Once you sink the 2-slot ship, you can then start firing every 2 slots instead of 1. Once you find the submarine and destroyer, you can go every 3 slots. Carrier, four.

A brilliant tactic. Since the rules say ships are not allowed to touch each other, he will not aim for the ships directly next to the sunk ones.

Just won 3 times in a row with my girlfriend and I would make a big x across the board then depending on what ships I sunk from that pattern, start filling in quadrants based on the size of ships left, very effective
Thanks now I will use strategy 1 and two with yours.
Important part is that the checker strategy depends solely on the size of the smallest ship. Assuming you sunk all the ships of size 2 or there is none in the game you play, changes the perfect strategy completely.

I usually just listen for changes in voice pitch or stutters from the other player. After a while, you’ll notice a pattern of reactions and know if you’re close to their ship or not based on their response to your attack.

usually i play the checkerboard tactic until i think i found all the ships, just to get an asamble view of the positions and the player's thinking. if they are kinda spaced out then that means i will look for normal straight shapes( meaning the ships are likely to not be next to eachother). if they are close ish then i look for strange shapes.

I think you always should destroy a ship as soon as you found it. Destroying the smallest ships allows you to improve a lot on your strategy.
with the checkerboarding technique i usually don't fire around the outside edges because from all the games I've seen, people are super reluctant to put their ships there

I’ve always been doing the checkerboard strategy and I always win using it but those single space ships are annoying
Wow. I’ve been playing battleship like this since I was 12.
Random firing pattern in a checkerboard.
Grouping shots to sink ships.
Placing my ships on the corners and edges to make it less probable they’d be hit.
One other thing though... the little destroyer/patrol boat (two hits) is often the key to winning the game. It’s the one most likely to survive the longest without being detected. It always goes in a corner or lower edge.

I mean that probably works the first time but if you always place them in the same manner than you just become predictable and it's much easier for the opponent to hit the ships since you always place them on the corner or edge. Placing a ship in the edge is also super bad because there's only 2 possible ways the ship can go when compared to having it in the middle making it more likely that the opponent is going to be able sink the ship without any misses.
I would not put it directly in the corner. Like. Just one row above. So that there is free space around. Just to confuse even more

I actually came up with a strategy that consequently clears up space on the board. The basis is of course again checkerboard, but you create a square in the center made off 4×5 diagonal lines. Then you cut off the edges with diagonals of the same length, which of course parallel the center square. By doing that, you not only clear up singular slots, but you can make assumptions on where to find 5er, 4er et c. If you keep on building up the 'crystal', as I call it, and you still haven't uncovered all the 5 ships, you will be able to close up all the sections of the board.
This is nice because as soon as you have sunk the 2er, you can switch the checkerboard color. You will then need far less shots to find all the other ships.
Not bad, should talk about layout strategies and their probability of winning if someone uses those methods. Some people place all or some ships together and others never place a ship on the center.
This assumes a random placement of ships. You're asking for psychology.
I found using US Army call for fire strategy works best for me and win almost every time. It works for the battlefield placement which is the same strategy used in this game. Minus distance but fire for effect guaranteed.

You missed a key component of winning: Defensive strategy
I would try to place my Ships in the Corners but not the actual Corners because more players usually shoot at the Corners.
This is like reverse reverse psychology
what about multiple games against your opponent? their ship placement will not match what you have shown, unless they place their ships at random. they will use data from previous games about both ship placement and targets.
What I often do is go diagonally down the board until I hit something and then eventually the spaces are limited

The only problem I can think of with this strategy is that if your opponent put a small ship in the corner, it would take you a while to find it, as the corner is one of the least likely places for a ship to be. This would work well against randomly placed ships though.

Just move your ship to free area when someone makes a hit then say "miss" keep moving ships until there is no more free space

The PDF equation is missing the size and position parameters, which once added, it will render more accurate predictions. Plus, the human factor. I think that an AI training will produce more effective strategies.

The rules on mine says not to put ships touching each other
Strategy is good for normal battleship but sea battle the iPhone pigeon game - the single ships only take 1 space so it really doesn’t account for them, I guess there’s no real way to predict them.

No why would you start randomly shooting around a ship when you hit it once? Just legit go on about the checker boarding and you will hit the next part of the ship either in that row or the next row so that way you're legit not wasting any moves
Shooting every second square is a bad strategy to start with. It's better to shoot every other black or white square, so that you potentially hit a two or three square ship without having to cover half the board.
Actually we have a Science activity and my sir said battleship and explained so I knew what it is
I have started playing battleship from an App. It has been a long time since I last played it, but I kept going until its rules and what to do came back slowly. Of course, that was not enough and I ended up landing on your channel, which I liked. One question though, is there any better way to find the two square ship(I don't remember its name)? I feel so frustrating and hard trying to find it!! Please, any specific idea for this horrible little ship? Thanks.
Unfortunately, due to the nature of the game, the two square ship (called the submarine) is always going to be hard to find. One technique is to try to find patterns in the opponent's ships. People tend to spread their ships out and have a couple vertically oriented, and a couple horizontally oriented. If you have already sunk a few vertical ships, look where there are big horizontal openings and aim there. Also as you play an opponent more and more times, try to figure out if they place their submarine similarly between games.
I might make a video in the future on this topic. My plan is to collect data on where people like to put their ships and see if I can find common trends with locations.

Very simple
A more dynamic approach is possible
Once the size two ship is sunk you can switch from a two color checker board to a three color
The shorter ships are worth more early in because once they are sunk you can adjust your search pattern
