two months ago I went to the ring, just to relax. When I walked by Apex, the E46 was parked outside and I had to see it IRL. It's beautiful. George was in the garage came out, and took some time explaining what had been done to the car and what the plan is moving forward. That was so cool in a relaxed atmosphere considering all the "stress" that used to be around the garage when you stopped by just a year ago. Really appreciated he took the time to chat and show me the car.

@@RobertMitchell We was out in almost all taxis multiple times. Also rented multiple cars. Good to hear I was not alone. It felt like everyone is running and chasing numbers. Track closing in 2 minutes, Kathi speaking with the marshal, to get one more guy out. It was always one more. It took one yellow, or track closure to mess up everything. Don't put me wrong I liked all the services. I always wanted to have a chat with Robert, Misha, Dyana, George, Tim or Ice Cold... But it felt like im in a queue all the time. Anyway, changed for the better. Everyone more calm, less stress. Hopefully see you later this year.

So I may be different from many of your subscribers. What I appreciate is the measured professional approach and the credibility that comes from so many laps in a variety of cars. You are modest in demeanor and the opposite of a narcissistic influencer.

@@RobertMitchellMaybe an idea on that topic; You know how TF feels when being in a really fast car and also slower cars. Maybe explain how to behave on overtakes on TF, when to slow down to let someone pass or when to drive in your own speed and let a faster car pass on the next straight. I drive an e87 130i with suspension, brake, seats etc. but of course being a lot slower than e.g. 911 and m3 drivers. Sometimes I get the feeling that I am a bit too reserved and slowing down, staying on the right side too much and it would have been better to just have driven my pace through the section and let them overtake on an straight section a but later. Also because I slowed down the next person will be behind me to get past sooner.
Maybe you could give some recommendations on that, not a lot of infos on track behavior that is from a reputable source ;)

I had a really hard time the last couple years coming onto CZcams because of the flash, the bling, and as you guys mention the narcissistic behavior. As always, really like your approach! A lot of people get lost to more and mire bigger and flashy things to look better in front of others, you build your stuff the way you personally like. I also believe that being the fastest on the ring is not that entertaining in the long run but having a car that feels alive is worth way more in the end. Thats how the e46 will end up I think. As you said, not build for the very best possible lap time but to be a blast to drive.

Suspension question: how to tune compression / rebound in relation to anti roll bar & tire pressure?
My understanding is that suspension tuning is for corner entry and exist, anti roll bar is for mid corner, and tire pressure is quite tricky, a lot of times it just depend on how strong is the side wall.

In depth aero while keeping a clean profile and in depth suspension talk would be very appreciated. The later is what most ppl really do wrong, slam the car, reduce shock travel, compromise suspension arms angles, incorrect spring rates etc etc.
For the E46 is think a lot of gain can be had with underbody work, the font bumper can extend a flat surface to the wheel wells with difusors leading to it. Here is where vented fenders from Mkrennsport or Karbonius can really work. For the rear a sealed diffusor that incorporates the 4 pipes would be nice, from the diff back. Varis is the only outfit that has a 2 piece difusor like this and is maybe worth looking into.

I would like to ask JRZ:
    Managing roll rate.
    1. How do you discern the difference in rebound and compression adjustments in regard to slowing roll rate?
Adding rebound can keep the inside wheel from extending, keeping the car flat. Adding compression can add roll resistance on the outside corner. But how do you discern which adjustment is needed as a driver in regard to roll.
    2. How do you balance valving with gas pressure (outside of cavitation) in regard to vehicle support?
    3. How do you manage valving as a roll stiffness contributor along with spring and bars? Does JRZ target specific natural frequencies for each chassis that the valving range is based on?
    3. What is the consensus on low vs high speed velocity crossover (how many in/sec?)

Nice little catch up video! With the next one as someone who doesn’t know much about suspension I’d like to understand why say kw v’3 for example would be a better choice than something like bc racing, H&R equivalent’s! And would the type of car change what type of suspension you may need for the same purpose? Say George has a mini and Tom has a m3 would a different type of suspension suit something better for track use?

Especially when someone goes in and out of the gravel traps on the Ring and chucks gravel all over the track, which following cars then throw up at the ones behind them.

Curious on the suspension choice. For me the definition of a RingTool would be - enjoy the drive to Adenau/eiffel, do some TF, go back the same day. And take the car out on other weekends on twisty roads. Does it really need a motorsport line damper (too harsh, not enjoyable?), or would RS be a better choice (too weak)?

Another Great video, enjoyed watching 🤗👍🏻
    - would like to know more about underbody airflow, how to reduce lift, air around the wheels and air inside the wheel arches.
Would like to know how much the height of the front splitter above the tarmac affects the car’s stability at high speed sections. That is an issue I assume reduces the stability of my track car, that I get to much air under my front end.
Also, what if you reduce the gap from front splitter to tarmac, how does it impact the effectiveness of a rear end diffuser?
What about side splitters to keep the air under the car and not let it out sideways, but directing it to the rear end diffuser..
Would love to hear your thoughts on this Robert 🤓

The thing about the cost of stuff like this is when you can see where the money went and why, like some stuff may be practically hand built, and the hours and craftmanship, experience, expertise that have gone into it, you can appreciate it. Just buying an expensive car off the shelf and filming it doesn't show any of that. Often the most interesting bits are in the details, even bits that aren't normally seen - like the underbody stuff on the GT2RS MR.

  • @olo398

I like the twist in the video rls format for the e46 build. The money part, why not talk about it cuz it is what it is.
The PPF, I mean really, who cares? It's your car, do w/e you want and I think the majority would PPF considering the all the work and the lvl you're trying to achieve.
As an e46 original owner myself, I'm living vicariously through you in the build, wish I can do the same. I do know I have a "classic" car on my hands so gonna keep it unless I get a stupid money offer. Funny here in the bay area they're becoming more and more rare (e46s), still plenty of brand new/new m3s/4s.

    • @RobertMitchell
      @RobertMitchell  Před měsícem

I agree you’re very much going towards having a top end classic on your hands. Really cool that you were the original owner and I think that’s gonna be something in the handful of yours. That is quite hot after. Don’t ever sell it unless you get the right money.

You shared your plan to reduce what Apex does back in January, we know you are back from Florida and focused on the E46 build. That's alot when stacked on top of your normal job, but simply curious if you have anything else on your ring agenda.

Who wouldn’t PPF a car after a paint job like that. I added it to my whole front end, lower doors, and quarters on my e46. I even added it over existing touched up chips. Finding a good painter can be difficult also.

  • @DontPanicDear
    @DontPanicDear Před měsícem

    Re the PPF….
If you get a Tier1 paint job done on your P&J, then get PPF on it if you plan to use the thing 🤓
    Re the condition….
These are nearly ALL in need of a decent remedial spend.
Don’t take anybodies word that they’re selling a hight price but ‘perfect’ E46 M3!
    Re the money….
This is the way we all want to build cars, but can’t afford to.
Most of us have project cars that are never finished, so seeing this in stages is amazing.
    Re Q4….
