1. A six-lane divided highway is to be designed to replace an existing highway. The present
AADT (both directions) of 6000 vehicles is expected to grow at 5% per annum and the
pavement is expected to be open to traffic after three years. The percent distribution of
traffic is 60/40% in each direction. Determine the design ESAL if the design life is 20
years and the vehicle mix is:
a. Passenger cars having two axles (400 Kg/axle)= 40%
b. Buses having two axles (1500 Kg/axle)= 20%
c. 2-axle single-unit trucks (4500 Kg/axle)= 20%
d. 3-axle single-unit trucks (9000 Kg/axle) = 10%
e. Truck and trailer with 4 axles (10000 Kg/axle)= 10%

Thanks for your comment. Good question so the e.f for car,bus & truck is found with the same method that truck trailor was found but you need to have there axel survey which will be done on site.and for your second wuestion for truck the value become 0.00 it is not b/c it is zero it is b/c its close to zero and if you add that small number it is not going to make a lot of change on the Esa which become 20.4 on the example.
