  • A feature on my Jaguar XJ8 SE V8 - the XJ has been Jaguar’s pinnacle luxury saloon car from 1968 to 2019, and my car is textbook ‘classic Jag’ having been finished in British Racing Green with Cream Leather interior. This near 20 year old Jaguar still impresses driver, passengers and passers-by… it is a lovely thing!
In this video I cover a brief history of the XJ saloon cars, some details about my XJ8 and we take the Jaguar on a drive across the picturesque roads of Dartmoor. Plus, there is a surprise instore at the end of this video as I swap my XJ8 for a new (well, new to the Channel) car… so stay tuned to the end!
Hope you enjoy watching - if you have something to say about the video, the XJ or to share your experience of Jaguar then please do leave a comment, it is great to hear from you.

I had one and loved it, also an S-Type 4.2 V8. Both lovely, but a bit heavy on the maintenance - I had quite a few problems with the air suspension in the XJ. I think the modern Jaguars have lost their way, producing cars just like BMW or Mercedes, but without their R&D. For me, the USP was always the gorgeous leather and wood interiors.
Down the road from you, near Bodmin!

Thanks for the comment Chris, always great to hear from a local watcher of my videos. I enjoyed the XJ8 very much and up until recently had an S-Type R myself (there is a video on the Channel if you have not seen it). Costs can be a little eyewatering, but these Jaguars do drive beautifully so there is a little reward for getting them right. Thanks for watching - do stay tuned.

I owned for many years a wine red 1989 S Klass Mercedes 420 SEL and loved driving it, planning on making my last car, however that wasn't to be. It had started costing too much and I traded it on a black Jaguar XJ8 2005 and I really like it. The J gate transmission is a lot of fun to drive and I'm amazed at the fuel economy. It's quite amazing for a V8.

It was the only one car I liked outside Rover firm Sir ! I was ready to buy a second hand Jaguar xjr 4.2 Super V8 , V.P with 3 screens & sunroof ( long wheelbase) , in 2020 (without selling my Rovers - 414 SLi & 45),but I was a little bit unlucky, despite the fact I could afford the purchase of that great car.. It's the last modern Jaguar bringing back memories from..the old school car designs...I like this big cat more than the modern models..

I have a immaculate X358 2.7 diesel, remapped ECU with 258bhp and 400 lb feet torque. The only cars that I would consider replacing it with would be a Maserati Quattroporte or a Bentley Arnage, both with the potential to be ruinously injurious to my wallet.

These aluminium bodied cars are probably the best of the breed. Light, better on fuel but the retro styling (at the time) probably handicapped it. The Ian Callum version that followed isn’t half bad either and again will probably be the last of the breed. The global large sedan market has all but evaporated and even the Germans struggle to make the business case work now.

Thanks for the comment and great to read through your Jaguar history - you've had some awesome cars. I do agree, the X350/8 is the last of the 'classic Jaguars' and the more modern cars really are something of a disappointment.
The new car, coming soon to the Channel, is not German... and based on your car history I am certain you'll like it (or at least be interested to see progress with it).
No plans to sell anything else... the Sierra GL went to a friend of mine and the XJ8 was swapped for a car I have always wanted. Also, I've still got lots of old Ford and MG / Rovers in the collection to feature.
