My friend and I used to obsess over this commercial in junior high. We both had it memorized, and used to sing all of the song clips in order. I still refer to this type of music as "freedom rock."
BEST. COMMERCIAL. EVER! Every time I hear the beginning part of "Layla" on the radio, I always have to say "Hey man is that Freedom Rock? Yeah man! Well, turn it up, man!" That song will forever remind me of this commercial.
How you know you're a Gen-Xer: You hear the opening riff of "Layla" and say to yourself, "Hey man- is that FREEDOM ROCK? "

I was a teenager and we went as these guys for Halloween--people even knew who we were...the door would open and people would say "well turn it up man"...we even brought the lawn chairs

Last week, my dj at the bar was playing some tune that I didn't know and I went up there and said "Hey man, is that freedom rock?". He's like, "huh?" Boy do I feel old. He had no clue what I was talking about. Anyway, I knew I could find it on youtube to send a link to him to show him what I was talking about. i bought the 2 disc version back in 1989. i was 15 then and i still have it in my collection.
Damn I remember this ad I even bought the Album as well. I wish I still had it had some great tunes. Back before mp3s and digital audio some of these song were incredibly hard to get.

A friend of mine was doing some substitute high school teaching in the late 80s. He went into a classroom one day wearing a tie-dye shirt and one of the kids said, "Hey! It's Freedom Rocker!" Henceforth that was his name to that class.
I still remember hearing those songs in the commercial and not having heard them yet. Dang that commercial was on a lot.

Dude, I totally remember this commercial from back in the 80s. Classic. They used to run this all the time during daytime TV like "Divorce Court" and other dreck like that. Atlanta Braves baseball on TBS, kiddos!

I was 14 when this commercial came out, and even then I had to roll my eyes, rub my temples, stare at the ground and found myself thinking, "Ya know . . . you can hear every single one of these songs on the radio a million times a day for absolutely nothing."
I don't know how the Baby Boomer generation is able to even stand up straight.
