    Great video. I just picked up a 1964 4020 powershift. Not running but can't wait to tear into it. Great project, Great tractor! Thanks for the videos.

    Your videos have been super helpful! We are going through diagnosing a shifting issue on our late serial number 4020 PS like you had in Part 1 of this series and you outlines of splitting and what to look for have been great. Subscribed and will continue to watch!

    I love your videos Jon! Both the farming and the fixing. I farm in southern Michigan but I worked at a JD dealer for 12 years after going through their tech program and I really enjoy watching you doing things like this video. Keep up the good work and keep the videos coming.

    Thank you so much! So happy to see a powershift getting torn down. I've got a 4430 8-speed with some issues... Slow shift in 2, 4, 6 and 2R, (or complete loss going movement), weak/chattery hydraulics except at 1800+ rpm . Leaks all over around the valvebodies. Seeing this gives me the confidence to dive into it a little deeper than I have thus far
    Thanks

    Thanks Jon! I have issues with my parking paw on my 4020 power shift. This is great video for me to now tear into it and see why it isn’t keeping into park.

    Thanks for the videos on this tractor, I just bought a 4020 power shift that someone started restoring and had taken all apart so this might come in handy to help me put it back together! If you could I would like to see a detailed video on the basic functions and of "how it all works" on these power shift transmissions!

      My dad started at a JD dealer in 64. He opened his shop on the farm in 94 when the local deere dealer stopped doing ag tractors.
      I went to college in 93 for JD mechanics. At that time, all the guys dad was fixing for were old, he said there will be no one to fix for in a few years. So he never wanted to build a shop and have both of us go at it.
      Finally, we built this shop so he can retire. Now we have more work than ever.

    Thank you for the great videos. You are very smart and good at these repairs. My only wish would be that you had a camera/phone stand/tripod to put the phone on so when you need both hands to do something, we would be able to see the entire tear down/re-install. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge!

    • @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754
      @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754  Před 7 měsíci

      I will work on it.
      The biggest reason I don't is because this is customer stuff and I don't want them thinking I'm wasting their dollars and time on the time clock setting up camera

      @@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 I understand, but if you were able to set up a tripod for the phone and let it run, maybe they wouldn’t complain. Nevertheless, you do great work and help others with your knowledge and experience. Thanks again

    I’ve heard of guys not installing those 2 bolts that you mentioned so that way you don’t even need to take the Cab Off in the future. Apparently it’s still plenty strong enough without those 2 bolts installed.

    Dad's 3020 had a series of transmission issues. It was a synchro, but I got really good at splitting it. It's not a bad job.

    Hello Jon! Thanks for your videos help me a lot. Question I have a 4020 not wanting to move forward at all and hesitates moving backwards but moves. Any ideas?

    • @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754
      @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754  Před 8 měsíci

      Powershift? Do you have hydraulics?
      Start with checking transmission pressure.

    • @user-pt5mu9xh8n
      @user-pt5mu9xh8n Před 8 měsíci

      @@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 It has a front end loader, enough pressure there.

    • @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754
      @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754  Před 8 měsíci

      @@user-pt5mu9xh8n is it a power shift tractor
      So if the front end loader works that tells us that our transmission pump is working which takes a bunch of other stuff out of potential suspects. So then we would have to look at your shift linkage and see that its operating the valve down there to switch from forward neutral or reverse

    My dad was telling me he felt like my 66 4020’s PTO was slipping while running a round baler. I didn’t notice anything while cutting hay with a haybine. Was curious if all a guy needed was clutch pack rebuilt or there something else?

    • @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754
      @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754  Před 4 měsíci

      Check transmission pressure, do a little checking around the tractor.
      But yeah, not hard to believe that the clutch pack might be getting wore.

      @johngassenhuber9872
      You'd have a couple of grand at the Machine Shop to recondition the head, inspect the block and install new cam bearings, grind the crank, redo the rods with new wrist pin bushings.
      Couple grand for the engine kit, and you still need to buy head bolts a new crankshaft dampener
      Then you need to have about 800 for injectors.
      pump and turbo could be a few hundred or couple grand depending on damage
      To have 7-8 grand into a complete overhaul without any in shop labor is not uncommon today. But you have the best quality overhaul you can get. It sounds a little pricey but no way no how what I do at John Deere reman

    Are there any big differences between this 4020 PS and the one in my 4440?

    • @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754
      @jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754  Před 10 měsíci

      As far as design, your 4440 would look exactly the same,
      Some of the disks in this tractor would go into a 4430
