Besides Mauna Kea, is there any other places I might need a 4x4 on Big Island? I wanna go to the green beaches etc too
Other than the green beach we’re not sure you would need one anywhere else. Nowhere that we know of at least 😊
You don't need one for the Green Sand Beach. Drive to the parking are and get a round trip ride from the locals. If you drive that route on your own, and aren't familiar with those paths, there's a good chance you'll get stuck.

Which tour did you guys book?
We booked with Mauna Kea Summit Adventures. Their guide Travis was amazing and they had easy pickup and drop off less than a mile from our hotel!
When you say it is about seven hours long, where are you driving from? Is it seven hours from the visitor center?
No, the tour group actually picks you up at Queens' Marketplace near Waikoloa Beach. So the drive from there up the volcano, the time you spend at the top, and the drive back to be dropped off was roughly 7 hours.

Have you been to the highest points in any other states?
Not the highest point, but we have been to the top of Cadillac Mountain in Maine. But no, I believe that the Mauna Kea summit was the highest we've been before.
