One of the most underrated hardcore bands from back in the day!!!
How do you figure? We Walked hundreds of miles to see GI play back in the 80's
And that sir is a one of the biggest understatements ever
agreed
when you do a repress of records ----- think its not an underrated record
The guitar tone on this record is crushing. Love it. One of the best records of my youth. These guys could've easily morphed into a metal band. I'm glad they kept it raw.
I always loved Tom Lyle's tone and the way the band evolved over the years.
It's pre crossover
Tom Lyle has a very distinct style. Well put. His influence on the music was and still is felt. Way more talented and mindful than any band of government issue's roots and scene needed for the price of admission
Tom Lyle rocked. Period.
Epic work
Rest in peace John Stabb
Saw them in 89. Epic show.
Has always been one of my favorites.
Fuck Cancer.
This is an awesome album.
Thank you for your condolences. Peace smile
Along with Minor Threat, The Misfits and The Adolescents, GI were the best of the 'scene'. John left us too early so we'll all have to meet on the other side of the door to have the gig to end all gigs.
I was 99% into thrash & other forms of metal when I came upon this album. A couple weeks previous someone had dragged me to a Black Flag gig so I did have some punk rock hooks in me. But when I heard Joy Ride (one of my first hardcore albums) I was in shock at how heavy it was & how much I loved it! My metal friends got tired of me playing this so much. A couple years later I got to see GI live. Still one of my favorite albums & bands of all time.
One of my favorite Hardcore/Punk albums !!
My favorite hardcore riffs ever! Was an inspiration in every band I played in over the years.
And to think, right out of DC. We Washingtonians will never, ever forget our boy John. The best Punk in the biz.
R.I.P. John Stabb.
This is a great record! Tom Lyle only ended up in the band by offering to step in to play bass as Brian Baker wanted to go off and see FEAR, Halloween 1981. The planets must have aligned that weekend
RIP John Stabb!!!!! X
I still have this and 2 other GI Albums on vinyl.
buy it off of ya
Rest in peace my friend. I will miss your wisdom and your wit!
I saw GI three times, including their farewell show in June 1989. Always loved their music and Alberstadt’s drumming was some of my favorite growing up.
one of the Greatest hardcore LPs to ever exist
I agree.
Ordered this in the mail like maybe 1988 awesome navy blue and yellow wax. Sold it but was feeling nostalgic tonight. Great album.
john was so cool loved that old rockville guy
Still my favorite GI album, when this came out I was stunned at how heavy it was. I had everything they released up to then at the time, including some live stuff and demos from the Boycott Stabb sessions, but Joyride just absolutely killed it. I still love that early stuff, and from what I hear, there's one more good album after Joyride before they took on a more pop-ish sensibility, which I didn't care much for but that doesn't matter a lick anyway, so long as they were happy with it, that's all that matters. Anyway, thank you for posting this masterpiece of American Hardcore. RIP John Staab.
The albums after joyride are good, less heavy.
i agree this album got me through age 17 back in 83-84.. Saw them at cb's each time they played from 83 to 86.. last time i saw them was 86 at a rock hotel gig. Rest in peace John.
Got this a few weeks ago on vinyl
The sound of my youth.
It’s worth listening to the End On End podcast where GI's guitarist Tom Lyle is interviewed about this record- the guitar sound , the cover art and so on.
great great album
Some of the best live punk shows ever!
Hell yes!!! Saw them live and when the drummer got on stage to warm up I was blown the fuck away!!! That dude played drums like I’ve never seen or heard before. IT WAS AMAZING
Fuck! Did not know John had died. What an amazing talent!! I'm sending my love up to you buddy until we meet on the other side
this album gets better every minute ...
One of the best ever....
john stabb, it was an honor to meet you
OH YEA LOUDER!
one of the best live bands
I saw them live and the drummer was insane!!!! Played like no ldrummer I’d ever seen before.
I wrecked many a urethane wheel back in the day skating to this!
Seenitall FSU I think at Fenders or I dont know but this is great music. Left right best times ever. For real I seen so many sick shows in LA AND OC. And it's still music to do something wrong. No peace..1981to 2021.
When this came out i had it on repeat for a good year solid
R.I.P. John Stabb
My brother got me the vinyl version of this album for Christmas in 1985 (1985 is not a typo). It blew me away and I still think it’s in a class all its own.
epic lp ,,, John Stabb rip
One of my first punk albums!
Saw them a few times at cbgbs 85/86 so awesome
Crucial
GI playing Sunday shows at the Hung Jury Pub was the best! Can anyone relate?
Saw them in 86 or 87 in Va. at a skate contest. Was awesome. Worked my way up to the stage, climbed up onto the speakers and watched the show!!! Almost got the set list.
It was at the Cedar Crest County Club….that ramp was awesome
R.I.P John Staab
Thank you
I seen them at Club Dreamerz on Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago. The show was stupid intense.
Yes!!!with SoulSide. That is one of my all time favorite shows..with the L running 10 feet from the fire exit

Dischord bands had the best guitar tone.
True
Discone! :-)
saw them open for the Ramones at the bayou in Georgetown .
Dear God its soo good
Loudest band in hardcore.
Rip
It sounds like 4-Wall Hermit influenced the Cro-Mags track By Myself. It has a very similar sound and feel. Maybe just pure coincidence...
Both of them are heavily influenced by Discharge.
Epic
Boy Tom Lyle could play saw them in Liverpool 1986
DC-HC ALL Stars!!
They got banned from my school lol
Epic hardcore. Go Skate.
listening on broken headphones
Makes it sound better
Are you sure?
Saw them in Zürich long long ago.
for me this is the the GI lp rip john
still amazes me, this is not the original tracklist on joyride though
Respect - loud is us - louder is still us - fuck cancer - louder still!
I think that straight edge hc punk needs a new breath of life. Break the stereo type retoric. Because I tried to hang with the straight edge kids, n they didn't know what being on parole or on program was. They thought I was on speed meth. And started giving me the speel. I grew up on the street and am well aware of the dangers of every drug. Coz I've used big amounts of drugs. Being a punk rocker in a band n shit. And my age too. I felt X-cluded. I felt X-ed out. And then the other punx laugh at me when I say I've gone SxE n shit. And then I hear of violence towards kids who want to get waisted. It's a personal thing I think. Preaching never works. And living by example does. It speaks the loudest. Anyway, food for thought here
!!!!!
Hey my Record version had puppet on a string studio, but not from BCS it was recorded same time as the other tracks on joy ride. Wonder why did they pull it .. It was a Great Version, slower heavier..
Needs REMIX NOW - bring up the vocals!
🙋
XOXO
Nothin sounds as good as hardcore nothin. Jesus saves
Makes me sad. They deserved stardom. They got shit. But i adore them.
this is the GI lp to have. later on they became rockish average rockish band
Nothing average at all. Those last albums are all fantastic.
the self titled, You & Crash are amazing.I love how they sounded kinda like The Damned on You. i liked the evolution@@MDK2_Radio
I love later albums, but this one and "The fun just never ends" are the perfect balance between melody and aggression. In my opinion these two are their peak
Who are the 9 idiots that gave this thumbs down?
Does anyone remember what gi song ends with John saying Buttfuck!?
