    This is the first video where I can literally feel what's being explained. How you so vividly express not only with your words but with your movement and excitement. I love your energy. I'm about to watch all your content.

    I use lots of purple. We moved onto these fourteen acres surrounded by gamelands on mountains and cow fields. No matter what we planted it never showed up against the green fields and trees. We planted four purple trees and use a bunch of spirea goldmound to make the house area stand out. Tons of purple coneflowers and Walkers Low Catmint tone it down. Love Johns videos, here I am in the middle of the day when I should be working outside!

    Great video as always. A question John... What is the tall purple plant on the left at the beginning of the video... Someone else put the question but you have not answered... Thank you...

      Maybe it is a bit late, but it is a purple Sycamore tree (Acer).
      If you mean the bush behind the blue Monkshood, it is a Cotinus, probably ‘Grace’. 💚

    @gailh4466 Před 3 lety

    Cotinus grows so fast. How far back should it be cut after the leaves have gone through their change of colour?

    Do you prefer the smoke bush over elderberry and if so, why? And what is your thoughts of dappled willow shrubs?

    • @johnlordssecretgarden
      @johnlordssecretgarden  Před 4 lety +2

      The elder will grow almost anywhere here and comes into leaf quite early too. The best variety is probably Black Lace. Smoke bushes need good sun in Ireland to perform well and they are late into leaf as well. But it is hard to beat the rich colour of their foliage particularly Cotinus Grace.
