- "A Certain Smile," Is simply a beautiful song that was published in 1958 for the film bearing the same name on which it was performed by Johnny Mathis. The music was composed by Sammy Fain with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster. The performance was filmed at the 1988 MEC Music Festival in front of a great audience who made me feel at home.
No one can beat, Engelberts music, lyrics, voice absolutely the very best. Love his music, I listen to his music every day.❤

My family loves Engelbert and still does. I am in my early 60s but when I was a child, my mother had a radiogram and in the evening when we were upstairs doing our homework she would be relaxing on the sofa listening to Engelbert, Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan. Beautiful memories ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I learned to sing this song in the 60s when l was in gradeschool...l still sing this now...much more with Engelbert's version!

Oh, so great, I hear he does not want to be called a crooner, but he has it all over the crooners out there. He is like Elvis never heard him sing a bad song, I have listened to him for hours on CZcams. What a wonderful wife he has to get thru a marriage with an entertainer for years, says something for her. I have been there myself, my husband was an entertainer/country music promoter. I had a faithful one even tho I had to endure the adoring fans ,some I kept in touch with over the yrs. who were great people.He died 10 yrs. ago and I thank God I had 44yrs with him. I am sure Englebert is realizing he has a real precious wife and he will make up to her for his indiscretions, hey, if she can more power to her. Who are we to question that? She is the one he came home to, what man will miss the chance when he has it throwed at him? I also adore a man who will wear pink and he looks great in it,I put my hubby in a pink suit and it was fantastic on stage, and the fans loved it. I never got to meet Englebert when I saw his show but I always told my husband he was my second love. He is a great singer and an adoring husband, he has taken care of his family well.

Being a " Happy Face " ~ this song is high up on the long list of my Engelbert Favorites. It saddens me watching Enge singit though ~ at this period of his life, as he had just recently lost his beloved mum, and now twice the sorrow, to see Mikey standing there so healthy and singing so beautifully. Life is short dear friend, take care, I pray for you always, Enge!

I will have to heartily disagree. Johnny Mathis can’t hold a candle to Engelbert even on Engelbert’s worst day. His 3 and a half octave range back in the day, just left all those crooners in the dirt. I heard Engel sing opera with Anna Moffo back on his show in the early 70s. It was awesome. I like Johnny Mathis, but he’s no where near Engel. I’m a musician as well, music teacher and band director and vocalist with bachelor of music degree on alto sax.
