    Even the drive/ride to the cabin is gorgeous looking.
    I remember back in the day when we used to do donuts in the snow filled parking lots we would use an old bumper jack to get unstuck. That wind did not help you any.

      While I think the apache tracks would have helped we still would have gotten stuck because I am a idiot and that was 8 foot deep drift that had not set up yet.

      How did you get yourself unstuck

    • @mickmouse92
      @mickmouse92 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @BackcountryLife I was able to winch to a tree that was RIGHT on the verge of being too far. Not straight either, about 30 degree or so. The winch was stalling but had enough tension to nudge me as I put my commander in gear. I at first anchored to a 3ft diameter 10ft log but it started moving...

    • @BackcountryLife
      @BackcountryLife  Před 3 měsíci

      @@mickmouse92 Oh nice, whenever we cannot find a tree we now just dig a snow anchor.

    • @mickmouse92
      @mickmouse92 Před 3 měsíci

      @BackcountryLife I never done one. I know they can hold alot but like I said, I first tried a huge log as an anchor. It was even down a 45 degree slope. Must of easily been 1,500lbs or more. It started coming up the hill instead of the machine moving. My 5K winch even started to hesitate.
      The same area just got more people stuck this weekend- they were asking for help on FB. One said while winching, their wheel cracked off. I'd say there was no shovels available...

    A piece of advice to anyone with tracks. Do NOT spin the tracks. Stop and back up and hit it again. We call it battle ramming. I have a kawi mule pro that is gutless as hell but will go anywhere in 4’ of powder. Just stop at the first sign of track spin, back up and hit it again! Once those things are stuck it’s a real project to dig them out if the winch won’t reach anything

  • @DC08SI
    @DC08SI Před 6 měsíci

    The tracks are not designed to go backwards without digging in. Pulling forwards with the snowmobile or winch is the way to go. Pack an area for the tracks to walk up onto, then pull forward. No different than a snowmobile. Going backwards in reverse just digs you in further. Have fun!

    The front and rear lockers on the XMR version are amazing, I will never understand why this is not standard on a Limited version. Seeing where you live, you would do well to sell those tracks and upgrade to the backcountries. Also, you seem to be leaving the road in the white out conditions, might want to think about statically placed markers for next winter. I live on an acreage and these help tremendously throughout the winter when plowing in those types of conditions. I also have a 20 inch track on my expedition extreme ski doo, in low gear it can definitely pull a ton.

    • @BackcountryLife
      @BackcountryLife  Před rokem

      I agree, they should have front lockers on the limited its really dumb. Yeah a powder track would help for sure but to be honest we actually do pretty good with the CAMSO 4S1 tracks. This was a freak storm that brought in almost 4 feet of really really light snow that became huge drifts. Having markers is a good idea. So far this winter driving into the cabin we haven't gotten stuck once. Maybe we just know where to go now haha. We also spend more time grooming the trails with our snow groomer which is a game changer. How do you like your expedition extreme? We have a 20in Skandic for towing our groomers around but have been dreaming of the more power and better suspension you get on the expeditions.

    • @BackcountryLife
      @BackcountryLife  Před 2 lety

      For sure. Glad we got out of there. Yeah the snow groomer does a good job at packing things down. In fact we groomed a trail for the 2nd time but ended going off the groomed trail the 2nd time and got stuck even worse. Having a plow to level the trail and also a snow groomer to compact it really is the best way. The snow was SOO light that we should have taken more time to knock it down.

    Every job has its own tool, snowmobile for snow, side by side for the road. I was wondering how well they work in the snow. Question answered. Looks like a good way to fuck a trail up for those who ride behind.

    • @BackcountryLife
      @BackcountryLife  Před 2 lety

      I actually agree, the side x side with tracks is pretty impressive but we should have waited until the snow was a little more settled. The second stuck was off the trail and a bad call on my part. We actually go back and groom the trail so there are zero ruts in the trail and all of this is on private property. It also snowed another 3 feet and filled in all the holes we made.

    • @Dan-qt7kq
      @Dan-qt7kq Před 2 lety +1

      @@BackcountryLife I read that back what I said, sounded ignorant but wasn’t meant to be. I live with tons snow and my can am being so comfy was wondering about tracks, so your saying way better on a bit of a snow pack, not so much powder. I’d be worried too about getting stuck between trees.

    • @BackcountryLife
      @BackcountryLife  Před 2 lety +1

      @@Dan-qt7kq yeah our cabin gets around 400 inches a year and we went right after a huge storm and the snow was too soft. Typically we can push through 3 feet of snow with no problem but when the drift ends up being 6 feet it's tough. The next day the snow was way more setup and it was much better floatation. Its no snowcat but it does better than I always think it will. A smaller rig will have better floatation as well. Our Honda Pioneer 1000 with tracks floats better than the MAX limited.

      Staying on the trail would have helped instead of me being an idiot and driving into a 7ft drift of camber!
