often than recommended, and find you can achieve 500k on a Ford truck easily. 3K oil changes and fluid changes every 30k extend vehicle life. Most of us drive under "severe duty" conditions and require that maintenance schedule.

    Ford must have paid you a lot of money to write this review. I bought my 2021 Powerboost in November 2021 and have had many problems with it. I’ve reported many of them to the NTSB as the truck has literally tried to kill me at least five times. Once the hydraulic brakes failed and the vehicle drove into 55 mph cross traffic, and a car coming from the left had to swerve into the oncoming lane to avoid T-Boning me. Another time the transmission just quit in the middle of highway cross traffic, and luckily dozens of vehicles stopped rather than hitting me. Drive assist has tried to kill me three times. With all my GM vehicles since 2000 I’ve always got 2-3 mpg over sticker, with this I get 19, not 24. The entertainment system keeps failing while driving. The 72kw generator cannot be used on a home as for ground fault errors. These are just a few of the problems I’ve had. Ford refuses to take this seriously, and service just tells me, “Hopefully it won’t happen again!” I don’t recommend this truck to anyone, unless you are willing to kill off your family and people in other vehicles.

      Sorry to hear about the trouble! Unfortunately we have not yet met anyone from Ford who will pay us to post good reviews. We're speaking 100% from our own experience. Ford really needs to have a good process in place to deal with failures like the ones you described.

      Hard to say for sure! But we've got two 2021 F-150's with 80,000 miles combined on them. Practically zero issues so far. Couldn't be happier. The PowerBoost has a huge amount of new technology piled into it (on top of the 3.5 EcoBoost which is already very complicated), so we'll see how it holds up. The 3.0 PowerStroke diesel is running perfectly so far. I guess we'll see. The big deal in terms of longevity, at least in the rust belt, is the aluminum bodies that will never rust.... which is a major advantage over Ram / GM / Toyota. If you've ever owned a truck that rotted into a pile of rust, you know the deal.
