Like the Harry Potter series, these movies lose a lot by losing the narrator. This book had one of the best opening lines of any children’s book: “There was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it.”

I don’t know if this has been mentioned, in the book, after Eustace was changed back in his human form he started trying to make amends for his behavior towards the others. Edmund even comforted him saying that he was proud that he was mending his mistake and he mentioned to him how he wants made a horrible mistake of trusting the white witch which is something that he will always have regrets even though he has redeemed himself. That is why he saw the White Witch as his worst fear.

I am kind of sad that you didn't include the scene, where Reepicheep is trying to comfort Eustace, when Eustace is trying to deal with the fact, that he might be a dragon for the rest of his life. In my eyes, its the most powerful scene of the movie. It shows a gentle side of Reepicheep, which we haven't really seen before this point.
Its obvious that Reephicheep rarely has to deal with someone like Eustace - an indivudual who is very vulnerable and helpless, and its really nice to see him trying to come up with a way to cheer up this sad little boy, who is lost and confused in this forreign land. It also serves as a major character development for Eustace, as this is the point where he realizes, that having real friends is something to treasure.
    Still, great reaction as always.

This movie adaptation of the Voyage of the Dawn Treader would have been better in a series format in my opinion, because I feel that the movie felt too condensed and lost much of the book's detail. However, I did enjoy the special effects in this movie version. I thought they did a very good job overall.

So glad you watched these. My grandmother read the 1st to me when I was young. I've read the rest of them since. My cousin loves the books so much that she refuses to watch the movies believing that there's no way that they can do the books justice. I wish she'd change her mind. The filmmaker had great respect for the source material. There are only a few additions here and there. In my opinion, The Princess Bride was the most faithful film adaptation of the book, but after that I would say The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe would be 2nd in that category. It's almost like C. S. Lewis was writing a screenplay. Love your passion. Keep it up.

This movie is so different from the book. Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe was a bit different, but not in any way that was truly important to the story. Prince Caspian was a little more different. This is the one that differs the most I think, and the differences bother me somewhat, but I generally understand why they had to be. Though they are good, I love the books so much more than the movies, and if I had my choice I'd rather read them, or listen to the audiobooks, than watch the movies.

Please enjoy the books, but don't be afraid to dig into the meanings behind them. C.S. Lewis wrote what he wrote on purpose. Prince Caspian was a little improved by screenwriter meddling, but Treader is like the Hobbit Trilogy version of Narnia:
The Dark Islands is one scene in the middle of the book, and two pages long; Eustace is cured of being a dragon before they ever leave the island; there's no central plot OR Evil Mist; Lucy doesn't get a "little sister" to play off of because the actress is getting too old, and we don't get ONE MORE danged temptation of Edmund by the White Witch's Franchise Callback.

