  • NORTH LINCOLNSHIRE PARISH #51: CADNEY
With just six left in North Lincolnshire, today brings us to the smallest one that remains - Cadney - which is situated 3 miles to the South of the town of Brigg.
The parish boundary is defined by water on all sides, by the Old River Ancholme to the West, Kettleby Beck to the North and East and North Kelsey Beck to the South
That means this is an island, although you genuinely wouldn’t know it. It’s a tract of land which lies in a flat valley beneath the Lincolnshire Wolds, which are clearly visible from Howsham
This parish made up of two main villages - Cadney and Howsham - but also a third settlement, a tiny hamlet called Newstead which used to have a Gilbertine Priory
Newstead Priory was founded by Henry II in 1171. On the site of the priory stands Newstead Priory Farmhouse, which retains the remains of a Norman vaulted room and a Perpendicular window.
The farm itself is a Grade I listed property for those reasons. As a parish of only a modest size, Cadney can boast a lot of listed buildings - 9 in total
The clergyman and ecologist Adrian Woodruffe-Peacock made his living here from 1891 onwards, the very rural and sparsely populated parish proving useful in his development as an ecologist
Its small yes, but very interesting. Its Cadney folks, lets go!

I live in Cadney directly opposite the Church and Village Hall. I was married in the Church and had both my boys Christened there. It was really interesting listening to this as I learnt stuff I didn't even know. Its a lovely sleepy village to live in. Good work and thankyou for the video.
