Facts! Chinese never call it Happy Chinese New Year, but only Happy New Year or Happy Spring Festival. It's the western call it Chinese New Year or Lunar New Year.
Another Eastern culture calls it Chinese New year tho coz we got our own new year that isn't the Western new year and so Chinese New year gotta have a descriptor in front 😅😅😅
It’s definitely Chinese New Year , because it's based on the Chinese calendar. CNY always happens in winter. Technically, Lunar New Year is the wrong term to say because the real Lunar New Year actually happens in summer. For those of you who say Chinese New Year is not inclusive and Lunar New Year is better, you really should respect culture origin. I assume British wouldn't want people to call English as "International language" and Koreans wouldn't want people to call Kpop as "Asian Pop", right? It’s ok China share it. In the world we share things but we should respect the source of it.
I lived in China for a few years as well and over there they call it spring festival. They don't even call it Chinese New Year's That's only an American term like fortune cookies
I don't think Korea celebrates it the same way I mean I'm sure they celebrate it because China's sort of is the big dog in that region of the world. But for example Vietnam has their own lunar New Year and of course they don't call it Chinese New Year in Vietnam. So maybe other countries that do celebrate a lunar New Year would be good to ask about this. Most people don't know that Vietnam has their own version of this
When the Chinese came to Korea they brought their culture, and the Koreans address it as Chinese. It’s more likely because mostly of what you see in Korean and Japanese culture, language, and genetics is chinese. That’s also why it’s sometimes hard to tell the difference between the three East Asians is because of the Chinese blood, culture, and language influences
And I believe your point is more towards language such as example in Korean language the word for Chinese is “wainome” u get the point, the Chinese founded the lunar new year first and spread it along all other Asian countries so they all call it Chinese new year but not in the English version in which we say but rather in their own language.
Its Chinese New Year. China exported the tradition to other asian countries around it. Its not even a controversial opinion, it's just facts. I can't believe I had to have a debate with a friend about this
Lunar new year since I'm vietnamese and we celebrate Tết (celebration of the new year based off the lunar/moon calendar). Fun fact: if you're a rabbit in chinese zodiac, you'll be a cat in vietnamese zodiac.
The correct term is Lunar New Year because it’s celebrated according to the lunar calendar. A lot of Asian countries celebrate Lunar New Year with festivals and cultural significant stuff in their own way. The reason the wording Chinese New Year has gotten popular is because of how big the celebrations is in China (big country with huge population) and especially overseas in countries like the US because of huge Chinese immigration presence.
Not true. Chinese new years follows the Chinese calendar. All other eastern Asian countries have been adapting the Chinese new years into their own culture and call it what they want to. This based on facts.
As a small boy, I was taught to say "Kung hei fat choi" by the family from my local take-away. And where I grew up doesn't even have a huge Chinese population. But it takes nothing to learn about somebody else's culture. Zhì quan zhongguo... xinnian kuaile. ❤
I agree. I never say happy CNY to my parents friends. 😂😂😂😂 Also I had a landlord that was American Indian and they also celebrate lunar new years due to the lunar calendar. Buttttt most people forget about that group altogether unfortunately
The thing is, Chinese New Year isn’t the only lunar new year. (and I’m not referring to the surrounding countries who have adopted Chinese New Year and call it by their own names - Tet, Seollal, etc)

If it was lunar it would have been celebrated In summer instead. Also the festival and calendar for CNY are all originating in China
@@lujixcjml wtf is celebrated in summer? What calendar u looking at? Lunar Calendar shows this year is Feb 10. Next year is January 29th
Not true. Chinese new years follows the Chinese calendar. All other eastern Asian countries have been adapting the Chinese new years into their own culture and call it what they want to. This based on facts.
I never heard of lunar til this few years. The reason why other Asian country celebrate it because they follow the Chinese calendar in past.
