I realise it's a bit late now but you could fit a smart relay with an emergency switch that means you can jump your starting batteries from your house batteries, definitely not a good idea to use it unless you have no other choice as your house batteries will suffer but it could save you an expensive recovery charge.
I always interconnect my battery banks so i can switch between them in various ways, having your solar capable of being switched to charge your starting batteries can also be a life saver.

Awesome video again guys. With your battery issue… you might have been able to jump start it from a 12V system if they weren’t completely flat. I have jumped a horse box in a petrol station (24v) off my 12V car. Some of them campers around you will have larger than normal batteries which should have managed it. Once that initial starting draw was overcome, the trucks alternator would have taken over. Providing the slave vehicle was running when doing so 👍

From EX Auto sparks on heavy trucks etc...now retired at 80 years....make sure no 12volt equipment is wired into just one of the lorrys 12v batterys....the Alternator regulater wont know its there....and that one 12v will allways run down....any 12v ony equipment must be connected to a 24 volt dropper to 12Volt...with the lorry make sure the Alternator warning light does indeed come on...and goes off when running, check you see with a multimeter 26/28 volt output on batterys engine running. 21:21 it's really important you get good connections on the batteries, the starter draws 700 Amps for the first half a second or so & that's plenty enough to completely vapourize a post. Very few garages have the crucible & moulds to cast a new post so you would need a new battery, actually a pair of batteries so they're balanced.

as a hgv fitter, i can tell you that if your re-gen kicks in, and you can,t maintain a constant 40 mph speed, then your batteries kick in to heat the strobe to do the regen, this takes alot of power from your batteries, so if you cant maintain 40 mph then make sure you don,t over load the batteries, ie; make sure nothing else uses the main batts whilst re-gen is powering, no phone chargers, air con off, radio off, that,s what killed the batts on your way...

First ive heard of that. Most trucks have a extra injector that injects diesel upstream of the catalyst, this in turn creates the extra heat to burn off the particulates. Hence why you have 2 nox sensors, upstream and down stream. Never seen probes acting as heaters, not big enough and no wiring to support the power required, not and scania and volvo that i worked on or owned.

Well done with the 20k subscribers. Good firm battery connections are essential. Make it a priority to fix that, even if it means buying either new batteries or cables/connectors. Also, as others have said, get a volt meter. Check the battery voltage accross them both with no engine. should be minimum 24v. With the engine running it should go up. With the engine reving up I would expect in the region of 27 to 28 volts if your alternator is working well.

Get your self a light weight Large wheeled Sack truck with a few straps to carry heavy items as in this case with the batteries. The batteries could weigh up to 30kg each depending on the amperage. Also as mentioned prior a multi meter to check the voltages. Also sometimes the drainage can also be from opening and closing the doors as you could be utilising the power drain from the lights turning on and off.

You can check if the alternator is working by measuring the voltage at the battery - with the engine running you might see a higher voltage than when the engine is off. If the engine is revved sa bit the alternator should provide a higher voltage at the battery (so no need to find your alternator!)
Having jump leads might not help as most motorcaravans are based on van chassis, so will have 12v batteries (though with 2 sets of jump leads and 2 friendly vans, you could get 24v to start.
Is your jump pack 12v or 24v?
I had a 6.5 tonne Iveco with an analogue tacho (using paper charts) - that flattened it's battery when not driven, though it took 2 weeks. I cured that with an isolator switch - though disconnecting one of the battery leads could work as a temporary measure

Do you know why the batteries were low? Maybe something that's connected on that circuit was turned on. Also, since you have lithium, you could possibly connect the lithium batteries to the engine batteries for a boost to get the engine running. Finally jumper cables could add another backup procedure so you could get a boost from another camper. Happy camping!

A battery charger running off the inverter works fine, either one 24V one or two 12V ones.
Electric wheelchairs are usually 24V lead-acid (though much smaller) so the charger will work as a trickle charger & at least compensate for a tacho or something that's draining the battery.

My taco drains my battery in winter when I'm not driving for several days. I fitted an isolator switch which works really well. When I tested for a battery drain I couldn't get a reading but perhaps its just having the battery in negative state that is the problem. I haven't set up my solar yet as iv been getting my roof redone first. I wonder if having the solar charging the vehicle battery will solve the problem. I've got such a good fridge now that I can go a week without charging my leisure battery so havent bothered setting up the solar. Maybe just a little solar panel in the cab to support your vehicle battery.

I have a Lidl 12V charger (on motorcycle setting) off my inverter keeping the starting battery maintained, you would want 2 for 24V unless you find the rare one that also does 24V.

You really need a volt meter to test the batteries and see if they are being charged. The B2B should have an ignition feed that switches it off when the engine is not running. We have a Renege Battery Meter on our system, this will show you exactly what is happening, especially good for fault finding as you can see in an instant if you B2B is working. we have the Stirling 120A B2B in the motorhome, and our eldest has 2 x Renogy 50A MPPT B2B's on his. We rely on B2B's and treat solar as a bonus. Congrats on the subscribers.
