Pretty sure you should have attached the studs to the frame flush with the inside of the frame and then you could have cut the 1x6s so the fit inside the outer frame so you’d have them concealed and didn’t see the edges of the wood.
I started it that way and wanted to do it that way and ran into complications as you need something to tack the ends of the 1 by 6s onto when recessed. You would have to rip a 2 by 4 or place an additional 2 by 4 at a right angle inside the frame.

Did you have to anchor it down so no fear of wind blowing it over?
No it’s heavy. Just went through 60mph winds last week with no issues
