I have a mint 1985 UR (WR engine) quattro, my son and I travelled all the way to San Marino in it from South Wales in the UK last October to attend the 'Rally Legend' event, it was a beautiful drive over the Swiss Alps and through the Gottard Tunnel etc, we were treated like kings when we were at the event. My son and his partner are going to carry out the same drive this year as we did, although I shall be taking the 'Silver Bird' with some friends on this occasion. See you all there !!
I had a ride up this hill in 2005 with Walter in a Porsche - a thrill for sure!

Walter Röhrl... Remembering Monte Carlo Rally back in the 80s with the Audi Quattro ; it was by night in a place called " Lardier " , french alps ; this man made the car howling in the mountains and with the echo , it was just amazing ; what a pilot !!!

I have an LHD 1980 UR in my garage, with an engine built by BR Motorsports. It hasnt been properly driven since 1995, but the BR engine rebuild was only done about 3000 miles before this.
Hmmm. I am looking forward to getting this back on the road. I don't think there are many left in such good and original condition.
It was all A ok when I last moved it in 2003. It will need work after standing.
I may consider an offer from a serious contender, as it is in the UK & I am in Australia....

@DieBuechlers Thats correct - but there is no S1 in this Vid . It´s the Audi Quattro A2 , the second evolution of the Audi Quattro ( Street Car ) . They started with the Group 4 car followed by the first Group B car ( Audi Quattro A1 )

Not the first versions of the S1. That was later years.

@Melon Berd S1 had almost 600HP... but yeah, they mixed hp and kW
The Audi quattro A2 had 420 HP. That was the maximum power out of the 10 Valve engine. The 20V engine started with 450 HP and ended up with 550 HP to 600 HP.

Fein nur zu für uns "durchaus erfahrene, aber normalsterbliche Quattrofahrer" zu sehen, dass sogar einer wie der Walter (und den gibts echt nur einmal) in manchen Kehren (2.33) das untersteuern nicht ganz unterbinden kann (bei diesem Speed)

The fact that, at the time this video was released. This man was 64 years old, can you just bloody think of it that way, Such precision, such fine control over the car at the age when people are confined to the likelihoods of their homes just wanting to live a comfortable life. Sir Walter Rohrl is doing one of the most darings that one could imagine
Youre so right. I spoke 4 years ago someone I prepare heads for hillclimb for, telling me at an international hillclimb that Rörhl drove just for fun with a ( ur ? Dont know anymore) Quattro up the hill finishing 4th or so without helmet and VERY relaxed. He got out of the car without sweating and walked to restaurant to get a coffee.
Lots of other drivers finished behind him and getting out of car exhausted and sweating ......
He told me Rörhl is God regarding vehicle control.. Despite that he said that Rörhl is a little bit arrogant but compared to his fame etc etc its nothing. He also said : still a very nice bloke !!!!
It is Col de Turini, in the Alpes-Maritimes region in France. (Gran) Torino is a Ford and a movie from Clint Eastwood involving... a Ford Gran Torino.
I wish i had a chance to meet him. What a reporter....She stands next to him and she does not realise who actually is that person. Its a legend!!!!!!!!!! She not only met him , she was also a co driver.
Fuck. That's one thing I have noticed when the quattro is run in ceremonial events - they usually turn off the turbos. WTF, man. We wanna hear the beautiful bang.

@TheMaurideep You are absolutly right . The first Quattro was a Group 4 car , but the first and second evolution both are group B cars . I have a copy of the Homologation Papers .

@subzerostorm dont know if somebaody already answered. He is Testdriver for Porsche and does all the setup for them on the Nordschleife. btw a funny story about how good he is at what he does: When Audi brought out the first TT, hes tested it, and said, that the setup is difficult to control at high speed for a "normal" driver and predicted a lot of accidents. he was right and Audi had to add a rearwing afterwards to make it safe going beyond 190km/H (120mp/h)

Little mistake on the info text. At 3:02 it says 265bhp (360kw). It should be 265kw (360bhp)
@Quattroowner i know the quattro sport was a group. B of course but.....the first quattro ( january 1981)was homologated for gr.4.
So what of course the focus would win but the Audi was a major staple in the World of Rally that will never be forgotten.

@Nihilus56 Its supposed to have about 360hp, since its the audi sport quattro, and not just the 'normal' quattro with around 220hp.

the S1 drived by Stig is an evolution of this model which did compete in 1984, the S1 was the version for 1985 championship and the S2 was the last evolution, 1986. in 1986 after the deat of Henry Toiovonen FIA did stop the group B cars, unfortunately....
Walter Rohl is a driving maestro-like all great drivers it all happens so easily for them.Just soooo smooth behind the wheel.And lets not forget that he's driving a car with a lot of weight ahead of the front wheels so it understeers big time!!!

@Einhander49 U can not simply turn off the turbo , u can turn down the boots . On ceremonial events normaly the drivers did not rev up to the max . ...
it was beaten by the lancia Rallye, correct, a 2wd mid-rear engine supercharged(no turbo) car based on the lancia monte carlo. the hybrid of this car came the s4, a true monster. do you know one of the audi sport quattro haad a double clutch gearbox back in those times? amazing
@Quattroowner of course, i dont even know if the normal "quattro" have had FIA fiche for B group. and yes the subtile discrimination you wrote is correct, i agree the exact name is S1 E ( like Evo ) 2.

S2 is the ordinary Audi Coupe .
2 things - 1) you got the bhp / kw wrong and 2) I love that Martini overall!

That's why i prefer a "Rally GT3" over a WRC car any day. Of course - the GT3 is slower, but way more fun to watch. And the sound blows you away. It's a litle bit of old school.
Sich nach 26 Jahren in sein altes Auto zu setzen und so den Cole hochzuheizen, Quattro hin oder her, das ist schon mächtig beeindruckend, zumal die Straße sehr unberechenbar war. Es gibt einen ähnliches Video mit Stig Blomquist; Aber was für ein Unterschied.
