Well if you think about it in wolf terms Jane is an alpha female or the dominant female, she gives off an aggressive vibe which to loners triggers a fear response. Maura on the other hand isn’t threatening or aggressive like Jane is she’s softer and caring in a way that Jane isn’t (Jane is caring but in a fierce protective way) Maura is totally janes mate as is evidenced by how different she acts around Maura and the fact that Maura can make her do things that no one else can like hugging and touching
I could see Ms. Alexander playing that doctor-type role in a series where she helps people who have been traumatized. Perhaps it's a psychologist or something but her inner compassion comes through loud and strong on the type of scenes you showed in this montage. She truly is a tremendous actress, and I look forward to seeing future roles she plays after RI.
