The haters literally wanted her to experience some kind of additional cruel and unusual punishment or something. I hope Mhi'ya flips her way through life and never lets those creeps hold her down. Before the haters get here, I love Mhi’ya! So happy to see some representation for Black girls who aren’t as boisterous and loud because there is diversity in our culture. She obviously would do better on a future season with her runways in tact and some experience with expressing a little more outwardly, but she did great overall and had some great moments this season!
I think Mhi'ya is a really good example of how weird Rate A Queen is, I think it was meant to cause a lot of drama, but the queens didn't really fight over it at all, and instead of a few queens getting two unjust placements as a trade off for really good drama, Mhi'ya was shafted twice and barely anything came out of it
I mean didn’t Spice reach Top 8 last season without ever placing above Safe and Salina also lip synced 4 times and never even placed even high where as Mhiya won the girl group challenge and in the top twice
I have a personal pet peeve for girls who show up who can't contruct a tube dress, at the very least. With that prejudice, I just couldnt get behind Mhi'ya. Even if she didn't know how to sew, she didn't even know how to hot glue without help. I know that she did some great things on her run, and that sewing challenges are not the most popular...but it's not like there have been a ton of seasons without a single sewing challege.
Some people aren’t … intellectually and artistically gifted to the point of being able to sew or hot glue without asking for help. It’s just a way of thinking that designers and artists have
@@ashisburning7786 I agree with you. I guess I see it as a repeated challenge of a skill many drag queens develop - same as comedy, dancing, and even lip sync. Those are also gifts that require seeing the world in a particular way. Denim (competitor on most recent Canada season) has autism and they found a way to make it work to her advantage.
i absolutely love mhiya.. i truly don’t understand why people hate her so much! she has such a genuine personality she reminds me of prob my fav rpdr queen, tkb. shy in challenges but thrives in lip syncs. she made the horrible lip sync songs actually enjoyable (flowers and that damned bloody mary song). idk shes just so funny to me and i find her refreshing as a queen who isnt trying too hard to be a personality. also that cape thing was wayyyy too over dramatized and people need to learn how to have fun.. i kinda wished she lip synced her way to the top and won the season. my fav idgaf queens eva !! and she made stunts exciting for my fried stunt receptors
Plasma got their flowers n won the challenges they were going to Win. When push came to shove they couldn't perform n Dragrace always looks for triple threats or good TV moment makers.
Similar to Gothy Kendoll’s run in UkvsTW2, I think that what the show did best was to show a dignifying treatment of queen who doesn’t have the “reality tv personality” and what people who struggle with the competitive setting can do to showcase their talents
I honestly think Mhi'ya had a great run on the competition. She fell very under the radar in the first few episodes, I didn't really think she was much of an underdog. But it is noticeable how further she got. Her timid behavior switched around after Snatch Game. She definitely won the lipsync against Plasma, who in turn had a finished story arc imo. The other thing that was building up was her story arc with Morphine, so saving her for a showdown between the two was a great ending. She went out on a challenge she isn't good at, so it also makes sense. She really established herself as the lipsync assassin, solidified herself as the flip queen and really came out her shell. While she isn't a fan favorite of mine, I definitely was a highlight of the season!
I agree she had a decent showing!! Kind of like Coco Montrese on season 5. Her bottoms were highs because of how good at lip syncing she is and she still did really well in some of the challenges!!
Amanda could’ve taken Mhi’ya’s spot in the bttm 3 in the design challenge bc ppl like Mirage admitted to ranking her group higher for personal reasons. It truly sucked what happened to Mhi’ya with that designer bc wow that sucks shame on the designer. Mhi’ya was the queen I expected to be in the bttm a lot the moment she said she’s a great dancer bc we always have that one dancing queen who is put in the bttm a lot (tbf her bttm placements were correct) to get rid of queens which ends up causing fans to hate her especially when she sent home Plasma who was a front runner.
I am convinced Amanda was supposed to get the underdog edit instead of Mhi’ya but because she didn’t rank low in the ball and was eliminated early they then decided that Mhi’ya would be a good alternative.
