Hey man rewatching these just for the heck of it. I watched them and they helped me so much man!
Glad to hear!
@@MidValleyMercenaries I'm getting a puppy in 3 weeks. Your channel is awesome.
Thanks
@@traviscompton1244 hey three weeks have gone by how’s the new puppy
I just got a black lab as an early birthday present yesterday, I named her magnolia.
Awesome! Good luck with her!
Same her name is benelli
Courtland Boyett I’m getting a chocolate lab tomorrow for an early birthday present toooo!!!
That’s a beautiful name
Getting into waterfowling, been more of an inland deer/small game hunter, never had to train a dog, this looks helpful, thank you!
This is awesome! Rocky has turned into such an impressive duck dog. We just got our lab a little over a week ago and are looking forward to working with her to do the same. Definitely going to be watching this series!!
Thanks. Good luck! Wish you the best
I'm so excited for this series. I am looking into getting my first gun dog, I've grown up with a couple but they were always my dad's and I want my own to train now that I am out of the house, so I can't wait to follow along and get some tips from you! I am also looking to start a CZcams channel so I might document it as well
Zachary Scholl Thanks! I’m looking forward to documenting it. Glad to have you follow along! I don’t claim to be a pro but I’m good at following directions so I really believe he’s gonna turn out top notch!
I really enjoyed all of your videos of training Rocky. After a lot of research, I decided to follow your lead and go with the Chris Akin series. My pup is 8 weeks old and I am looking forward to getting her trained up. Should be posting videos of our whole journey as well. Thanks, man!
Kyburg Industries Thanks and good luck!
I appreciate you doing this. My pup is a female black lab and 7 weeks old. I can’t wait to work with her and get ready for next season.
Good luck!
This is helping me so much with my dog thanks man
Just got a pure bred black lab couple months ago. His dad was a hunting dog along with his grandfather, he’s got champion bloodlines his father and grandfather winning competitions. Never trained a dog for hunting but hopefully he will be in the duck blind with me soon.
Good luck man!
This is awesome I’m looking at getting a lab or golden retriever myself. I was looking to see how people are training there dogs. Keep it coming.
Good luck with a dog. There will be a lot more videos once Rocky hits 16 weeks
You may have already seen this but me and a buddy used a book by Tom Dokken, a trusted named in retriever training, and they both came out pretty good. Has nice month by month breakdowns on what to be doing.
Thank you! I’m definitely gonna look into it. Appreciate it
The way he jumped into the crate is so cute
How much do you miss this days? Such a good looking dog Rocky is.
I do miss it. Thanks. Get to have fun help train his pup Kelly now
Great video. Training my new pup who's 2 months. Watch out They grow up fast on you. She's almost bigger than our 9 year old lab. Crazy how quickly they grow
Thanks! It is crazy. A week ago he was 16 lbs. this week he is over 19. Good luck with your pup
i watch your videos over and over and its helps a lot
Brings so meny memories.
Woo So glad you are gunna train Rocky yourself. Its so much fun bonding with them and watching them grow into big Duck dogs :)
GirlsHuntToo Vlogs I’m pretty excited now. Didn’t feel confident before but after watching Chris Akin’s methods I’m positive I can do it
Its fun. You will have your good times and bad time. Message me if you have any issues :)
Thanks I appreciate it.
I know this is an old video but I’m getting a duck dog in august! So I came back to watch this series again however i wanted to know how you went about the first couple weeks Rocky was home. Like potty training, initial obedience and stuff like that because that’s what’s stressful to me is getting a good start on your puppy from day 1
Just got a Münsterländer, there’s so much work to look forward to.
Picking up my pooch on oct 1, I came across your video and purchased the gun dog basics pack. watched your videos all the way up too the advanced gun dog training. I'm excited to start this adventure instead of shipping Moose out to get trained by someone ells. also thank you for your service.
Thank you and good luck with your pup!
Just got me a yellow lab. Gonna follow your videos, thanks for making these!
This is going to be helpful cause I’m getting me a duck dog soon
Awesome videos I just got my first pup the other day so your videos will be a big help for me because she is the first duck dog I have ever had
Awesome man! Congrats on your pup. I highly suggest getting Chris Akin Gun dog baiscs. He’s the pro I’m just trying to copy. Glad I can help!
That dog is gonna be a STUD!
👊🏼😎👍🏼
Cool...Thanks for sharing! Looks like he's coming right along.
