Sometimes in life when something truly awful happens I ask myself, "how could this be a best case scenario?" It often feels preposterous to even consider that because of how bad the situation may be, but I find it frees up my creative mind to see what's happening from a totally different perspective. Perhaps your company closing actually leads you to an even better opportunity that you couldn't see before? It seems like you'll get through this just fine. Takes a lot of courage to share a video about a moment like this, and you handled it and expressed yourself exceptionally well.

Yup. I got let go from my last job of 9 years and honestly, I was mentally and physically exhausted from being there so long. I'd tell my Mom over and over that I want something else and that I'm not happy there at the time and she knew and told me to keep at it we'll figure something out. After that, I struggled on my own looking for a job. 2 days ago I applied for a position at Faithful Friends as a Car Caretaker and I really love being there with the cats and I hope one day that I can work there despite the $13.25/hr minimum wage.

One thing I would suggest is never get comfortable at your employer. Treat yourself as your own company all of the time. Don’t do more work than you are getting paid for based on your market value. If they aren’t paying you enough, scale your time to match their pay and then use your free time to work a side hustle or two. Diversify how you make your money as well as how you invest your money. Don’t take options instead of cash or bonuses. Always cash out and invest that money diversely. Unless you are actually one of the founders, their paying you with options is just a way for them to get cheap labor. Your upside is always going to be a tiny fraction of theirs despite the fact that they will be expecting you to work just as hard as them.

Hey Mikee. I’m not sure made “mistakes”, as much as you simply lived life. I’m a designer (print) and I know the creative field always ebbs and flows. I think you are extremely fortunate to have been with the same company for so long. Try to not think of being let go as a failure or ending, think of it as a “completion”. You’ve finished that chapter and now you’ll start your next adventure. At the end of the day a job is just that, a job. They don’t define who we are as an individual or our character. Keep your head up. Good things will come. I’m very excited to see where your path takes you. Hope you continue to make videos about it.

Let me just tell you one very important lesson that I learned in close to being 40 at this point. And that is to really trust the timing of your life…that you are EXACTLY where you’re meant to be. And by that, I mean that you are not yet seeing it now but I assure you 100% that you’ll land in a much better place in your next chapter, whether that be a better career or maybe this channel will take you somewhere far beyond you could imagine. Whatever that may be, just trust the process. Your next beautiful chapter awaits and I can already see and feel it for you! All you need is to TRUST and have faith whether to the universe/God/whatever spiritual side you are. 🙏🏽☺️

I bought a notebook to write notes on different subjects that pop up in my head to find interesting and the title on the front says "trust the timing of your life". The last subject I wrote on was ominous optimism which is where I live often.

just my notes in case somebody wants to use it:
    1. increase growth in my own department. Thinking about planning for job security and the future. Think about skills that you can bring to new employees. Negotiate about a severance package or find another job to put in the table, so when anything happens it can be as a back up.
    2. When you feel stagnant. If they don't increase your salary then move on. Thinking about growth like education, training, etc. so that you don't left behind in case you need to get a new job you don't feel lost meaning you catch up with the current market demand.
    3. Don't be too comfortable in the company, future, and career. Don't think you'll stay in this job forever. It's ok if you feel comfortable but continue to grow.

I'm a new sub that discovered you through a DJII pocket video! I've been through 3 layoffs (in a row) and have finally learned with this last one and especially trusted into this current job market that you should never feel like you need to be loyal to any company, diversify your income and most of all - do not attach your identity to work. You're more than your job. Wishing you all the best and give yourself some grace.

I literally put in my two weeks notice two hours before finding your video. I had worked at the company going on 11 years doing civil engineering, and when my new manager came on board, I was not ready for the amount of stress they would bring along with them. Unfortunately, there was a lot of drama around Christmas resulting in me being blamed and yelled at for the new manager's lack of proper scheduling. After being "in training" for a month trying to get some sort of work, I knew I was being shut out. Even though it was unplanned and sudden, I knew I had to leave for the sake of my mental health and my families well being. Financially, I'm not sure how or what we will do but I'm lucky to have my husband supporting me through this.
Now looking at new job listings, everything you mentioned like the imposter syndrome and fear are resonating with me so much. I was too comfortable and didn't try to improve while I had the chance. Knowing I'm not the only one who had these sort of feelings when it came to losing a job oddly calms my nerves, helps me know I'm not alone, and that my feelings are valid. I hope you are able to heal in your time off and have all the success you desire in any future career opportunities

