In this video I compare the Slick Collar against the Million Dollar Collar, to see which shirt collar stays are the best. The Slick Collar adjustable shirt collar is new on the market, I was previously pleased with Million Dollar Collar placket stays, so it will be interesting to see how each compare on an identical shirt.

I noticed that in order to get a much more taught looking placket with the slick collar one thing that you can do, if you're wearing your dress shirt tucked make sure that you have it very well tucked or if possible wear a pair of shirt stays. This adds a slight downward tension to the shirt which forces the collar to actually become even more erect and also prevents the placket from crumpling.
I found that the Slick Collar likes to move around alot. Halfway through the day one side would be poking out or it would slide down and be visible from under the collar. Overall I wouldn't recommend. I purchased some Million Dollar Collar stays but they just seem like too much work to fit to the shirt. I'm personally not a seamstress or tailor and the ones I brought them to weren't familiar with the product and didn't seem very willing to install them. I've learned from past experiences that when tailors or cobblers don't show enthusiasm you end up with either shoddy or incorrect work
Personally, the million-dollar collar is definitely worth it. My tailor installs them for about $6 per shirt. Once it's installed, it's going to make every shirt, suit, top coat that you wear look ten times better.
I have both. IMO the way to have the best looking shirt is the MDC + collar-stays and have your collar points have buttons (hidden or visible button-down like the one you have in this video). None of these products, collar-stays included will prevent your collar from splaying out to the side which ends up looking sloppy and is bad for framing your face. For my best white dress shirts I have a french placket, million dollar collar, hidden-button downs and collar stays.
e: oo and make sure you iron the hell out of dress shirt collars and collar fold/crease if you want it looking really sharp

Love the comparison, Ben! I think I would side more with the Slick Collar because I don't mind if the placket sits a little more open. Also, I would much rather have the quick switch around between shirts considering this isn't a problem I worry too much about since I am pretty liberal with starch on the collar when I iron.
Totally agree. I've also tried both and find the Million Dollar Collar leaves the plackets looking unnaturally rigid. The Slick Collar comes with collar stays as well and it's quick to put on. I like the additional slim version in the bonus case. Just wish they included a couple more Slick Collars in the package since I sometimes misplace the two I have

I'm a woman but this video was fun to watch & quite informative. I am on a mission to fix my boyfriend's sagging collars, but I'm going to experiment with the supplies we have at home (spray starch) before I purchase one of these specialty products. I really do wish your video had included some Before/After results of using the good ole spray starch method... isn't that what people have been doing for years, before we had the recent luxury of Amazon, overnight delivery, and internet marketing?

Thanks for the evaluations. I think I’ll try the Slick Collar first. I only leave the top button unbuttoned so I am hoping that will work as it is the easier way to go.
Ben, how about collar stays with magnets? Has worked well for me for years... The real challenge has been to find something for polo collars, you should do a video on those!
Hi Zohaib, in terms of the collar stays with magnets, it depends what look you prefer. Personally, I often find they pin the collar flaps so flat, it looks unnatural, but my main issue is the added weight. It often makes the collar fall forwards. With a thicker material/higher quality shirt, this may be less of a problem though

I thrift shop a lot. Slick Collar is a less expensive way to correct some damage that may be done to a vintage shirt. if you invest in good shirts probably million dollar collar and tailor visits.
Your video got me wondering, what's the female equivalent to the sagging collar fashion dilemma? I don't have any good answers yet but I will be thinking about it today. Would be curious to hear what your (presumably male) viewers can come up with!
One of the funniest downsides I’ve encountered with the Slick Collar is when I remove my pullover, it sometimes gets caught to my shirt’s collar and the Slick Collar falls out, awkwardly exposing my lie to everyone 😂

This is why starched detachable collars should come back in... this is all far more impractical than simply sending your collars off to be laundered! Though if you're not wearing a tie I wouldn't think you need to bother with these products, just a little starch with an ironing would do the trick, or simply don't bother when wearing a casual shirt anyway (like me 😜)
I’ve don’t think I’ve ever had this problem, at least not since I was a kid. I just buy high quality shirts and wash and dry them properly. I’m assuming most people these products are aimed at wash their shirts too hot and then stick them in the dryer. Dress shirts should always be washed cold (30°C) and air dryed on a wooden hanger. The dryer is the worst enemy of any kind of clothes.

Hands down...MDC.... IF you want to pay cheap... then you have to know...you will look cheap...Fact is , it could fit a little tighter, around the neck..But they have these 2 sided tape pieces sold on Amazon, used for when you need your shirt, to button, where there is no button.,I put it just above the 2nd button, to get a dam near perfect fit, yes it cost more..But I'm worth it...Are you?
If you can’t just starch/iron the placket straight, you need a heavier (sometimes lighter) starch or a better fitting shirt

Slick collar is my choice because it's economical and reusable over and over again. Verses...... All that other expensive nonsense. Maybe it's called million-dollar collar because you going to need a million dollars to do all your shirts.
Do the math..I hand wash my best shirts..I paid $80 to have the MDC part in 10 shirts,...Because my very dressy shirts never go to the cleaners...And I still, look like a Million, this very very Cheap...
The solution? Stiff detachable collars like the Victorian era.

For me, both are inferior products, they mask the problem rather than fix the problem. I can see why people would buy them although they both seem pricey for what they are, but I honestly think, especially in the UK, people would be better of buying custom shirts, because you can get them done fairly reasonably here by companies who travel around, do measurements, and make them in HK (wouldn't do that with a suit though, bad idea to use them for that)

Still, the math is tricky here. 30 for Shirt + 5 for stay + 15 for tailor... Or just buy a shirt for 50 that won't have the issue
50 dollar shirts will run into this issue.
My math...I paid $80 to have the MDC installed in 10 shirts, parts, and labor...Some already cost $100..And still, they all have LIMP Plackets...It's not the cost of a shirt.it's the design..
The best thing I have found is to purchase a good quality shirt to start a little starch and replace the shirt before it looks like a rag
I just button that extra button at the top.
You can make a free SlickCollar with the plastic support that comes with your shirt when you buy it. Just cut it so it hides underneath the shirt collar. OR get metal collar stays and buy a pack of neodymium magnets to stick your collar up as well as keep it sharp.
IMO the million dollar collar makes shirts look ridiculous. Way too propped up to the point where it's cartoonishly obvious that something is making the placket stand erect.