Of the films, this was the film least faithful to the book, which is a shame because The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my father's favorite Narnia book. The opening line goes, "There once was a boy called Eustace Clarence Scrubb, and he almost deserved it." The film was also produced by Pre-Disney-owned FOX rather than Disney.
•This was a time when boys could still lie about their age to enlist in the army to fight. There were men who commit sucide over receiving a 4-F.
•The actor playing Eustace is William Poulter, who would go on to star in We're the Millers and the first Maze Runner film.
•So the Pevensie children have been split up; Peter is preparing for exams under the Professor, Susan and their parents are traveling in America, and Edmund and Lucy are sent to Cambridge to stay with their cousin Eustace.
•This time, one year in our world was three years in Narnia.
•In the book, Lord Bern chose to settle down in the Lone Islands while the other six lords continued eastward. Bern had married into the local aristocracy and had a good standing. He rescued Caspian from the slavetraders, recognizing him as the son of Caspian IX and thus his king. He would then help Caspian restore Narnia rule from the corrupt governor and then be created Duke of the Lone Islands, making him the new head of government for the Lone Islands.
•The plot line with the green mist and seven swords is just in the film and not in the book.
•I recently did a study abroad for a semester at the University of St. Andrews; forget roosters, it's seagulls that will wake you up in the morning.
•He's not wrong; there's a reason it's called fight choreography. People familiar with dance can really pick up on sword-fighting.
•Coriakin's Island was the fourth island discovered by Caspian's voyage after leaving the Lone Islands.
•Dark Island was the fifth island discovered and was not as menacing or threatening in the book.
•Dragon Island and Deathwater Island were two separate islands, with Dragon Island being the first island the voyage found after departing the Lone Islands and Deathwater being the third. There was another island with sheep, rabbits, and the ruins of a village, thus giving the island the name Burnt Island.
•So Lord Restimar was the man who jumped into the waters on Deathwater Island and is now a gold statue, while Lord Octesian was the man skeleton Eustace came across. In the book, it was unclear if Lord Octesian was killed by a dragon Eustace saw or if, like Eustace, Lord Octesian was also transformed into said dragon. Either way, the voyage recorded Dragon Island as the final resting place of Lord Octesian.
•Because Eustace chose to lay in a dragon's hoard with "dragon thoughts," Eustace was turned into a dragon.
•Lilliandil is the name given to her in the film, for in the book, she had no name. Her father, Ramandu, is a fallen star, as stars that grow old fall. Every morning, a bird brings him a fire-berry, which strengthened him. He will continue this until the day he is strong enough to return to the skies, with the other stars.
•The feast at Aslan's Table is prepare for all who make the voyage eastward as a reward.
•Lord Rhoop left the other Lords for an island where his dreams would come true. However, he found that the dreams which came true were his worst nightmares. Hence why it is called Dark Island.
•Why Voyage of the Dawn Treader is my father's favorite book in the Narnia series- the Baptism of Eustace. In the book, Aslan calls to Eustace in the night and leads him to a pool. He tells Eustace to undress, but Eustace is unable to remove the dragon scales. Aslan then told Eustace that he had to let Him undress him, then picked Eustace up and dropped him in the pool. When Eustace came out, he was washed and no longer a dragon.
•In the book, to awaken the three Lords asleep at Aslan's Table, they had to sail to the end of the world and then one person had to stay. Reepicheep volunteered after a debate, which include Caspian contemplating abdicating and staying himself. But do not weep, for not all tears are an evil (Not a quote from Narnia, but from a series written by fellow Inkling J.R.R. Tolkien).
•In Narnia, Aslan's Country is the allegory for Heaven.
•Going off how the BBC miniseries from 1988-1990 went, the next book to be adapted to film is The Silver Chair, in which Eustace and his schoolmate Jill Pole are brought to Narnia and sent into the Wild Lands to the north of Narnia in search of Caspian's lost son and heir, Prince Rillian. The Silver Chair has been in production for a while and since Netflix acquired the rights to new film and tv adaptations of Narnia back in 2018, the future of the series is in the air.

Hi you ask about Aslan, he is Jesus in this world. He gave his life for his people in first move when he got betrayed, and the ice qeen killed him on a stone. Then he came back and helpt them. In this move he tells them if you come to my kingdom you never come back. You are free, but like the mouse you need to earn your place. The mouse has right moral and hart to get to heaven.
Now when the kid's are grown they need to find Jesus in our world to understand and help.
Ps im not a believer in God o Jesus but I can see the similarities..

It's worth watching the old BBC production of "the Silver Chair" for the return of Eustace to Narnia.
Get over the atrocious SFX.: It's a made-for-TV production, in 1990.
You might recognize the voice of Warwick Davis as the owl: He was in "Willow", and the lead ewok in "the Return of the Jedi", and Professor Flitwick at Hogwarts and the Goblin banker in Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows.
There are youtube audiobooks of other stories. "The Horse and his Boy" took place during the Pevensie's first stay in Narnia, and they appear in it briefly.
No one will make a movie of it: There's only one battle, a small skirmish. There are no battles in "the Silver Chair" so Hollywood won't touch it.
The comparisons of Aslan with Yeshua Ben Yosef are overblown. Xtian evangelicals tried to claim the movie as their own. Yes, Lewis was a prominent xtian speaker and writer and he made some allusions to it.
But really, aside from being sacrificed and coming back, and one oblique line in Dawn Treader, the connection to the Narnia stories is tenuous at best. Anyway, Aslan also really did exist in the stories and did come back and kicked a$$, unlike the other guy who promised people listening to him that he would return in their lifetimes, and has been absent for 2000 years.

This movie I consider the worst of the three. I think the problem was the source material didn't fit what they were trying to do. A good example is the fight in the Lone Islands. The story of the heroes bluffing their way into control of the situation I very much enjoyed, but it was replaced in the movie by a lousy fight scene, just because the movie needed some action. Eustace is my favorite character in the series and the only reason the movie is worth watching.

Happy to hear you'll read the books. Be cautious though of some sexist and racist factors in the books, the author was a man of his time, but he means well, since the books embody his views and beliefs. And changed his sexist views, or at least toned down, when he met his wife. And note that SPOILER'S fate was a matter of materialism and his/her/their story is not over
