I'm not sure. Sacrificial protection magic only kicks in when the victim has the option to live but consciously chooses death. I suppose that Rowan did have the option to live by not pushing Ben aside, but did so knowing that the spell would probably hit him and he would die. It's a bit up in the air.
Stephen King no. Sacrificial Protection would work only if the killer gives the choice to the victim to die for their loved one or not, and the latter willingly chooses death out of love. Voldemort gave that choice to Lily, so this is why he couldn’t kill Harry. In the 7th book he did the same thing to Harry, so his friends couldn’t be killed. I just reached this point in the game today, and even though I've known about this since April 2020 (I first found it through Harry Potter Wiki before finding this video), it was still hard (probably because I'm experiencing this in my own game for the first time). I don't usually get upset about video game deaths, but this was definitely one of the more emotional ones, especially with the music.
