QUICK NOTE: I mentioned the one hand rule for all those new to electricity, or, those unsure about what part of this coil may be safe to touch. Ironically, I used two hands right away. I did this only for cinematic effect - I do not recommend using two hands, ever, unless you are very familiar with your device (like I was). One hand rule at all times, I just did it for effect!
Lol yeah that was funny
thank you
Tiny coil can’t hurt Jay after all years he work with high voltage
Talking bout your Ebook. The matter we don't see is space it self. Dig into superfluid you'll understand what I mean.
How you could possibly know you'd be in a soup of superfluid if you were in it? It act like a vaccuum yet it's not. Starting to connect the dots yet?
The speed of light is constant as long as it travel through a constant matter.
Sir at your flyback transformer vedio can i use a diffrent tranzistor?
The best thing about your videos is that they are very neat and clean.this makes the project really easy and beautiful 👌.
I have already begun a design of my smallest Tesla coil I've ever built, I believe Jay has see it, it will be an audio modulated version of this coil here except about 1/4 of the size. It will use an external driver for high power usage but with an integrated driver (Full Bridge for the external and Integrated drivers) that's in the base similar to his. I absolutely love the quality and effort put in to not only your high voltage work to make it amazing in appearance but also the quality of your videos!
Wow that's beautiful! You are a master with acrylic. You've definitely gotten me hooked on brass hardware. Can't wait to try this build. I still have some of those capacitors from the 3 volt Tesla coil project. Thanks for making this video Jay.
Hey Nigel, you're quickly becoming my most reliable commenter! Thanks, I am glad you enjoyed the video. Acrylic can really be a pain to work with sometimes. Even when you're gluing the edges, they can experience "crazing", which is chemically induced cracking. I got lucky and didnt have much of it. You can use the capacitors from the 3 volt coil, however, you'll need many more of them in parallel since the caps from that build are lower capacitance. Try to find the 10nf (0.01uF), 3kv polyproylene caps on mouser. Also, I had occasional sparking between the primary and secondary coil when using it on medium or high power. To solve this, wrap thick plastic between the two coils (try not to scratch the secondary windings when doing so).
Cheers!
I'm always excited to see them as soon as you release them. Thanks for making them available early through patreon. (I'm not happy with patreon - there's a glitch they refuse to fix.)
The presenter is my hero, for the video editing skills.
I get the science intuitively, but could never present it as nice. He's got skills I don't!
Hey Jonas, that's a really nice of you to say. Welcome to my channel!
I really love the look of this! As to acrylic cracking, I've done a lot of work with acrylic when building my pink and clear guitar, and from that, if you use a stepper drill bit, it will have a much nicer hole, and it won't be so prone to cracking :D (Best to still have a very small pilot, but for bigger holes, it's very nice to have (the drill bit)

I wanted to comment the EXACT same thing 😂
As Danny DeVito said: "Suicide is badass!"
You beat me to the punch! I intended to pin a top comment with a warning about that. Great on you for noticing mate.
@@PlasmaChannel Please be safe!
The perfection and neatness of the video content takes this video to next level...
I've seen lot of Tesla Coil videos in CZcams but nowhere I found this much of perfection
Thank you. I try to make my videos as professionaly as possible!
Oh no! Damn gravity! Beautiful coil Jay, I loved the sounds it made. Great video, inspiring as always. Thank you.
Thank you so much. I'm glad you liked the build
That's the result of mixing art and science!
I've always considered science a weird form of Art
Amazing video as always. That was a beautiful coil build and even more amazing was the fact that it gets 3'' arcs from just 35 watts of power.
Thanks M.S. Yeah, I was really pleased with the result. I took my time calculating the resonant frequencies prior to building, and I think it paid off. I wish I designed the secondary/primary spacing a bit more safely though - I occasionally get sparks between the two coils.
@@PlasmaChannel I got to thinking about it the spark gap could be slightly improved with one sharp electrode to reduce breakdown voltage and increase efficiency (i.e. box razor, piece of hacksaw blade.) I would also try to reduce primary inductance a bit and make up for resonance with the cap bank. Nonetheless this is one of the most quality homebrew sets I have ever seen.
I appreciate every build on Plasma Channel Thankyou so much!!!
I'm glad you enjoyed the viddy!
These videos are so inspiring! I love watching these videos especially because Im doing a mini tesla coil for a science project and I've been watching some of your tesla coil videos to get ideas of how I could make it. Love the videos!!
Thank you so much! Really nice of you.
Another beautiful build! Thank you!
"Long haired heathen" I laughed out loud for real when you said that!

