- In this mandolin video lesson, I give you a melody sequence for the G-major scale. It’s a two-note pattern that is very useful to practice your technique but also in the form of a vocabulary builder that you can use as a lick in your improvisations.
I’m even demonstrating how to use this line to make variations to Irish tunes like Morning Star and Bluegrass repertoire like Big Sciota.
It’s an excellent exercise for building your technique and improving your vocabulary, a must-know line for improvisers.
You'll find sheet music, tabs, and audio tracks for this lesson in Mandolin Secrets Academy.

What are your thoughts about this lesson? Do you play and practice melodic sequences like this?
Really enjoyed, just starting back on mandolin after many years.
Love your videos Magnus! This is a great lesson, and I hope to apply it for improvising fills.
Thanks @xloud2000! That sounds good!
Excellent examples of how to put this technique into practice.
Thanks @Tacomando!
Thank you
You are welcome @yavemarrow6409!
Thank you! This was so helpful! Yes, I have been working on some sequences, based on Hanon piano exercises. I just started on mandolin a few weeks ago, and it was very helpful to hear you talk about ways to practice this particular exercise. FYI, I first found you through the podcast. I have listened to 10 episodes so far!
Thanks @AmandaRobertsMusic! Glad to have you in our mandolin community!
