Here for the BASED Pill's spectacle
Allow me to interrupt this rant about advertising to tell you about some sh&t I'm selling.
Truly based.
I'm gonna go back to my farm workshop to continue making a table for the girl I'm dating now. Because underneath all these images and post-human powers is still a world I can manipulate.
But how do you know it's a table that you're making - when it has one leg, two, three, four? Are you even building a table for your girl, what's really the object cause of your desire? Doesn't your idyllic country life simply exist for the gaze of the other, for the gaze of modernity? Dun dun dun.
Really sorry for the bad philosophy jokes.
I mean. That's a story. But I think there is even another story. These just sell publicity, advertisement and markets. But there are even bigger monster in Energy, Food, Housing, Defense and Healthcare industries that go basically under the radar for general public.
The reason why they pass under the radar is because the spectacle preys upon and exhausts our attention. Entertainment and celebrity play a unique role within capitalism for that reason.
This was both equally hilarious and brilliant!
The editing is really good
Thank you very much, Pills, for all your hard & excellent work.
I have been thinking for the last two decades that poetry was the last free art form, because of its exclusion from almost every market and most of Western cultures, and now with all your work around the spectacle and Debord, I’ve come to add another 🧩 to this puzzle, noticing that poetry is almost completely absent from the society of the spectacle.
When I started thinking about that, long, long ago, I used to feel like Ronnie Dangerfield -«…no respect at all!»-, but soon realised that creating under the market’s radar was also what gives poets all the creative freedom and the multiplicity of voices and styles that we can see nowadays, fortunately, while most of the other forms of art have been reduced to a few formulas that most artists must follow if they want to sell their art.
short, but so so sweet
One thing that my ex pointed out to me a while ago (because she speaks French) is that the name 'Debord' is similar to the French word 'Deborder' which means something like 'overflow', as in the water that breaks a river's banks. Also, it means 'outflank'. As in, a force overwhelming you. I thought that was pretty cool.
It is great to see you back on the topic of Debord. Such a shame that his theories have been forgotten in favour of more (ironically) spectaclized postmodernism like the crazy talk of Baudrillard or Derrida. Debord was writing and fighting in the trenches of Cold War European philosophy to envisage a better life within capitalist society. To that end, you should look into Raoul Vaneigem as well. He was Debord's contemporary, a fellow Situationist writing in Paris close to '68 and wrote a very similar book to SoS called 'The Revolution of Everyday Life' that I consider to be, in ways, a lot deeper and more usable day to day.
I hope Hasanabi reacts to this on Twitch
Excellent I really enjoyed that and Debord is always food for thought! 👌

Can you be the Michael Jordan of segues?
Excellent work.... although you've only touched the tip of the iceberg...
The real conspiracies have their tentacles in places and practices that are much more disturbing!
Brilliant
As chairman of the Alphabet board, I'd rather go abroad with my surf board and my broad on a full-board live-aboard instead of being bored with Debord.
I bet you could go on all night!
S.P.E.C.T.R.E. 🤔
Okay Google
My name is Michelle and I have a Google pixel
First
Did being first fulfil a desire?
Plastic pills should put himself on the corkboard more than he did. This is just my big other screaming, but my biggest gripewith this channel is that it often makes an exception for itself. Plastic pills is a youtube channel. he is a specticle. Irony is no the way out. Self-conscioussness of issues is not the way out. This video implies that it is the exception. I feel that anway.
Did you miss the part where he specifically included himself in the spectacle to pitch his patreon?
Pills and the Pillpod did address how they are playing a part of producing the spectacle in one of their recent podcasts going over "Society of Spectacle" and explicitly admitted that they are part of it too (#109 I believe).
@@jetstreamer182 i think they also reiterated that in #111
@@GolfBaller I guess the argument is that if you are going observe the spectacle, does you admitting you are in it raise a suspicion that you might be trying to imply you are somewhat different by virtue of being self aware? If so, to what extent does it matter if the main observation is that underneath the hood is the issue of ownership by capital?
It can across like a continuation of that Black Mirror episode Fifteen Million Merits, but instead of being tv show (itself a commodity just to be obvious) about the commodification of dissent, we now have a commodification of content explaining why commodification of dissent is missing the point, and so on, forever.
Workers of the world, donate! (ironically lel)
@@drayzorn damn bro that's deep.
Ah yes. Psychosis. Delightful.
