  • In this segment, we discuss and shoot Winchester's Model 53, a lightweight version of the popular Model 1892. These rifles were available from 1924 to 1932 and chambered in 25-20, 32-20 and 44-40 calibers. They're scarce today and highly sought after by both collectors and shooters. Join us as we take a closer look at these great little lever action rifles.

    The smaller calibers in a handy true rancher carbine rifle lever action are marvelous 👌! From pest control to predators even deer and easy on the shoulder and fun too boot!

    I also have a model 53 in .25-20. Great little rifle and I love the 92 carbines and rifles. I once saw a .44-40 version but the guy was holding it for his daughter’s future husband and as much as I wanted that rifle, that was too high of a price for me!! 😢

    Great video Mark!. Just the right amount of information vs. shooting. It's a bugger keeping track of your spent brass in the tall grass isn't it? A metal detector if you have one works wonders. I do a lot of reloading for most of the Winchester calibers and would enjoy seeing you put together your specific loads for the ones you shoot. Will look forward to the next video.

      Thanks Titan! I'm glad you liked it. Great suggestion! I've been trying to film at scenic locations rather than a range, but it's amazing how good brass can be at hide-n-seek in the grass! I lost quite a few on my first couple of shoots, but started taking a detector with me and it solved it quick. Will likely add some reloading content when the snow flies and I'm cooped up in the shop over the long winter.

    I can tell I'm gonna love this channel just by the intro. Just seeing your choice in guns I was like "yes. YES. YEEEEES!" Excellent choices. Then I saw the rack of Winchesters. Sold. These are the guns I wanna see.

    I inherited a Model 53 44-40 with a serial # 10xx, was serialized on September 26, 1924. Love shooting it so I'm glad I stocked up on ammo for it before 2020 happened lol. Great video! You earned a subscribe and a like!

    I really, really, like those '53's but, that M.65 stole my heart! I can't wait for you to do an episode with it and if I ever find one for sale that I can afford, it will be coming home with me. :-)

    As for the gun buying process with the wife , God bless you and good luck! He he he 😂! Have to do that little dance myself ! P.s. Browning make some lovely little lever guns in .218 bee ,25-20 , .32-20! Owned all of them and had to sell the because of an ex- wife! Long story anyways. Great guns too collect and hunt with! And yes they are very fun to shoot! Work well for ladies and kids or kids at heart !

      I'm very lucky that my wife is a serious gun collector, too. Makes my addiction much easier to deal with. I haven't had the opportunity to shoot the Brownings, but I've been told they are very nice little rifles. Thanks for watching!

    I wonder why the bolt action became more popular? Heavier calibers? I suppose buying a cheap milsurp bolt gun would be a budget friendly option, vs a brand-new lever gun.

    I would trade both my pinky toes for one of those 53's in 25-20 or 32-20,, might even swap my ever loving soul for one that was tight & in good shooting shape 🤠

      They're fantastic little rifles. Seems like people are discovering them more these days and the collector value has really climbed. If you find a good one, don't let it get away.

    I have a Model 53 that I inherited in 44-40 It is in excellent condition. Do you know what they are worth?

    • @thecinnabar8442
      @thecinnabar8442  Před 4 lety +1

      If it has a high percentage of original metal and wood finish, it could be worth around $3,500. If it's been refinished, it would lose it's collector value and would be worth around $1,200 as a shooter.

    • @ChristopherLorine
      @ChristopherLorine Před 4 lety +1

      It has all original bluing and the hardware is in great condition. Where would you suggest I go to sell it?

  • @vadenk4433
    @vadenk4433 Před 2 lety

    Odd question. What different species of game birds do you have living on the Cinnabar?

    • @thecinnabar8442
      @thecinnabar8442  Před 2 lety

      Let's see - at various times, we see geese (Canadian, Dusky, Snow), many varieties of ducks, quail, grouse and chukars. They're not game birds, but we also have several Trumpeter Swans in residence on the ranch.
