I've always wanted a designated quilting studio but always thought it was just a dream and out of reach. I am SO grateful and humbled by how my channel has quickly grown and continues to grow. Design your space for the future! Plenty of outlets and if your hoping for a long arm plan for it now and allow yourself a designated space for it. Also add plenty of shelving units. Good luck!

Think about this -- who needs electrical outlets down by the floor??? Place all your outlets at 42" around the room. You are going to plug in sewing machines, or Irons,, or lighting or chargers. You don't need to get on your head or move furniture out to reach your outlets. Put them all at an accessible height at 42" which is the height they use in kitchens above the counter.

Might I also suggest a ceiling mount outlet or two as well. Sometimes it’s easier for cords to be out of the way when they hang, think the long arm or even your iron. Have fun. Do space planning, make your work triangle. Don’t be afraid to tape off everything on the floor to show you how the space is going to layout.

Congrats! If I may make a suggestion, when it comes to putting in the electric, put 4 gang outlets at counter top height, even where there are no counters. Keeps from bending over to plug things in. Also many 4 gang outlets like every 4 to 6 feet. I did this in my craft room and have never regretted doing it. I had to fight with my electrician to get my 4 gangs put in but as a crafter/sewer there are never enough outlets in a craft room!! Happy sewing and again congrats!!
Oh yeah, I’m having my dad help with all the electrical and I told him the more outlets the better! Great advice to place them at counter height! I hadn’t thought of that. Thank you!!!💖

I've got the best daddy! And yes, I've definitely been thinking about longarm possibilities. That will be another chunk of change PLUS a big learning curve, so I'll definitely need to research and think about it. But my goodness, that would be fun!

Good for you!!! In January this year I stole the rec area of our basement back and refinished it for my sewing room. I now have a 12 x 35 foot area with alot if Ikea storage 6:10 and love it. You are going to be in heaven when it's done. I'd love to see your progress along the way. Happy building 😊

When we lived in our RV, we had a building like that(12×12 with high loft roof) and we kept a lot of our goodies in, and I had a lot of my sewing crafts in it! Congratulations! You're gonna have a ball with that.❤

Your shed is so exciting. We have Menards in our area of Southeastern Illinois. Think about a split unit for heat and cooling. They are so cool bc one unit heats and cools with 1 cost. It would be great for the area you have there. I'm so excited for you! BTW...your method of using Elmer's Glue Basting gas been the most incredible game changer if my domestic machine quilting !! Love it!!

Seems like we are all thrilled for you Miriam. I certainly am. A dedicated space just for you is one of the best things ever. Sewing has got me through many difficult times and now in my late 70s I thank the Lord I learned to sew at an early age. You will have so much fun creating this space at such an early age! Take the advice of those ladies who suggest higher electricity outlets. You can never have enough drawers, things don’t get sunbleached or dusty. Work is easier in a tidy space. Irene at Sugaridoo built sliding double design walls in front of shelves. Great space usage because they act as doors but still full access to shelves. Oh, and she (and her dad) built a work island with all customised storage (from Ikea components maybe?). You may be interested to have a squiz. Happy building!

So happy you have your she shed. That is so wonderful. If you are just getting a air conditioner you put in a window, if getting a nice big one have your dad put a 220 line in it saves money on your electric. We have a big one because we have one big open living dining, kitchen area and it keeps it cool.You do such a good job doing all from your bedroom. A pale yellow is a nice happy cheery color. Put electrical outlets on your ceiling too because it’s nice to have your cords out of your way and you can use all the floor space and don’t have to be by the walls to plug in your electronics. Have fun making your space your own! Congratulations!!!

I am so excited about this series of videos. I have been trying to come up with something that would work for my needs and I think I’ve just found it by watching your channel. This is such a great alternative when your house doesn’t have the space for a sewing studio.
I am disabled and in a wheelchair (and I have to lay down very often), this would allow me to recline my electric wheelchair with plenty of room to do so. Of course, I would have to enlist the “help” of my family with the construction.
I have been walking in my calling as a worship pastor for most of my adult life but, that changed after a complete abdominal wall hernia formed. Since then, I have felt a loss of purpose. Guess what, Heavenly Father has given me a new purpose through your channel and others like yours. I am so thankful for this. I really enjoy the generosity associated with (and my newfound love of) quilting. He is truly always guiding His children.
One question, did you have a concrete pad poured under your building? If not, how did you do the foundation?
I want you to know that God uses you to bless many. May God bless you and your household tenfold. 😊
Thank you so much for sharing your story! God brings the right people and situations into our lives at the right time! So glad quilting has been that for you. So for the foundation, we actually didn’t lay any. We placed it on a “pretty” level spot in the yard and then put some treated lumber under shed to protect the underside. You can definitely do a foundation, but we didn’t need one.
I will say, if you plan to purchase a shed from one of these companies that sell them from a lot, they will usually level it for you and put it on blocks if you want them to. It’s definitely something to research and figure out what would work best for you! 💖 thank you so much for watching!

I have a she shed for my channel too! Mine came with the property. The first thing I had to do was to secure the crawl space (which is not a crawl space). All sorts of critters started living and nesting under there, including skunks! Have fun!

Hello from San Diego California, so happy for getting the space you so richly deserved and worked so hard for. My iron is the same nemesis in my room since adding the stationary quilting machine. I have a lovely u shape work space until I need to press, lol. Darn pressing fabric is messing my flow. So now I set it up I. The hall/guess bathroom. Note: that space is 11’x12’, same size as my sewing space, so nope problem there and it gets me up and moving every few minutes. If I had my way I’d kick hubs and I out of our master bedroom and that 11’ x 17’ with all day light would be my art studio/ quilting room. Cause you know most of us have multiple hobbies we like to do and stock up for! However, that isn’t happening so we do what we must. Congrats on moving forward to a wonderful new studio. Look forward to your progress reports!

When looking at flooring don't use peel and stick tiles in a building that is subject to temperature changes. Try going to a flooring store to see if they have off cuts that are the size you require. Do record and post your build, this is such a blessing. You can have an actual design wall. Storage! BTW consider sun coming in your windows and how you will store fabric . I didn't and ended up with fabric with sun damage, it even got my fabric knitting bag!

It’s fun to have it out on display, but not so fun when it gets faded or super dusty! (I live on a gravel road and it’s crazy how dusty it gets here when it doesn’t rain 😂)
