Using UV Glue to REPAIR Glass Furniture

  • Hi, this video shows a glass computer desk being repaired using UV glue purchased from eBay. When repairing glass furniture UV glue is ideal because it is hard to see the adhesive that bonds the metal to the glass, so the finish is nice.
    Many thanks, Vince.

Interesting. Didn't know there was such a thing as UV glue. If that's what the manufacturer used then hopefully it'll be strong enough

It almost certainly will have been a UV cured cyanoacrylate adhesive the manufacturer used it has been around for at least 30yrs or more.

Thx Vince for taking time to put out video but as MSDOS4 pointed out a heavy glass drawer with a a keyboard sitting on it is In my opinion not safe being supported with just glue and no mechanical support.(My shelf has just come away at three of the four glued areas and I had to let the shelf hang down which made the last glued area come apart)Not a good advert for the manufacturer or any glass furniture manufacturer.
I am going to try to work out a better solution to hold heavy 6mm thick heavy undershelf with keyboard sitting on it
in place rather than rely on four glued areas.
If I come up with a solution I will post it on CZcams.

I know this is an old video but feel the need to comment anyway. Acetone lovely stuff and works but to remove cured cyanoacrylate like the original adhesive Nitromethane works better but is not easy to get. After cleaning the old glue residue and re wiping with acetone would be all you need, it wouldn't be necessary to use Isopropanol as well.

Just use sunlight its the UVC that cures it those little blue LED's will work but the UVC in sunlight is far better. and quicker or a UVC lamp but with those things (UVC Lamps) looking at it is very bad and will damage eyes but it isn't necessarily permanent If exposure isn't for too long. But it does feel like you have grit in your eyes for a while. Don't ask how I know that :-) Excessive exposure will blind you though, how much UVC in the eyes is excessive? Any direct UVC exposure to the eye is too much. the blue light from the LED's is barely UV at all but it can still be dangerous it contains mainly blue light with UVA, B and some C components.

Any UV cured cyanoacrylate adhesive intended for glass repairs will do it, and sunlight is the best and safest source of UV for this application but UVC works best if you have a UVC light source UV steriliser wand is UVC.
