Women have been complaining about 'objectification' in the media for as long as I can remember. In the 90s, from memory, in Australia, there had to be a printed notice on magazine ads that used retouching methods to alter models' appearances in glossy magazine ads. Barbie was bad. Naked photos in glossy magazines were frowned upon. Models were too thin.
Fast forward...... People retouch their own photos and filters are everywhere, Barbie is good again and OF women are praised. Models can be any size. Too thin is still bad but there is seemingly no end to how large models can be.

the magazine was headed south long before this. Readership spiked (at the newstand/supermarket level) for the single issue. AI written stories with fabricated quotes, the failure to produce the may issue was part of a long decline of a magazine that was initially published weekly, then bi-weekly , then monthly. Readership was in decline for years. Shapiro's rant this time is just not based on the facts.

Most music videos to this day are synchronized to the records and so were performances on those programs. The Midnight Special, like In Concert and its broadcast syndication successor, Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert, before that, had live performances and was likened to a rock concert. The whole notion of music videos were originally for programs like American Bandstand and Britain’s Top Of The Pops, to act as fill-ins for when acts were unable to appear on programs, plus ironically, they wouldn’t have to mime on those programs.

For me I don't care about age within range... Bottom line there are tons of female athletes who deserve to be on the cover of a Sports Illustrated magazine. So many hard working athletes in basketball, gymnastics, swimming, golf, or tennis. It's a shame we do not highlight a sport on a sports magazine. I think Gale is more appropriate on another women's magazine not sports.

I worked retail and the SI swimsuit edition used to be wrapped in plastic to keep people from looking at it. They had to buy it to see it. No need for the plastic wrapping any more!

The Sports Illustrated magazine is useless nowadays and the swimsuit edition is no longer relevant. The swimsuit edition became a focal point of the magazine during a time when after the NFL Super Bowl was played and before Major League Baseball’s spring training began, and was during the mid-seasons for the NBA and NHL. So, the magazine reporters really had nothing to truly write articles about, so a genius came up with the edition of the swimsuit edition and hit gold with it. It actually became more popular than the magazine itself. For us guys, this is what we used to look forward to so we can get to see the hottest girls like Christie Brinkley and Cheryl Tiegs and Elle MacPherson in the hottest looking bikinis. But then things changed in this world. We grew up, the Internet began to do more than the magazine could ever do, and the sports’ world has basically eclipsed that downtime season between the end of the football season with the beginning of spring training in baseball. Nowadays the Super Bowl is often played just a week or two before pitchers and catchers begin, and everyday there seems to be news on each team for every sport to the point that sports’ fans are busy keeping up with their favorite teams constantly throughout the year. Sports Illustrated, just like with ESPN and other media, have swung all the way to the left, fully accepting the woke agendas and playing into them, which is why the magazine that stopped selling twenty years ago is so desperate that they have decided to put people who are fat, ugly, old hags and even men posing as women, which even makes buying an issue even less worthy for young adults nowadays. Young people don’t care about LGBTQR, and they don’t care to see an 80 year old woman or some morbidly obese woman in a bathing suit, and are certainly not going to put down a few dollars for such an edition.
The past several years of swimsuit issues have such a limited target- makes no business sense. Like liver flavored ice-cream.

Let's be honest, the internet killed the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit edition. It's been a long time since this was a thing. It's only propped up by the media. What they should have done, was focus 100% on young up-and-coming actresses such as Sydney Sweeney. No older women, no men, not even models. At least it would have generated some worthy buzz to it's actual audience.

I had SI since the 70s. The main reason they went bankrupt is because all of the information regarding sports and highlights is on 24 hours plus social media. Also, the magazine became less about sports and more about sports figures. I saw the decline and canceled like ten years ago. The swimsuit issue would not have saved it.
