    When we talk about basketball history and try to compare the greatest scorers from different eras, it's often a difficult task due to many rule changes, differences in competition, and overall basketball evolution. In this video, we'll dissect the games of five of the best scorers that ever played in the NBA, explain why they were so effective, and then finally, we'll try to answer the difficult question:

  • @christopherdunlap7028
    @christopherdunlap7028 Před 2 lety +222

    Durant is close to 7 feet but it isn't height that separates MJ, it's his leaping ability. While Jordan's height may only be 6'6 his ability to leap and stay off the ground made him impossible to guard. Couple that with his underrated strength and he was unstoppable. Even with the height advantage that Durant has, his back to the basket game wasn't nearly as deadly as MJ's and I have no doubt that if the 3 ball had been as prevalent in the 80's and 90's, that MJ wouldn't have created an ungaurdable deep shot to match.

    IMO, if you had to point out one huge advantage that Jordan had over every NBA player ever, it was his first step. I think I've only seen one video talk about it, but Jordan's first step is probably the quickest and most explosive I've ever seen out of any player. That's partly why he was so efficient at mid-range scoring; people had to respect his first step and his ability to just blow right by them

      Being unguardable is also about mentality which is where MJ beats kd by a long shot. Kd was more physically gifted, but MJs mentality and sheer will as a scorer is unmatched. You can see it in the numbers. Kd has 4 scoring titles, MJ has 10. Kd averaged 30 or more twice, MJ did it 8 times. KD’s second highest scoring season ever is MJ’s career average. I truly believe KD could’ve eclipsed MJ as the best scorer ever, but he just doesn’t have the killer takeover gene in him that MJ had. You could be the most talented player ever, but if you don’t go out there and impose your will on the opponent, then you make yourself so much more guardable.

That actually should have gone to Wilt, but Wilt purposefully dropped his scoring to blend better on his team. No, MJ is the most unguardable player ever because he has the highest POSTSEASON ppg average of all time! Jordan increased his PPG average when competition got tougher, like in the playoffs. That "age 40" stuff is somewhat overrated - there are a BUNCH of folks that were still playing at 40+, starting with every player that had 19 or more years in the league except Moses Malone (straight out of high school) - and MJ only managed 15 years by 40, Kevin Garnett (also straight out of high school) managed 21 and A LOT more minutes.

      the second he starts buzzing around, you need to account for that and switch off at any moment. Something Jordan didn’t ever posses, which opens the game for his teammates.
      Also Steph had just 48% and 43% on FG% and 3FG% how jordan just shoots up to 65% is just you being a fanboy
      And for bostons side Tatum was swarmed and Jaylen was swarmed if you think you need more then one defender for a Marcus smart then man the 80s and 90s must really be trash.
      Also you do know Jordan played in an era (yea what a shock jordan played for more then 96-98) that had more possessions then LeBron on average. LeBron (even if you scale to the amount of years he had) has played in more nba seasons with possessions less then 100 then jordan.
      Also that should show how bad backcourt box outs were if jordan is getting that many offensive rebounds and before you say that’s how good he was, he’s actually just average amongst shooting guards of his era in offensive rebounds. So yea it’s more of just poor fundamentals of his opponents and a lower missed shot trajectory range (because barely any guy in the 80s and 90s can take a legit volume amount of 3s compare today) then jordan being that good because he wasn’t even on par to guys like Clyde, Alvin Robertson, Dennis Johnson in his prime, and Ron Harper in his prime, in offensive rebounds. Not to mention he just got less then 2 and generally hit 6 total for most of his prime, I don’t know how with less possessions he’ll get more total rebounds. So unless he plays Russ’ role then no he cannot get 9 rebounds. @@wanwanyinyang1568 Look at what I SAID and don't try to "interpret" it.
      I didn't say ANYTHING about MJ not bringing his A game in the playoffs.
      However, for one example of WHY I said what I said, Wilt's playoff numbers DROPPED vs his regular-season numbers - not a lot, but noticeable especially on the PPG in his early playoff runs.
      Are you going to claim Wilt wasn't an all-time great?

    One thing this guy forgot to talk about was the kind or type of defense played on mj and how some teams designed their defense to deliberately hurt him thats, plus the removal of hand checking think in 2012 is the reason why players like harden and kd have higher true shooting percentages, in my opinion if those guys were defended like mike was then that's when we will know the true most unguardable scorer

      Personally i think mj is the goat but if we’re talking about most ungardable then it is probably wilt or kareem even though they did in fact play in weaker eras they dominated those eras, and before you say there eras were just as good they weren’t but it’s not wilts fault that he played in a weaker era so you can’t take that away from him

      Grant Williams I respect that answer ngl and yes I do agree Jordan is the goat but if you take 7 foot tall wilt who has bunnies and enormously big hands that is what you would call Unguardable. He’s also extremely stronge and extremely fast for his size

    When you rear on defense (play at 5o% effort) then you have more energy to play offense. Harden and Durant “try” at times but it is obvious they don’t have a defensive mind. This allows them to catch their breath.

    1 on 1 no doubt it's Kobe he has the proof. But in a game it's KD. I wanna put Giannis, LeBron, Jordan, Wilt, Kareem, Tatum, Khawai, Shaq but KD is just the most perfect player I can think of. I would pick The Greak Freak second to KD