Am in the same boat, was just made redundant last week Monday.
I thought I'd be staying in my company until retirement.
Today I actually just wanted to give up. Since I don't know what to believe in anymore, this company is one that is well-known in it's field so this really came as a shock for a lot of us. We were promised stability and all that, but what a way to start the new year.
I feel you, and I think you can definitely bag another job! Personally, it helps me just have a schedule to maintain some form of structure. Otherwise, I might end up just staying in bed and wait for life to end. XD

Always keep moving forward! I worked security for about 5years bounced between different places ended up doing TSA for almost 2 years they ended up letting me go because I “falsified” the way I left my last job. I felt defeated because it was good paying and I was almost a lead. After that I started studying for a career in the AV industry while working other shitty security jobs and eventually I landed myself a great job probably the best I’ve had. But it wouldn’t of happened if I didn’t get let go and had something to inspire me to do more for myself. Sometimes we’re pushed out of positions we think we be belong in to fall into positions that we know we deserve/need.

I started looking for jobs last year when we had a change in leadership and felt so behind. At my experience level the expectation is that I should be at a higher level and I was never afforded those growth opportunities at my current company. I honestly should have left early on and moved around to explore other opportunities. One take away for me is that I realized that I don’t love what I do and plan to pivot to something else. I am grateful for my job and the stability it has provided but sometimes we need these whispers or a big push to make us realize what we’re really meant to do. This might sound super cliche, but I have learned through my life that things absolutely do happen for a reason. I know at the moment they happen we don't understand it, nor see the reason why, but as time passes it will become more clear. Go through this with an open heart and kindness toward yourself. As the dust settles clarity will come. Lean into the discomfort and this new found time for introspection and reflection. It sounds strange but allow yourself to grieve and so to say "empty you cup" so new things will be able to fill it back up. You seriously got this. Sending love - A.

I think impostor syndrome is actually caused by peers among you, managers always trying to tell you're not doing your best and colleagues who talk bad behind you back. I got this a lot. It's a trauma it's hard to heal. I also lost my job on Christmas. I had 12 years on the field and it's impossible to find another job. I really think the job market is awful right now. It surely is not like in the past. In the job description now the skills are way more advanced than when I was searching for a job in the past. In my field they want you to know multiple programming languages and they also ask for devops skills. Times have changed and it's not easy to get another job.

Nice video. I’m gonna only add two things:
    1) Have an emergency fund. The moment you start a job start saving it automatically. It could mean 30, 40, 50 or 60 dollars a pay check but only use it for an emergency.
    2) if your layoff package is unfair, you now have money to see a lawyer. (Ie emergency fund!). I know of 2 separate people who each work for their respective companies for over 15 years. Their package was unfair, they each went to a lawyer and both got over 12 months of pay. Had they not saved up an emergency fund, they wouldn’t have gotten their money. They didn’t pay more than $10k for their lawyers services.

I think a lot of us get complacent. I also think a lot of us don't have contracts and, even if you do, I'm not so sure companies would agree to month-for-every-year severance packages. Don't beat yourself up too badly. A lot of us have lost jobs. It feels crummy now but you'll look back one day and see it was just part of your journey.

Sending big hugs!! 🤗 I can totally relate to everything you’re feeling - I was laid off from my job of 9 years last year and I spent most of 2023 being so sad, lost and forgetting my worth. Some things that helped me were 1. Getting on unemployment 2. Remembering money can come to me in many ways and I can always pay off any credit card debt super quickly - like it will all be okay and the money will come, it’s safe for me to still live and buy stuff because this won’t last forever 3. Putting energy into my CZcams channel and candle business while still applying for jobs. Give yourself time to process, grieve and finally relax - time feels so different when you no longer have a job - enjoy this adjustment! I have a friend who is making more than enough to pay all her bills from CZcams so it is possible and can be more than coffee money. Love up on yourself right now and take your time. This is temporary and whatever that’s going to be next for you will be better than you could have ever imagined! Blessings come to us in mysterious ways 💫 you got this!!

