Age gaps don't matter when you are grown as you are both grown, when you are in that teen range there is so much change mentally and physically, especially hormonally, in such a short amount of time that a single year can make a massive difference. Not just in the you've lived less so its a larger percentage of your lifespan but that growth during that time. Like mentally and physically there is a huge difference between 13 and 16 but next to nothing between 33 and 36.

Maybe that's why I never cared about age gaps, or age as a whole, even when I was that age (12). I haven't changed since then. I never felt the need to. Sure, I'm more stressed and depressed because I've been through a lot more shit since then, but I have the same personality, same beliefs, same morals, and same goals/desires/needs that I had when I was that age, and even younger. I never understood why everyone at school was changing (for the worse) when we were around 12/13, but I never did.