Although she did slay against plasma Amanda slayed against Q and Q stayed because of her track record it’s so inconsistent when it comes to lipsync judging which is what the people are complaining about
I'm kinda stunned that people keep saying Mhi'ya was missing "half" of her looks. They need to bring over 20 looks, Mhi'ya was only missing 5, it's not anywhere near half of the runways
Mhi ya got the Dancer who can't perform in challenges Except she could do fine but struggling runways. She was too strong plus not enough dancers to have a rupalooza or w/e it's called n she would win;so pointless to go that route I actually enjoyed her after the first lipsync n she changed my mind after opening up more.
I watch dragrace in a half interested haze these days. but Mhi'ya, sapphira and morphine always kept me coming back this season. Mhi'ya is also unironically worshiped in the drag race cringe reddit, and rightfully so.
Im sure the whole runway situation affected her morale. I really wish she got her runway package cause im sure she would have done much better anyway i think she has probably positioned herself as a lipsynch assasin and one of the best lipsynchers of the franchise imo. :)
Idk why people hate on the queens when you all DON'T DO DRAG. Like, y'all can't do half the shit these queens do. So stop acting like you guys know everything, and think you have the right to critique these queens.
There is a small assumption in your comment. I agree that a majority of the more critical fans have likely never done drag (other than like, Halloween). But there are a vast amount of queens who will never even qualify for the show nor are they interested...but are still drag artists.
I will talk on a personal level, I enjoyed her as a character on the show, but greatly dislike some of the attitudes that were portrayed, maybe by the edit or herself, but it was a turn off, I can say the same for plane Jane and even dawn. I will never go as far as saying rude things about her, I just did not enjoy her personality. As a side note I tried really hard to watch roscoe's viewing party with her as a guests, and it just confirmed (to me) her shy and uptight personality, which is OK, but still difficult to enjoy for entertainment purposes, at some points if it were not for the rest of the queens on stage, the show would've been very question - yes and no answer. Hope she get booked consistently since she is a great performer. But on a reality TV standpoint, she was lacking.
If you are presenting yourself on the runway and it looks like you’re holding back, then yeah you’re going to come off shy. i don’t see how that’s a bad critic to give
While I agree with everything said in the video, I don’t think it was necessary to downplay how dangerous Mhiya throwing her cape onto Morphine was. We’ve gotten mad at girls for getting physical on the lip sync stage before, but now this is iconic? And trust, I do believe Morphine throwing her boob was just as dangerous & unnecessary. We do not need to be throwing shit at each other when y’all are already flipping around in hells lmfaooo 😭😭
Mhi'ya was a great performer but didn't really have a personality, meaning she didn't make particularly good tv. I hope she does well in the future and can come into herself a little bit more.
I think when it comes to Miyah and her lip sync with plasma, yes, lip-synchs for your life should be the deciding factor however, in reality it isn’t. I think there’s more to a girl going home then just losing the lip-synch. If we’re going to be honest, Jinkx monsoon did not win her lip-synch in the finale of all star seven but she still overall did better in the competition and that’s why she won the crown. I think the reason ultimately a lot of people thought my should’ve gone home is like you said it just got to a point where Maya wasn’t growing as a queen, and she wasn’t really taking the judges critiques, seemingly into consideration. She could’ve been edited differently, but she wasn’t really a big personality. She didn’t really have a lot of great confessional moments. Her look weren’t the best, I think, by the time her lips sink with plasma happen I got to where I think she wasn’t adding value to the competition itself.
Good arguments, overall I don’t agree with you, I definitely don’t think she should’ve stayed as long as she did. I had one critique about one of the arguments you made: if the lip syncs do not take into account past performances, then why did Amanda go home to Q earlier in the season? Amanda did significantly better in that lip sync but Q stayed… I think we need to get rid of the arguments that the judges only factor in lip syncs, or the opposing argument that the judges take into consideration past performance. I think it’s a case-by-case basis, and they ultimately just decide who they think will be better for tv in the long haul
In my opinion at least, there is one big difference between ATM vs Q and Mhi’ya vs Plasma. Mhi’ya absolutely devoured Plasma. Amanda lightly nibbled Q (and they were both terrible). I appreciate your perspective though
Mhi’ya is probably my least favorite season 16 queen but her track record is iconic lol. 5th out of 7th the first week. 2 bottom 3s, a win, 2 bottom 2s, a high placement, another bottom 2 placement, and another high placement before being eliminated FINALLY