Bwanar1 Thanks
Thanks buddy
Picking up a dog in June just came across this thank you for sharing it will be helpful
Hey, found the video!! I got my lab today and am going to use your videos for my training!
Thank you I appreciate it!
Just bought a lab. These videos are very helpful. Thank you!
Thanks for your videos!! Can you please put all your dog training videos in a playlist in order so they are easier to find and watch in order?
Thanks. They already are. The playlist is duck dog training
Heyyoo, I watched this series over and over before getting my Boykin with dreams of my dog turning out like Rocky! Hoping I can do the same with my Boykin, but following the Smartwork program.
2 years later.... what dog... #Rockyboy
Hey I love the channel. Just found this series and loving it so far. Question did you give rocky treats for getting him to go into his kennel or just praised him. Just wondering cause I am starting to train my 10 week old lab. I have a good bit of questions cause I have the Chris akin dvd and there are some things I’m not clear about wondering if you would know.
Ya I did treats for a few days to get him to go in
Were getting one this weekend and this vid was great
Good luck and thanks!
Just got my black lab. 9 week year old. And will order that vid now.
Nice dog
I am going to get my first lab here in a few weeks. My plan is to do all his training myself.
Good luck!
Thank you I know it will be a lot of hard work but very rewarding in the end
That’s super cool.
I am having some trouble finding American Black Lab Breeders in my area. How did you find Rockys breeder?
Sweet vids
Need to make a Playlist for these vidz
I did 👍🏼
My first dog's name was Rocky, Black Lab/Vizsla :D
When you had Rocky at this age was he doing a lot of puppy biting? How'd you handle it? Just got my pup and man he loves to bite haha
Hey man rewatching this bc ir like my dog trainer that crazy ima bout to get. Duck dog
Congrats
I've been watching your series and have really been enjoying it. Great work and thank you for sharing. Where did you get Rocky from if you don't mind me asking?
I got him from one of my dads litters
@@MidValleyMercenaries Very cool, Rocky is an awesome dog. I am watching your most recent hunt and he is killin it. I'm looking to get my first dog here soon and I'm not sure if I want a Lab or Brittany. I do mostly upland hunting, but I would love to try some duck hunting next year. There are so many great qualities in every breed it makes it hard to choose.
Dylan Miller totally agree man. Good luck on getting the right dog.
So I just got an 8 wk old lab, and I am watching your videos because they are more for the average person trying to train a dog. However, you needed to do a video on the time before and the teething stage. Any suggestions? Its very frustrating and tiring.
OMG so cute!
Dose good bloodlines matter in a dog for training them to hunt
I got a new lab but it’s is a little bit of poodle so it’s called a labradoodle lol
That is a pretty dog nice video
Thank you
Hi. I have a black lab named Storm and I’m going to follow you videos because we want her to be a duck dog. Thanks!
Awesome thank you for following! Good luck with Storm! If you follow Chris Akin and his methods she’ll turn out to be awesome just like Rocky. You can see how he did his first season by watching our duck hunting vids
Mid Valley Mercenaries Perfect thank you!
You’re welcome
What feed did you feed him? Also how often did you feed him as a pup?
During that time it was Purina pro plan. I fed him whatever the bag said for his weight
Is this an English lab or American
What do you recommend doing for crate training to stop barking and whining.
If it’s brand new it’s just gonna take time with a puppy. Not much you can do, just part of the dues of having a young dog
awsome!!!
Beautiful pup he looks like my charlie
Thanks
Also, how did you train him to go in the kennel? Mine wants nothing to do with it? I keep throwing treats in there and he goes and gets them but thats only way he will go in there.
First mistakes are using the kennel as punishment, leaving the dog in their for a long length of time, or always locking the door whenever the dog goes in.
First thing to rehabilitate your dog to a kennel is to take 15 steps away from it, throw treats and favorite toys. Dont lock the dog in their, always praise them when they step inside, and throw an old jacket in there that smells like you. If it is still not working, get a meaty dog bone and only allow the dog to only eat it inside, once finished immediately let the dog back out.
Dogs absolutely love kennels when properly acclimated, it is a sacred den area to them. It's an instinctual part. Most of the time it's people who screw that part up by spoiling them or using it as a place of punishment.
Use a side closet instead as a time out instead of the kennel or the bathroom. You'll thank me down the line.