@@PlasmaChannel I just love the description! And the idea that you're a 'heathen' for using the tools at your disposal to do something that is more 'properly' done with more specialized, expensive tools. If that is the case, most of us makers are heathens, lol!
Whats up Jay! Man you are one classy individual. Thanks for inspiring creativity! I spent my morning watching fractals through my new Quest 2 and learning about Mandelbrot and how he measured the coast of Breat Britain.
Glad you enjoyed. I try my best!
Thanks Jay for making this it looks absolutely amazing.
You are welcome. Thank you for watching, and taking the time to compliment my work.
Love your grounding. The same concepts can be applied to receive remote power. It's the basis that Tesla was working with when he wanted to charge things remotely. Wide plate for grounding and an antenna on the other end. As a charge seeks to establish equilibrium on the larger plate there is going to be a little back and forth with the coil and remote electric source.
Counterpoises are the best. Using actual grounding sucks. I will believe in counterpoises till the day I die. they allow for convenience and portability.
@@PlasmaChannel if you ever get the itch, check out the pictish symbol of the double disk and Z rod. :)
Great build video, Jay, plenty of detail stylishly presented 😍👍
Thanks Grandad! I love seeing you comments on all my videos recently. Always nice seeing a familiar face! I love that acrylic...it just looks so good!
thanks you so much for showing how beautiful can be a power in wright hands with loving in creation!
another thing. the oscillation is made by the feedback coil. then the 3055 saturate and become conductive to ground the primary coil. I think that the circuit can be change not using the feedback coil at all,... or perhaps in a more complex project can be used as a zero crossing sensor. Once you have a variable oscillator you can experiment the coil behavior,... which would be interesting.
Once you have some awesome freqs, you can modulate the amplitude with an amplifier, or perhaps a pwm to make a FM device... yes you can put some sound on the coil.
I want to thank you for this channel which is an inspiration.
Wow, it's beautiful, sir.I loved the electricity from you😊🌹
Thanks a lot
Beautiful build! Glad to see you uploading and I'm glad that the thumbnail matched the video as we've talked about. Best of luck to you in your youtube career, I think you'll make it really big :)

@@PlasmaChannel Yes I certainly do. I just checked to make sure
I had obtained a 6"OD acrylic tube I was going to use in my last TC project. As well as a circular base measuring 4' wide by 1" thick. Had custom tuning slots CNC'ed into the base as well. I wound the secondary with 22AWG perfectly.
It never materialized. Wound up becoming disabled, and lost the 'farm'. But one day, I'm getting it back!!
Coin, that is amazingly huge. 4 feet across...would house some pretty serious electronics.
@@PlasmaChannel I had a shed, that wound up being my own little lab. My old webwork is still mirrored by a friend. If you'd like, I can give you the address.

it is so nice.
Very clever spark gap system
thanks Ryan. Simplicity is key. I hate complex designs, personally. Also why I prefer spark gap coils, over solid state.

Absolute beauty!
Decent video, wish you went over more of the important steps such as how tall the support rods need to be and that aluminum tape base that came outta nowhere.
Awesome Jason, a totally love it. Clean lines and awesome output, really have to build this now, and put my spin on it, and luckily i will have spare acrylic after this Wimshurst build is done. not surprised by the ending though, acrylic glue is not really a structural join, more a chemical one. by stepping the acrylic rods and socketing them into the disks then gluing you would have a way more secure structural bond that should handle the load.
Hey Noel, yeah i've been seeing your Winschurt built on IG. I think IG? Anyways, your build is looking great. My only problem with drilling and bolting acrylic together, is it takes too long for me to do properly. I dont have a drill press, so drilling perfectly straight down a rod, then tapping it with a screw bit.....takes so long for me. I need a drill press.
@@PlasmaChannel eah i have a small drill press and it really makes a difference. thanks for appreciating my Wimshurst build, hopefully you will have one coming in the near future.....
I so wanted to make this, thank you so much for the awesome video
You are so welcome!
Oh man...gravity is a bad girl. Love your content. Rebuild the acrylic and place a MP3 player in the circuit. This will be cool. Thanks a lot for all your work.
Thanks Erico. Consider watching my latest video ( well as of today, it's two videos back). I designed a solid state coil that knocks the ball out of the park.

Any plans for a solid state tesla coil? Maybe a mains slayer?
I do plan on a solid state coil! Just....I hate how fragile they are.
@@PlasmaChannel I'm building a double resonant coil in half bridge configuration. So far I've blown 6 pair of FETs and a couple of drivers. This either shows that I'm overlooking something or the coil doesn't like me. So I'm eagerly waiting the SSTC video.

