  • @Mista808

The *REASON* the simpler 808 is better is because a vocalist needs the freedom to be able to write to the instrumental however they'd wish,
rather than the instrumental dictating how the the vocalist needs to write their lyrics. I'm a songwriter and the simpler version allowed for way
more inspiration and freedom to write than the more complex version of the 808 allowed for. The complex one would be better if you were to
release the song as an instrumental only. It's not to say I couldn't still write to the more complex version, because I easily could! It's just much
easier when the 808 isn't going off non stop. The dead air in between the 808's on the simpler version is a GREAT WAY for a lyricist to get real
witty with punch lines, swag etc.

Man I'm really confused at this point. Some say boost it up to the red zone and throw a soft clipper on master and then adjust the EQ after that. That's how I do mine so i get the Enrgy/Southside type of punch. Some say put the 808 bellow -9db, others -15db... It would be great if pro engineers an people who mix tracks showed us how to do things properly sometime..