Any regrets taking Rocky at 6 weeks old? Or is it better to leave them with mom & litter mates until 7-8 weeks. I just bought a black lab puppy (6 wks old) breeder said I can take her now. She is weened/1st shots/dew clawed. I'm anxious to get her but heard you shouldn't take a pup that early. I just figure she can start bonding with me now 😂
No regrets at all. I personally will do it on every dog I get. Feel like it was better for bonding
@@MidValleyMercenaries awesome thanks for the quick response. I live in southern Idaho driving down to Utah tomorrow to pick her up. Going through your dog training videos right now 😂. I think I'm going to order the Chris Akin program. We love your channel thanks for all the videos! Trying to become better waterfowlers with my 3 boys. Merry Christmas to your family
👍🏼👍🏼
My girl won’t bring it back, no matter how much hooping and hooray I do.
Question and please help I have a 6 month old dog he’s been training since 8 weeks and he has done amazing up until this point up to about 5 month he was retrieving perfectly water and ground but he is now playing keep away and making a few good retrievers per session, is drive is amazing already and I’m not overdoing the session but how do I correct this now ?
Keep a 50ft. Check cord attached for retrieves so you can pull him in
I’ve been following your journey with rocky and I recently got a pup and I was just wondering how much training you did with him before you started “formal” training?
Not much. Crate training, sit and letting him associate with other animals and people
Mid Valley Mercenaries thank you for the reply. My pup is 15 weeks and he has sit, stay, and come down pretty good. Just wondering if I should be working on heal right now or wait tell he gets older. I took your advice and got Chris Akin’s DVD’s and I know he says around 6 months for heal. Just want to know your thoughts on this. Should I let him explore during walks or work heal and on walks have him heal as well? Sorry for the long comment.
Bill Valasedes I did everything like Chris says and I would do it the same all over again. It’s easy to get anxious but don’t. Let him be a pup, he’ll be working soon enough
my lab just turned 7 months, do you think there’s still a chance to train him? he knows the basics but i fell off from training when he was younger.
For sure. He’s just now ready to train
Where are the rest of the training video’s
czcams.com/play/PLYsF44FmxAiXd2UvIh-T67AhqzpxoQPvm.html
Thanks
More videos of training
Will do!
I want a dog like that
He’s pretty fun but alot of work
We might be getting a dog like that
How did you go about training Rocky to get in the kennel when you say kennel? I'm kennel training my pup now as well. He's doing okay and I feed him in there, but doesn't like going in when he knows I'm shutting the door.
I just did it over and over again without shutting the door and than when it came time to shut the door it didn’t make a difference.
Makes sense, thanks! Did you have any trouble getting him to focus on retrieving? My pup will retrieve fine a couple of times and then all of a sudden he wants to attack my hands and feet, or drops it and gets distracted. He is only 8 weeks though so I'm guessing this is probably normal for a puppy.
Totally normal. Chris Akin says leave them wanting to retrieve. In other words stop before he gets bored. Otherwise distractions always happen. I would literally only throw Rocky 4 or 5 tosses and that was it, anything outside of that he’d start chasing butterflies
What size bumper do you use?
Grant Keffeler the 2 inch
If you want to be a part of an awesome Facebook group. and website you should get a membership at theretrievertrainer.com . It’s freddy kings sight. It gets you full access to the private group on Facebook. There are tons of trainers including freddy that’s willing to answer any questions you may have. Freddy does a lot of work with Chris akin!! Good luck man!
wesley fussell sweet! I’ll check it out man thanks!
I need to train my puppy to retrieve a duck
Check out our playlist. Should help you
Thank you a lot
No prob!
You should also do dog retrieving in water
I bet he broke that pot in your front yard... didn't he... lol
Haha! That’s what my wife says but I know he’d never do anything like that
How long and how many times a week did you train
Only 5-10 minutes at a time. When he’s older max 15 min. You can train 1-3 times a day. 1 Time a day is plenty. I missed days too cuz of work, I just did what I could
Thank you! Have had plenty of dogs but never wanted to train one untilk now trying to Balence him and work but thank you!
No prob
When is your next video
It will be in 2-3 weeks for the gun dog training part 2. The older he gets the more frequent the videos will be because his training will be more intense
Mid Valley Mercenaries ok
7 dislikes are cat people
Getting a dog in two months
Awesome!
Inspired by you
The bass master 3232 Thanks. You’ll do great