That is very impressive.
Awesome......now we need a musical tesla coil...
Yeah, it is overdue
Beautiful build. Great content.
Thank you
Not gonna lie man this guy is super awesome
If I ever have the time, I’ll make this. I was actually going to build a large one years ago, but couldn’t justify the time and cost. Priorities. Whenever I have worked with acrylic, especially if it’s thin, I would run my drill bits in reverse to prevent splitting. Then I’d take a torch and gently and mildly heat the cut edges to smooth out and remove any micro-fractures that could lead to splitting. Kind of like melting the end of a cut polyester string/rope. Just less melting.
Another way to drill acrylic or any soft material is to take a file and purposefully dull the edges on the drill bit.
I recently found that there are drill bits specifically for acrylic. Bought some, and they drill like butter. Gluing acrylic still sucks massive butt though.
@@PlasmaChannel Have you considered using lexan? Its gravity proof...
You know, I asked my local acrylic shop about that. Even told them about dropping the coil. They strongly urged me to go polycarbonate and that poly will never crack or break.
I love plasma science!!
This channel is sickest in game
Awesome Jay this is wicked mate
Thanks! Where do you hail from?
@@PlasmaChannel Goldcoast Australia Jay. Really love all your work mate.
Hello,
I like the build. I think what would top it off is a hand-made HV capacitor. You could interleave aluminum foil plates in between thin plastic sheets. Encase the whole thing in transparent plastic epoxy to prevent arcing.
I've thought about an all inclusive build using nothing but native materials from the ground.
That is truly an amazing coil. Or at least it was until it lasted. I have to make one with my Royer oscillator based supply.
Thanks! Yeah, when it crashed on the ground....I just stood and stared. Just.....stared for a solid minute. Didn't move. Haha.
OMG, it is imposible to me to belive how much patience you used to make this coil and then it fall off
Great Projekt!
Cool tesla coil and amazing video🤩🤩
Great video Jay ! That project looks super. I would put that on my shelf even if it did not work. Just looks cool. When you were holding by one hand I thought, oh, don't drop it then the ending picture... That would be me after finishing something... : )
Haha, thanks Ramius! Glad you enjoyed the build. It took me a long time honestly. I've already rebuilt it, and made it better. Yeah...I almost dropped it on that shot where I held it up haha.
nice! i use 5-minute epoxy with my acrylic builds, but i liked how the cement capillaried its way right under the rods sitting atop base. might hafta try some cement.
but dark matter might be whack, see also thunderbolts project/electric universe theory, no fabricated dark phenomena required to make the maths work :)

Wicked Jay, absolutely a masterpiece there that you built out of Acrylic; amazing to see the inner workings of that work of art, it is, or should I say was an outstanding piece, very decorative. Shame it succumbed to the forces of Sir Isaac Newton after all the hard work. I hope you can fix it up. Nice elusion to a Nickleback concert. 8:17 The Tesla Coil also oscillates the "pulses" at a specific frequency at an EM intensity of quarter wavelenth. The TC should be called a 'Resonating Coil'
I've made a TC myself!

This SSTC Excited Crkt only generates 500V to 600V. Good for illuminating CFLs and Neon bulbs
How do you tune the primary and secondary coils? Do they need to be very precise numbers of turns?

Wow awsome and beautiful coil, im working on a NE555 sstc
Thank you! Good luck with the timer. 555 timers are so fragile. I used to build with them...but they are so sensitive. Like a snowflake.
@@PlasmaChannel yeah i know, im using some high powe MOSFETS in parallel with the primary, the most complicafed part is to tune the 555 oscilator to the resonance frequency of the coil
hey plasma channel i have epilepsy and i forgot about the one hand rule and was making a jacob's ladder and i was tuning the gap and by mistake i touched the wire with each hand and shocked myself, in a way it was fun lol. i have been into electrical and computer science since i been yung
Hey Alex, that sounds scary and glad you're okay. Yeah, the one hand rule is really important when dealing with higher and higher power levels. In this video, I mentioned the one hand rule, but, then violated the rule. I only violated it because the overall power on this coil is very low, and, I knew exactly what I was doing. Otherwise....oh boy....anything that is 50 watts and up can really hurt you if it goes across the chest.
@@PlasmaChannel yeah when I was in ap Electrical engineering in hs we played with the tesla coil because of the low watts not to get zapped with high watts
Where do the 2N3055 transistors come into play? I don't see them in your build but therein the parts list. Thanks for the video
This is awesome sir 😍😍😍🤩🤩🤩⚡️⚡️⚡️⚡️
9:58 In Colorado Spring Notes, Tesla puts a capacitor on both sides of the primary.
