Bling Rock Kingpin brought me straight back to my grandaunt's garden in the mountains in Colombia. It was warm with the sweet smell of the earth and the plants. I was 4 years old and I played all the afternoon with her tortoise. And that was the only time visited that house. ❤

I know this is a TEA video, but I need to give a shout out to the zini spiral gaiwan. I LOVE mine! Had it been the first infusing vessel I ever bought, I would likely never have acquired so many clay pots. It’s gorgeous, just the right size for me, easy to use, easy to rinse out, and makes every tea delicious. Get yours today! 🌱🥃🌱

I just received mine, not cheap but a very nice bit of teaware. I haven't been able to test much with it yet as I have a bit of a trouble with my cha pan so I've been using the connosieur brewer mainly, but it's good to hear it's really good from someone else that owns one and has compared it to others.

I enjoyed listening to you recalling the Christmas road trips to Switzerland. I also find that some teas help bring back long forgotten memories.

So nice to hear about your past memories. I have a confession, my sense of sense is a bit weak compared to yours, so I always thought that the long list of smells you got from enjoying your tea was pretentious... I now realize that your sense of smell has been a way for you to enjoy tea and life, and you just are really good at expressing that. Blessings, and thanks for a lovely video.

While it would be part you were born with it, I think it comes down to focused practice too. I am heavy into a fragrance collection and now I can very easily pick up any fragrance and be able to tell you the various notes in it, I imagine this is what Don is able to do after being so into tea as his job for so long.
I am a bit of a novice when it comes to "true tea" but I enjoy now tasting and smelling the tea along with Don (and Celine, more Celine and crew please!) and I can pick the notes too, not quite as good as he can but when Don mentions something and you hear Celine go "yeah now you mention it" I get that sort of thing too.
Part of it is just your mind making associations along with the suggestion, but all part of the fun and how smell and memory are linked to give you the best enjoyment of the tea.
Btw the best thing I have learned from Don so far, is the reverse breathing and swishing when tasting. Which make a lots of sense given smell and taste are so intertwined, it's so much better to get a real grasp of what you're tasting than the aeration that most other sources will try to teach you. The 90's...what a great time, back before the war...I miss an awful lot about those days, thanks for taking us with you, you never really can go back, but I think smells get you as close as possible

Definitely some ages white pressings have made me feel like i was on retreat in hidden mountain cabin on a cold autumn morning. Aged white reminds me of the strong women in my life who powerful, gentle and graceful.

Every time I drink typical tasting black tea (sweet, lemony notes, honey notes) It reminds skiing as a kid because that was a typical hot drink, black tea with sugar and lemon. 😄

On my most recent session of Atlas Tapestry, I had a flavor flashback of a "soap flavored" gum. It is actually rosewater flavored, but has been iconic and part of their tagline.
It is particularly memorable as it was often in mall candy machines/grocery store checkouts that I'd always see with my grandparents.
"Thrills" is the name of the gum in case anyone is wondering.

Fantastic vid, there is something about good tea that can unlock memory, I've served 2 friends a wee taster, and both were swept back to a past place and time, hope all are well at mei leaf. will have to visit the tea house in London soon,

I love your eloquent descriptions and tasting notes. I can't wait to order some of your teas! I have a cart almost ready. One question about your teaware: is your volume measurement for your gaiwans with it filled up to the top or just under the lid?
Edit: Lol nevermind. You already include that detail in the description!
