    I was talking to our 3D artist from our broadcast department showed him what I did following this tutorial since it was a bit unstable caching the animation.
    He suggested I fisrt convert the spheres to poly objects than group them all and use only one soft body tag on the whole group.
    This indeed made the caching much more stable. so just a heads up. thanks again!

    I found that Hexahedron type of sphere looks more like your reference than Icosahedron one. It gets deeper in those corners of cube. But you need to change your soft body settings after changing the type of sphere.

    • @eyedesyn

      For sure, I do like the hexahedron for this as well, it maintains a more inflated cube type of look that indeed works best for this kind of shape! Thanks for the heads up!

    Hi EJ, I just finished 3D basecamp, you're an awesome teacher!
    I'm trying this but for some reason, this doesn't work for me. When I hit SET INITIAL STATE it works at first, frame 0 sets to the deformed state I want, but when I activate dynamic transition at frame 50, it begins to revert to the original cloner grid layout. There is also that weird hiccup from frame 49-50, when changing the dynamic state, which I can't get rid of. Is there another way to do this?

  • @kseekane
    @kseekane Před 4 lety +1

    Hi there! I followed every step with same number of frames and it came out nice.
    But, I have a problem in the Looping part at the end of the Tuto:
    From frame 51 till end, the 'blobs' crush into each other, and "destroy" each other (when they collide, they go through and make holes) and it doesn't get back to the initial state. It just ends up crazy!
    I don't know how to fix that, I tried a few things but didn't find a solution. Anyone had the same bug (and fixed it)?
    Otherwise, thanks very much, it's a great great tutorial! I learned lots of stuff!

      I noticed that it happens only in render region and only when i put all the spheres under a Subdivision surface. When i final render the scene it render deformed as i want.
      Or if turn off the subdivision surface, the sphere renders deformed even in render region.
      Could it be a question of rendering or pre-rendering settings?

      The Collision margin on the Expert Dynamic settings is set to 1, so if you lower that a bit or make it 0, you'll have no space but you may have some intersecting going on. Hope that helps and thanks for watching ALL the tuts! :)

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  Před 5 lety +1

      you need to cache the dynamics to see if properly in the middle of the animation. when you render in like frame 45 or something, its rendering & starting the dynamics at that frame so it's inaccurate. Caching solves all this!

    I have a question: I'm doing something very similar but having the soft bodies inflate with the pressure feature. The animation looks great and it's acting like I want it to. But when I render it out the spheres don't render the new formed shape. The result into their original state. If that makes sense? As always thank you, and any direction help would be great.

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  Před 6 lety

      Try caching the dynamics! when you render out at any other frame than frame 0, it will render oddly because the dynamic simulation always starts at 0, so rendering out at say frame 30 will make the dynamics not play back correclty nor render correctly, so give caching a try!

    Looping technique does not work. Tried it with various levels of complexity and not a single one worked even when it was only two spheres.

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  Před 7 lety

      Hi there! The looping technique has also worked for many others so perhaps you're missing a step? The only thing I can think of is that you're not "Setting Initial State" after the spheres are fully inflated, that could cause you issues. Feel free to email me a scene file with the issue and I'd be happy to troubleshoot it with you! Hope that helps!

    • @matreyia
      @matreyia Před 7 lety

      I have no way of email you directly and no drop box account after they mysteriously upgraded me without permission and charged my account.
      Here is the issue, there is no way for me to know when the exact moment of full inflation is so that's probably the problem. If you know how to find this exact moment on compositions, let me know...otherwise, I don't think I could reliably make things loop with this technique.
      Thanks for your contribution to the community!

    • @eyedesyn
      @eyedesyn  Před 7 lety

      You can e-mail me directly at ej (at) eyedesyn (dot) com.
      As for your issue, there's no "magic amount of time" to wait until everythings fully inflated but typically after 30-40 frames everything should be fully inflated. If you watch my tutorial where I set the loop point by hitting the "Set Initial State", its about 30 frames in. What the problem could be is if you let the simulation run TOO long, meaning the objects get way too far from it's original position, the dynamics transition may have issues trying to get each blob back to where it needs to be due to the limitations of the softbody dynamics.
      So you can try to avoid this and achieve a nice loop like I got by doing one of two things:
      1) Not making the total simulation too long
      2) Making the dynamics transition time a bit longer.
      I'd shoot for number 1 as the dynamics transition time isn't too reliable. My total loop was about 90 frames. Hope that helps!
