Raga Sawani

RAGA: SAWANI: This is one of the most difficult ragas associated with the second quarter of the night. It has
a striking resemblance with the popular raga Bihag and it is a favourite melody of exponents of the Atrauli-
Jaipur gharana.
The artiste first renders a “vilambit” composition set to “jhaptaal” (10 “matras”), followed by a “drut bandish”
in “teentaal” (16 “matras”).
