I grew up in Bridgepool close and trust me none of them houses are worth a penny and the neighbours will make sure you have nothing left in your house when you go out

Brought back memories of looking at houses for sale. Amazing walking down a well cared for street and the next street could be in decline. Eventually settled in Bishop Auckland.

That derelict pub you're looking at at the bottom of Park Road next door to Barclays was called Paradise Alley back in the day....
Fifth Avenue is located on Lucan Street further round , off york rd ....
And the reason Cornwall Street and Harrow Street and all of them side streets are boarded up is because that is the rough area of the town since the council came out with the three strikes and you don't live in your council house no more so private landlords put them in there and they have destroyed the place 30 years ago that area was the place to be and owton manor Hartlepools biggest council house estate was a no go area but now it's the other way around it is now a good area because all the riff raff have moved out ,being kicked (evicted) out by the new Councils law like Everett Street used to be a good street but no longer because the house prices were cheap enough for landlords to buy and put benefit people in because they're guaranteed their rent where as people working might have a bad week so they will not pay the rent put people on benefits get it automatically paid direct to the landlord🤔🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

@@Madsoutandabout when yous were walking down the road with big houses near the town centre I'm sure it was Clifton avenue my auntie back in 1986 bought a big house there and turned it into a nursing home as a child I would spend the summer holidays playing in the house before it was converted into a nursing home. Great memories

I'm from hartlepool, moved away 12 years ago. fifth avenue became 'bar odessa' and finally 'club attitude' (gay bar). The gemini became 'buzz and zoom' before it closed it's doors. The Gemini was the dodgy nightclub and the upperclass nightclub was above 'bogarts' (heavens above?) and it cost £5 to get in which prevented the riff raff getting in

There was also caesars Palace (massive dodgy nightclub on raby road-formerly an odeon cinema) with Joe pools bar beneath it. Its staggering to think how many clubs there were and how they've disappeared. Why??? Is it purely the cost of living??? People consume way more alcohol these days too.

hartlepool has struggled since the 1960s due to it's location and in some part the poor decisions made by the local council in relation to town planning and redevelopments etc. In more recent years the town has suffered in exactly the same way as other small towns cos of the cost of living and online shopping. There hasn't been any major employers in hartlepool since the 1960s (with the exception of 'Garlands call centres' in the early 2000s located in the marina but that only stayed open for a few years. garlands closed when Vodafone took it's services to India.

I was in Hartlepool today for the first time looking for an affordable house with a budget of £45000 (I only have a £5000 deposit) and I was looking at houses in the TS25 postcode and I kept seeing this graffiti on all these streets "John Simpson grass". When I saw that graffiti on this video I was in stitches of laughter. I just hope John Simpson didn't get beaten to a pulp. But on a serious note, I am dreading moving to this area, but sadly I can't find anything within my budget elsewhere. I'm dreading moving into an area that looks set to become a ghost town. In Horden, there are similar houses (11 streets in total) where owners are having their houses seized by the council under the Compulsory Purchase Order Act and the money they're given will not pay for another house. I'm dreading this happening to me in Hartlepool.

Thanks, mate! Unfortunately, I'm constrained by my shitty budget, so it looks like I'm compelled to live in this ghost town. I really hope that Hartlepool gets the regeneration it urgently needs and puts an end to these hideous boarded-up houses. I hope it doesn't end up like Horden.@@Madsoutandabout

    • @ryokan9120

Hi, in the end, I didn't move to Hartlepool. Since then, I've had an offer accepted on a house in Sunderland, but there is a danger of that falling through, because the surveyor found some structural problems which could be very costly in the future. I've sent a structural engineer to write a report and the costs of fixing these problems. If the costs are high and the vendor isn't willing to negotiate a lower price, then I might have to start house-hunting again, though this time I might have to look at Peterlee or Hartlepool because of my low budget. It's a shame really because I definitely prefer Sunderland, but the prices are definitely higher there.@@MeowsyDancer

@@ryokan9120 Many of the small towns in County Durham like Wingate, Station Town, Shotton, Haswell(s), Hesledon(s) etc seem to still be populated by good people with a community spirit, and I imagine they've a cheap cost of living.
