Omg that last mintue really broke my heart Steve is such an amazing character and had such amazing character growth. The fact that he can tell Nancy "it's okay" is inspiring. He really deserved better but at the same time I really wish him and Nancy actually worked out, they could've been great together.
In defense of Nancy, although she was wrong at points, I wouldn't hate her. First of all, she didn't just blame Steve, I believes she blames herself more than anyone else. In fact, her entire character arc is driven by her guilt. I wouldn't hate her because yes, although she used to be this naive teenage girl that went kinda reckless because of a guy, I feel it was totally normal for someone her age to go through that. Unfortunately for her, the consequences were worse than if it happened to you and me. And what I love about it is how she refuses to ignore the consequences and tries to fix it. She couldn't just let everything that happened slide. Part of her frustration with Steve in S2 is him convincing her to pretend that everything is okay when her best friend’s death went unnoticed. And it's not just because of guilt as well. She truly cares for Barb. She truly grieved for her friend's death and she wants to give her the justice she deserves. And I believe that hating Nancy's character because of her love story arc is an injustice to her character as well because it ignores her struggle to cope with the guilt of unintentionally playing a role to her friend's death as well as her badass role in bringing down the fucking lab. Besides, she didn't really mean to hurt Steve. Her actions were consequences of her being confused with her feelings. She denies her feelings for Jonathan. She tries to convince herself that it's Steve she really likes. Her confusion led to wrong actions that hurt Steve but I wouldn't hate her for that. To me, this seems like flaws a normal teenager would have. She's definitely a flawed character but that's what makes her interesting as well. The best thing she's done is how she deals with the consequences of her actions rather than run away from it. That's how you grow up to be a better person. Also, I still love the fact that the girl can use a gun hahaha
And I've always preferred Steve and Nancy. Despite being an ass in season 1, I always got this feeling Steve isn't actually a bad person. Like him being a jerk came from a bad env't e.g. Bad friends rather than from something innate. Probably because once you take Steve out from them and say, put him in a scene with just Nancy, he was sweet and although suggestive, you could see that he respected Nancy's wishes and that he truly cared for her.