Howdy! I work in tech, which is typically lucrative, but the economy is terrible right now, so everyone is losing their jobs. Businesses are lowkey freaking out and products and services are shuttering left and right. But remember, this is temporary and you're a savvy creative who will find a way to make it work.
Do not take it personal that you were laid off. There's nothing you could've done to prevent it. The fact that you lasted 18 years at your gig is unprecedented in this era of careers. That's very rare. Take your time to grieve. Feel everything in the moment, don't rush to be happy and self-medicate. Otherwise, the sadness will manifest into bitterness later. You will heal.
It's common to feel down or imposter syndrome or low confidence after a situation like this, especially for creatives. But you didn't do anything wrong. Businesses tend to undervalue creative disciplines when it's in trouble.
It was purely a business decision that you were laid off. *The business failed you,* not the other way around.

The company I worked for, for 19 years decided to close their doors. They were a family-owned company that was open for 50 years. I know how you feel, because I knew I should have left years before, but I was comfortable and familiar with my job, so why would I leave. But just like you when it happened, I didn't have enough experience for what was going on around me. So, I was forced to go into a very different kind of job. Hey Mikee ....I just found your channel. First, let me say, thank you for posting this incredibly vulnerable video. I actually was feeling a bit nauseated listening to it because it sounded like you were telling a version of my own story. Clearly a sign of some sort. I recently lost my job in 2022 due to the same reason. I teach in healthcare and the school ended up closing due to being unable to come back from the pandemic and low student enrollment. I resonate with EVERYTHING you said.
Second, the BEST thing that I could possibly offer is that your message reached ME and soo many others! This video actually made me feel validated. My wife is working in job that she is excellent in but actually hates the politics of it. So, while she is bringing home the money, I am feeling unworthy, not doing my part, etc. I have gone on tons of interviews and always the same response of being over qualified or going through such a mental masturbation of an interview that I would realize that the company or school and I were clearly not a good match. I am in a bardo of sorts, an in-between of WTF do I do now?? Didn't plan on being without a job for this long. I have recently started an LLC to start teaching on my own. While I am confident in my teaching ability and skills, I still feel vulnerable and wanting to throw up.
Finally, I must tell you that YOU, MIKEE ROGERS, have inspired me! I needed to see and hear your voice in this moment. Thank you for sharing yourself, Donnie and your vulnerability here on You Tube. YOU DO HAVE THIS!! I am deeply grateful. KEEP GOING! Perhaps, I will even start a You Tube channel too. You are very talented, and any place would be lucky to have you working for or with them.

Thanks Darcy 🥹🫶🏼 - I think that's what hurts the most, I loved working for this company but again, I knew it wasn't forever. Time to put my big boy pants on 😭 but maybe just another week of feeling sorry for myself 😂

living through your job is the worst thing you can do, jobs are temporary, good times are temporary...i quit my dream job years ago at HP and could see the ship sinking, was done with the place and mgmt.

Few things I learned a decade later were:
1- continue investing in your education and upskill. Don't wait for the company to send you to training because even if they say so, you may never go. And if they do send you, at one point they will make you feel indebted to them.
2- Work in the office , work on your personal projects at home, don't spend time to do office work at home while you could use those time to learn something.
3- People at your workplace are not your friends.
4- Keep your future plan to yourself, don't tell anyone
    5- Always have a plan B
6- Always have a saving to fall on in case you lose your job or you want to quit

Great video man. In a similar position except I was self-employed for that many years. The same thing, COVID ruined my online business. Gotta stay strong and roll with the punches.

Awww mikee I don’t know if to feel sad or happy for you because I know strongly that , this situation is about to turn around for your good. Of course don’t see it in the beginning because of how lost and hurtful we feel. Come on 18 years on something you and your team build from ground up could be considered your baby so I truly understand. But my little unsolicited advice is to look to the future ahead after you have grieved just a little bit not much because you will be so much happy , you will thank the gods your job failed at the time . There’s something so special about you when I found you I had to stay here , your calmness, your worth ethics I don’t know you definitely have got this . Also thanks to hubby for being supportive. ❤
